I'm a beginner at crocheting and because all I did was watch 2 crocheting tutorials I thought I had it all down, so I just thought you tie it at the end and snip it but no, this is the best tutorial I have ever seen TYSM!!!! 😭😭😭
A trick I learned a few years ago. If you're worried about your ends showing through on the other side, place your needle where you want it to go but before pulling the needle through, have a look on the other side, if you can see the shiny needle, you're going to be able to see the thread/yarn you're securing
that laugh at the end is the laugh of a woman who knows if we are watching this video we are not having fun weaving in our ends 😫😫 but thank you SO much for all your videos!! you are so helpful and cheery and make learning to crochet very enjoyable 😇
I have been crocheting for a few years now and watched dozens of youtube instruction videos. I watched a couple of your videos today and yours are the clearest I have ever seen! ! The instructions could not be clearer, The videos are also well filmed and go at the right place. Thank you.
I thought I was over securing my loose ends! Thanks for easing my mind that you do the same thing 😊
Thank you so much for the advice! I’ve only been weaving my ends in a little bit and now I’m realising my pieces will fall apart over time if I’m not doing it properly. Thank you so much 🙏🏼
This is exactly what I needed! I've been struggling with my tails to the point of not wanting to change colors but now I think I can have some fun. Thanks so much! I love this channel!!
This saved me a lot of projects, I'm making crochet granny hearts for valentines day but my first 3 unravel because I didn't now how to weave in the ends! Thank you!
Great tips for all those loose ends. I can also attest to the fact of don’t leave till the end, for its a humdinger of a tast.
Thanks. I had no idea it was best to weave back and forth and for quite such a long way. I will use your advice.
Thank you. I knew from knitting that you have to weave in your ends but was a bit at a loss on how to properly do it on multi-colored granny squares. Your video helped.
Thank you for your tutorial! Im new and excited to learn color changes today too, but i can tell from the comments im going to have to accept weaving in ends as a consequence of a process i love.
You're welcome!😀 I did make a newer video about weaving in ends here: czcams.com/video/GMjstBdp_2E/video.htmlsi=xGyhcXqxACwnDkpp
Thank you very much, this has made grannies much more enjoyable for me.
I always check your tutorials, to make sure that I am doing things correctly. And, I do it, just like you did! 😇
So true about magic circle. I had one blanket that I had to repair. Great video
this video was extremely helpful !! im not a beginner at all but never took the time to look into sewing the ends in 😭
Perfect another great tutorial. I have a stack of 8 granny squares that are ready to have the ends weaved in this is awesome.
Thank you! I'm new to crocheting and I'm working on a throw blanket for my mom. I want to do things right and keep the tails from coming out in the wash, so I appreciate the guidance. :)
In all of my years of crocheting I had heard about weaving ends, but I hadn't really seen it until now, it's helpful that's for sure. Thank you for the video!
You read my mind. Just what I was going to ask your advise about... Thanks. Always good to see what others do...💐
I love seeing peoples methods too! Sometimes I crochet over the ends if working in rows before (also I often crochet in the ends - I'll have to do a video on that one as it's really hard to describe 😂)
@@HookedbyRobin yes. I seem to change even thru a blanket. I hope to standardise it as sometimes it seems lumpy in places. You helped me with join as you go so thanks for that too. Joining grannies today but have a coffee just now... Best wishes E
Excellent! Good description and photography.
Thank you, a very useful video. I’ve made a tiny granny square blanket for my dolls house using a 1.25mm crochet hook. I followed your video for shell edging. It looks very pretty from the front, but a bit of a nest on the back with around 90 ends to tidy up!
Thank you it very easy to do the way you do it God bless you and your family
Thank you so much for this tutorial, Robin! I'm new to crocheting and I can already tell my first granny square blanket will unravel :D :D :D Oh well! ... I had fun making it :)
Mine unravelled after about 6 months so I think you'll get some use out of it! 😅 I wish someone had told me about ends before I made it! I merrily snipped my ends without a care in the world LMAO Mistakes are how we learn so it's all good in the end! 😂
@@HookedbyRobin I totally can relateWhen i made my second granny square afgan I did for my daughter in Sept, it has come undone... those tails I thought were secure! She told me she loves to snuggle under it and pull it tight from her toes to around my neck !! LOL your video is a life safer
Omg, this was just the video I needed! Thank you for your amazing tutorials!
Thank you for this tutorial on how to weave in the tails. Thank goodness I hvn't made too many coasters/ granny squares yet. Success. Best rgds, Florence. Indonesia
You just confirmed how great I am 😂😂😂😂 I wanted to learn how to weave in granny square ends even tho I’m pretty ok at it and watching this all the way thru I do everything you do! So that made me confident my projects will hold 😭❤️❤️🙏 thank you 🤣
Thanks Robin, I always wondered why long tails, I always thought that it's a waste 🤦 as you can tell I'm a total novice. I've only just completed my first shawl and scarf. I did weave the ends in but didn't think to come back to reinforce the stitch and avoid it coming apart after a few washes as you said, so this is a very informative video, thanks for sharing 💐
I learnt the hard way unfortunately! haha! I am a bit excessive with my tails these days but once bitten, twice shy! 😆
Thank you for this tutorial. I haven't been weaving in a long enough tail!!
Don't worry, you might have been weaving in plenty of tail - I'm just paranoid and so my tails are waaaaaay longer than average 😅
Thank you so much! I spent so long trying to find a video that I could follow along with while trying to learn. You were so helpful.
Great instructions, thanks!
Thanks a lot for sharing those videos.
You are one of the best when it comes to those important techniques!
Happy weekend..💕💕💕
"You'll die a little bit inside "
😭😭😭😭 everytime I do a granny square and see the other side, well said 👏👏
I sew in my ends the same way as you do. I watched this video in the hope you were going to show me a miraculous faster way of securing ends! At least I know I have been doing the right thing -however tedious!
Thanks so much for making this video! I had just finished making ALL
of my granny squares for my 1st ever crochet project and then realized I was going to have to weave the ends in. I just wanted to be done with it 😂🥴! Found your video and it’s helped speed me up so much! Thanks for the “pep talk” 🙌😂💗
Hi as I weave in my tails I put in a little knot in between and then weave some more before I cut the thread
Thank you so much for this tutorial....I just finished three blankets for my grandchildren and gave it a special wash just to discover several tails pulled out and big holes in the blanket.....I was crushed....guess I’ve learned. Now on to how to repair the holes!!!
loved this, thank you so much!
Excellent! Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you for the smile😃.
Thank you for this Robin I do my ends this way usually at the end of the square though , it's quite relaxing to watch you do it , not so relaxing to do it lol 😊Amanda xx
Ends give me rage 😂😂😂 I am guilty of leaving the ends until the end too (I never learn LOL)
This was just what I needed! I just finished my first granny square throw and was horrified to see a lot of the squares unraveling. I definitely did NOT leave enough of an end to weave it. I'm wiser-thanks to you-and ready to start my next project without it becoming my next problem. 😏
Thank you. I'm finishing up a square Granny square baby blanket.
Thank you so much Robin for your Brilliant advice. I wasn't sure whether I was doing it Right until I watched this video helped me Alot. Many thanks to you for All your Wonderful Tutorials 👍💯🔥💛
I am so glad the video helped Ethel, it sounds like you are doing great with crochet.😃🧶
@@HookedbyRobin Yes Robin, I am very happy that I've learnt a lot from you. Thank you once again 😍
Can I just say, ugh ! I would love to have some one else to do this. Hehehe I make a big stash of items and then I go back to weave in all the ends. I'm just not very self disciplined. Thanks for the help. I try to crochet over them sometimes.
I crochet over them too sometimes - I'm super lazy and ALWAYS put off ends until they have built up to a soul destroying mountain (I never learn 😂)
Oh my gosh such a great video
I so wish I had watched this video earlier. I always weave my ends in, but not as carefully as you do. My ends are woven in about 1 1/2", but not going back and forth. I hope they do not come out in the wash. I use laundry bags and if I give a blanket away I include a laundry bag, and washing instructions.
Cool tips
Thank you so much!
Hello Robin, I do this the same way you do. It’s interesting because today I posted a question on IG, and many people almost 100% identified they do not sew as they go they wait until the very end of their project. This might make sense when you’re making a continuous blanket and you might have to take it apart if you noticed a mistake. But I agree that with granny squares - finish them as you make them or you will have a big other project at the end of having to join them!
I want to update my comment! I posted my comment after day one of my poll on IG, and after day 2 the results were totally different! It seems the respondents were actually split 50/50! So there you have it!
Thank you. I do mine the same way. But I do mine right away.👍
Oops. I didn't know weaving in the ends was even a thing. I just finished my first granny square blanket and I just snipped off all the ends 😱 now I'm filled with dread. At least I know now!
I used to do that and then my projects fell apart so here I am learning how to weave on ends
I've only been leaving a 1 inch tail and crocheted over it when I've been joining. I'm new to crochet and no one ever gives information on how to weave the ends in so I've just been doing it how I cover the tails when I cross stitch
No one gave me this information when I first started either! 😫 I feel your pain! X
Something else I like to do, as insurance, is when I add a color in the corner (ch2 sp) I like to crochet over the last tail a bit. I still weave my ends in really well, but it helps tack that last tail down and push it aside while I'm working the current round. Just a little something I found useful 😊
Oooo! I like the idea of securing the ends through several sets of stitches. I normally just go through one set and it ends up falling out.
@@HookedbyRobin I got one of my granny squares done and although it took about twice as long as normal, I feel it will be worth it! 💕
I Just started a striped pullover and there's SO many to weave in! Is there anyone else who had no idea how to do this? No just me? Mkkk... Noted. Tysm for the vid it really helped!
@@HookedbyRobin keep posting! Don't listen to those haters (saw a comment the other day) You're awesome and help so many people become better crocheters.
Thank you!🥰 At the moment I’m posting new videos on CZcams every two weeks.
@@HookedbyRobin Thats great! I love following your tutorials as a beginner bc you're such a good teacher! Im glad to hear that you're going to be posting more videos ☺😁
i am making my first blanket and have found your tutorials very helpful 😊. How long do you leave your tails?
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I made the mistake of crocheting a whole bag of granny squares, and not weaving in the ends🥲
This will help too: czcams.com/video/GMjstBdp_2E/video.htmlsi=RtuOaz4Fq5yvIEQi
i really needed this planing on making a blanket but ive only really made plushies before this.
Thankyou 😄
🤣🤣🤣 "Because you'll die a little bit inside"... So very true!! Thank you for saying it out loud! lol
Beautiful work! just one question: I only have two colors, how can I do to have few threads to sew? Thanks
There is a thing called a double magic circle. There is a YT on it somewhere. That's all I do now, and still weave the tail well. It's a tiny bit fiddly to close, but it gets to be 2nd nature, and worth the troubke.
The double magic circle is what I use for my own blankets! It's a pain and a fiddly but totally worth it I agree! I've never had a double come undone x
I have plans to make a granny square blanket and I accidentally cut the ends way to short. 😅 Thankfully this one is just a test one with some excess yarn
After watching this i might be able to finish off blanket i made thats 2 different blue colors. That is done but all ends are still on it
Do you not do a single between the clusters of a granny square? also, does that make the hole smaller?
Hi there! Can you crochet with your ends with this type of project? I mean, will it hold after several washes?
Where do you weave in your second green tail? The one you started the round with. In the same corner?
I always do it it like that, but I find it quite bulky, especially when you use it in clothing
Im making my first blanket and 80% of the way through it i have realised that i have left all my ends way too short. So now ive made an extra step for myself of attaching more yarn to the ends so that i can sew them in 🤦♀️
Luckily i found a way to weave them in using a very very thing crochet hook which workes well except it has a tendency to pull other strands🫣 but it works well so i cant complain!
If ends pop out some after weaving and using the blanket, do you just snip the end again or try to weave it back in?
Hi there! I know I’m very late on posting on this video, but is there a reason you don’t weave in the magic circle in different directions like the other ends?
Pretty please share the brand and colors of this yarn!! 💜
Hi! Love your videos! I have a question as a newbie: Should you weave in your ends before or after you block? Thank you! 💖
Before!! That way, they're securely woven in so if any ends pop out when you're blocking, you know you can just snip them off 😀👍
Amazing! Thank you so much for your reply! I’m so excited to finish the unicorn blanket cal for my niece! 😍Your videos have been so useful to help me learn to read patterns. Thank you so much! 😘💖
Hi Robin ~ I'm working with a wool, cashmere, silk blend yarn. One color. When coming to the end of the ball I just started the new ball and left long ends. They are scattered throughout the blanket, not at the ends. I am a beginner so I didn't realize I should have used a Russian join as I was crocheting. My question is: since my yarn is slightly silky, should I make a knot with the two ends before I weave them in?
I am asking you because you are the best at explaining the different techniques.
Thank you.
I would definitely give them a quick knot yes - better safe than sorry! A wool cashmere silk blend sounds absolutely heavenly! 😍
@@HookedbyRobin
Thank you so much Robin!😊
I am crocheting a baby blanket for my grandson due in June. It is white with a small ruffle edge that I will run a baby blue ribbon through.
Your tutorials are so well made and I appreciate all your details!
Thank you again!
My squares are very small and there is no space to weave in the tails over many stitches. I want to ask if the first step is enough to weave in the tails.
I’ve been doing a project that consists of 43 daisy squares. I’m about 18 squares in and haven’t been tidying my ends as I’m going along. This has spurred me to stop and do all my ends before making any more squares 😂 pray for me
Hi Robin! Thanks for your tutorials they're so well explained so I'm finding them so useful to learn from. I'm wondering - why does no one tie knots in crochet? Would that not be an easier way to make sure everything is secure and pieces won't start unravelling?
One of the reasons as to why no knots in crocheting, is that they can hurt when snuggling with a blanket full of knots. Especially for babies, and little ones. I once had a blanket where knots were used. I only used it twice before getting rid of it.
Fellow crocheters I need help - my first project two years ago was a granny square skirt, but sadly I didn’t know how to weave in ends so I just tied a knot and cut (terrible I know). Is there anything I can do to save my skirt? 😭
Weaving in ends is my LEAST favorite thing in the whole process. But I do it and the same way u do. I make hats to send to my moms nursing home and a couple other places. Not too long ago ended up weaving in ends for 15 hats all at same time cuz I had put it off. Silly me!! Now I always do it as I go. Thank u for sharing
I really do try to be disciplined with my ends but ughhhhhhhhhhhhh I ALWAYS end up leaving them till the end then questioning my life choices 😂😂😂
@@HookedbyRobin I totally understand, lol
@@HookedbyRobin Guilty as charged! 😂😂 I think we all get so involved with our projects that maybe we think we can wish the ends weave themselves magically ✨ ~sigh~ Nothing to do ladies, but sit down and work on those ends 😩😆😄 thanks for for sharing your video 🙏🏼
Give them to me. I’ll do it for you. I think it’s fun.
I like to weave my ends as I crochet the next row by doubling the end with my new yarn or by tapping the end under my new stitches as I go so that I do not have another step to come back and hide them.
