A white heron in the UK is likely to be a Little or Great White Egret. Occasionally Cattle Egrets turn up, and some even stay to breed. How can you pick one of these wanderers out?
These birds are common here, they live in rice fields, open wide grassy lands and near the lakes. I've seen them hanging around cows and in the late afternoon they fly in flocks and find another place to stay in. I can also see some ducks, adhingas, herons and terns here, these cool birds live together.
Thank you for all this information! I just spotted one of these in the Florida panhandle, not uncommon but I didn't realize they had color to them. It perched in a tree over a shallow for about 5 minutes. It's such a beautiful bird!
+twitcherspotter For almost all of the year, with the exception of a couple of weeks when breeding Great White Egret bill is YELLOW. The only one with a consistent black beak is Little Egret. We do cover bill colour in the Little/Great White Egret video
Living free and peace like egret.......nice vidio......
Thank you for posting. Great photo references for artists. We have lots of these birds in Florida, but they rarely stand still long enough to sketch.

Excellent, I took a few photos of these birds while in Jamaica (black river). I wanted to know more about them. Thanks

Well established in Australia with large nesting colonies a hit with bird watchers
Is there a way to distinguish a Bubulcus ibis and a Bubulcus coromandus?
Me laughing at the UK cause they have rarer Cattle Egrets and in our country have many:
Why is that cow tied by its neck to its leg?

Cool Egret, check out my footage of the Little Egret
