What happened is that their manager told them to enter the oven after only having it off for two hours instead of twelve. What’s worse is that if their boss had checked any of the data on the nearby panel at any point then he would’ve been able to see how hot the core still was. All he did to see if it had cooled down enough for his workers to go inside was look inside and wave his hand in there for a minute.
I remember hearing Ouchis story before. The way I heard it was more horrifying. But when he got hit with the radiation, and it melted his chromosomes. It basically destroyed the blueprints for his cells. So his body wasn't producing replacements for any cells at all. That's why he needed skin grafts and transfusions but they'd only help for so long. His body was rotting while he was still alive and it couldn't hold itself together anymore. He was quite literally falling to pieces.

No way of reversing the belt? Well, if there was a switch for the motor and a quick thinking electrician, swapping two wires would've done the trick. Assuming it was an electric motor driving the belt. Sadly most bakers aren't electricians with screwdrivers :( what a terrible way to go...
Then I'm going with you because all I could think about was the irony of his last name..... But those doctor's who treated him should have been brought up on charges of cruelty....

That's also not true about the Doctors. They tried everything they could to help Ouchi. Upon realizing that his DNA was so damaged that he had lost the blue print to create new cells, they told the family repeatedly that it was hopeless and to sign DNR papers. It was the family that kept him alive for so long. They couldn't accept his fate and the Drs were bound by the law.

This is a very common misconception. The doctors were legally obligated to resuscitate by the family. They simply used the unfortunate circumstance that they were put in to study his deterioration. If anything, they tried making his suffering not be in vain because what they learned could help people in the future
@@richcast66 never mind the fact they genuinely wanted him to recover. With radiation poisoning you literally can just treat the symptoms and wait for them to pull through. Those doctors gave everything they had to see him pull through. I hate how they are now demonized
That poor soul suffered so much, but the doctors wouldnt let him die to escape the pain of litterally falling apart alive. He begged to be let go, but the doctors wouldnt have another chance to examine the effects of extreme radiation on the body. Ultimately his final wishes before he was unable to communicate was to continue with the treatment for the sake of his family. Because of this, his families wishes, and the fact that his body showed multiple instances of trying to repair itself late into treatment after the severity of the damage inflicted, the doctors continued, despite the morality of keeping him alive and discussions of whether they should pull the plug or not. They only stopped after they went to the family got their blessings to not resuscitate him the next time his heart stopped.
