"We got away from Dantonio's culture with Tucker" - Yep I remember Tucker distinctly saying "you're going to see a new culture here" when he came in. And honestly that offended me because it seemed like a slight on Dantonio as if the program was a losing program, and MSU had a winning culture that really should not have been changed.
100% Agree, not to mix words here but even Dantonio got away from that culture when he hired Curtis Blackwell and allowed him to bring in players of questionable character like Austin Robertson and Donnie Corley, that class and Dantonio not changing his co-ordinators along with him bailing in the night after changes to the recruiting cycle by the NCAA have led this program to a decade of mediocrity. Time to get back to the "right culture" as you mentioned, time to get back to brass tacks.
@@Satchmojones yes sir. Dantonio became a failure due to his own success. His 2016 class was the best class in a long time and that was filled with bad characters. A lot left and you see up to 2020 how one bad class can kill your momentum.
Always enjoy Comps podcast, but it seems like he asked about some guys right after Killop and Dorsey had just talked about them? Like it was the first time the recruit had been mentioned in the conversation. It was just a little odd I thought.
Just think of how poorly Tucker recruited that Smith needs to add even more to this class. We're definitely going to grab some players that are a gamble just to get more bodies.
I don't know how many open scholarship players are currently on the roster. It would be nice to know that number in order to have a better idea of how many scholarships are still available. I have a feeling that there won't be many MSU players hitting the portal next time that it's open, and think that Smith fills the remaining scholarships with a combination of high school recruits and players from the portal.. It's crazy all that is involved in building a winning program. Tucker obviously didn't have what it takes, but I think that Smith does and will turn MSU into a winning program that can contend for a Big Ten championship and playoff berth on occasion in the future.
