      Tongue showing or licking is a sign of stress, anxiety or submissiveness. It is saying "I mean no harm, so let me alone". This is well known for dogs, but cats share large parts of their body language. Universal carnivore signaling, kind of.

That is just a neutral mode for the cat, it likely doesn't know the person who got bit well enough to want to be pet by them, but the girl is the owner of the cat, and the problem wasn't that the cat didn't want attention, but that it didn't want to be touched by a stranger.

      i get it and i agree. however, i think we humans might have this really strong urge to pet animals that is sometimes hard to overcome😢😢i just personally see my dog sleeping nearby all peaceful and soft and innocent and im just dyiiiiiiiing to hold him and kiss him 😪of course his sleeping and its disrespectful as hell to bother him but i may have done it like once or twice tbh🥺

      The owner apparently knows the cat enough to pet him after the warning bite. Cats are frisky sometimes and they like to play hard-to-get when they actually would like affection. It’s like how cats will alternately bathe and bite each other when they’re lovin’

      But what is a serval, exactly? Is it just a unique, but still regular cat, or is it a wild animal that's been tamed/domesticated? Because they kinda look like a leopard, but not quite as big, though. And the ears are different, too.

My aunt has an F1 Savannah (Serval x housecat) x Serval crossbreed and even at just 75% Serval that thing is a horrifying piece of nature, it's hunting raccons like they're froot loops.

    My wife and I have a ragdoll cat, very similar personality. Intelligent and independent, willing to give affection but really needs to be on their terms. Majestic gorgeous Serval!

      A bite of a large dog breed is more damaging. The body language of a serval is just more impressive, but partially a bluff. This is how they survive among lions and hyenas.

      I had a serval living with me for a few years. That was a warning bite. He was more annoyed than anything. If the cat felt threatened, he'd have ran. And believe me, servals are very good jumpers, they're VERY hard to get into a corner.

    Don’t know how many warnings that person wanted but when the ears go back and you get that first hiss and teeth bared, you back well off and leave the cat alone. Didn’t even take heed when the second hiss and teeth were shown, insisted on putting hands on the cat and quite rightly got bitten. Some people are just stupid around animals. Beautiful cat.

    Serval cats actually hiss quite often as a form of communication and rarely have hostile intentions.
    If their ears are folded back though, LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE IT DOESNT WANT TO BE TOUCHED 😡

      It isn't bullying to tolerate a pat on the head. Dogs are simply wired differently as group animals. Cats are solitary animals. They act like they're alone on the planet, so the moment something bothers them, they bite. Doesn't matter how close they are to the person they're hurting.
      Cats have been known to eat their owners within three hours of death. There's been cases where they ate their owners who were still alive and sometimes even survived as they were simply comatose.       yes earning trust takes days, even more for feral n scared cats. it took me 2 weeks to earn the trust of a scared cat who was always on guard.

    It was good the person let the kitty sniff them, ears back and hissing and growling is a sign to go sit on the other side of the room and wait for the cat to become used to you and see you as less of a threat. Giving the cat treats helps too 👍😂
    The little nip was just "I don't trust you I am capable of defending myself"

    Hissing aside, they are clearly show body language that they don't want to engage. Signs upon signs upon signs saying "don't come closer please!" Very sweet baby who just wants their space.
    Glad it didn't end worse, but I wish people would respect animals' boundaries more. Better to introduce him by having him sit across the room or at least out of arm's reach and let the cat decide what to do from there.

    If the serval was serious about it, you would need to count your fingers after the encounter. A feral (domestic) kitten no more than a few weeks old left me with several deep puncture wounds to the hand after just seconds.

    My friend had a savanah.. the cat was extremely aggressive. Loud growling and I whining whenever it smelt us eating chicken or cooked meat.
    They aren’t cuddly like regular cats, they bite sometimes and draw blood! The are basically wild! Not a good pet in my opinion but everyone’s different!
