Oil Change Twice in 1 Day | What And Why

- In this video i changed the oil in my car twice in 1 day. I was curious as to what the color would look like after the first oil change, but it turns out the color was not the only interesting thing, it was actually the viscosity. Sure it may have been a waste of $30, but it was a cool experiment for me. Hope you learn something.

If twice a day is good, then thrice a day will be super.
I think you meant oil filter not fuel filter gets harmed when we don't change oil... great video thank you
0:24 - KIA: "You're going to have to remove 18 bolts to remove the splash shield before you can get access to the oil filter and drain plug". Mazda: "Hold my beer".
Hahahahah!!!! Exactly!!!
super video...thanx......i think ill do that on my car
Great video
Thanks for watching. Pretty cool to see the viscosity race.
I would use the Sams club or walmart oil to waste since its cheaper and then use the good oil
Agree
nowadays its like $5 from the cheapest shit to mobil one
I always do double oil changes(the 2nd one after a day's driving). It's like hair shampoo's directions... wash, rinse, repeat. Oil is cheap. Engine repair is not cheap. New engine is $$$$$. :)
excellent point! doing the second oil change a day later is probably very good! What oil do you use?
Do you get two other oil filters for this double oil change? Or can you use the same brand new oil filter used in the 1st change for the 2nd oil change?
@@filopride619 same. :)
@@S_Paoli Thank you! Gonna try this out instead of using those "engine flush" additives. It makes sense to have a deeper clean doing this method every once in a while.
@@filopride619 I have always been skeptical of engine flush products, even the ones from reputable companies like Liqui Moly. Like I said, I believe engine oil is cheap and replacement engine is, well, not so cheap. :) I recently had my 22-year-old Lexus engine opened up to replace a valve gasket. The tech showed me the inside and he was impressed at how clean it was. (some Lexus V6 engines have the notorious engine sludge issue, which is why I started changing the oil religiously many years ago)
the color change of the 2nd oil is simply oxidation from the heat man, dark color doesn't imply dirt oil on its own. cool to see it tested though!
It doesn’t get oxidized in 5miles. New Oil can stay clear in a petrol engine from personal experience for hundreds if not thousands of kms.
@@MarcoElkesit LOOKS clear on the dipstick but the oil itself is in fact DARK.
Go look up project farm testing oil. He heats it up on a grill and the oil gets dark within MINUTES. 😆😂🤣
You literally don’t know what you’re talking about. 🤦🏻♂️
@alb3978 - I was gonna say the same thing. Oil darkens within minutes of exposure to high heat. 😆😂🤣
@@I_know_what_im_talking_about the oil doesn’t go dark within minutes and if the oil is clear when whipped off the dip stick then it’s clear. You clearly have no idea what your talking about buddy, I have years of personal experience. I’ve drained oil from cars 5000km later and the oil was just a bit dark. I agree dark oil doesn’t mean it’s bad but unless it’s a diesel it won’t immediately turn black.
I like the idea of a back to back change. Not necessarily every time, but maybe every 30k or 60k. You could do it in conjunction with a flush to further remove the flush. I used liqui-moly flush on a 25 year old truck and it made a world of difference. I've also flushed two other vehicles when they hit the 100k mark. All have worked out great.
Nice! im scared to do the flush with chemicals. I feel like its going to leak out and mess up my seals. That's cool that you've done it with older vehicles. i have on 05 dakota that probably needs it, im scared though, lol.
All good my man don’t be scared. The additives in the flush are all compatible with all the seals and rubbers and internals of your pride and joy.
Been doin it for years with great results
No you really shouldn't
@666dynomax I did it on 2 vehicles over 100k and over a year ago and they are running great. Especially the 99 F150 that was in storage for 9 years before I got it.
Great video, just did the same thing prefer this than using an engine flush liquid. Makes more sense.
thx. yea i want to try an engine flush too, but i'm afraid it will do more harm than good.
@@ForeMoney Dont, just get cheap oil, change it and then change wih oil of choice in few days. Oil has detergents in it made to disolve the deposits and keep it suspended in oil ... the flushes are basically solvents and screw the oil HTHS and viscosity. Can get real bad for some engines if used.
@@torentmonkey Flushed with Mystery Marvel opened up my rings stoped burning oil.
Dude with high quality oil, amsoil, penzoil ultra platinum, etc, this is a waste of money..
People have gotten over a million miles on quality engines just regularly flushing out..
Just do it when you have time and wait until it stops dripping..
yes i agree it may be a waste of oil and time, but it was an experiment i was curious to try. I always use mobil 1 high mileage. It says 15K miles, but i do it every 8 or 9K or so always drips out pretty smooth. what oil do you use?
@@ForeMoney penzoil ultra platnum, or penzoil platnum high milage for my truck. I drive mazda 3 as well.
I look for it on sale at canadian tire and walmart and keep a stock of a few jugs so I normally pay very low price..
That's high km drain interval you use... I am 37. In my experience you dont want any issues with motor, tranny, differential, cv axles, or frame...
You flushing out twice. I am surprised you wait that long..
Do this.
1. Change your engine oil and filter more frequently. Around 3,000 miles - not 6,000 miles.
2. Every third oil change purchase an extra cheapo oil filter - drain the oil and install the cheapo oil filter.
Fill with two qts of engine oil and let it idle for about five minutes.
3. Drain oil and change to a good new oil filter like the Wix XP oil filter - and fill the oil to the correct level.
You have flushed your engine of any older oil residue and the new oil is now in better condition to protect your engine.
Never use crankcase flush chemicals. Flush with HD30 engine oil and cheap oil filters until the oil comes out clean - not black.
FYI - I drive a 20 something yr old Suburban with 200K miles - it runs like new and doesn't smoke or burn engine oil.
Engine oil and oil filter gets changed at 3K or sooner depending on oil color and condition.
Valvoline Full Synthetic 10w-30 with Wix XP filters.
I went to the Wix catalog and found a filter off of another GM vehicle with the same threads and gasket size but 2.5 inches longer to have more filter area.
I have also performed the LS engine oil filter bypass mod so that all of the oil at all times goes thru the engine oil filter.
Good stuff!!! Thanks
I only drive my car 2,000 miles a year. Every 1,000 or 6 months I used my pump to remove 5 qts then I put 5 qts back in. Only on the 4th time or 2 year mark I changed the oil and filter. The oil always stayed clean.
Wow. thats an interesting approach. How was the filter after 2 years?
1:50 into your fuel filter. If you oil and fuel are mixing in you got issues
Oil change gets black because you block is coated with carbon. It takes 3 oil changes with 30 minute running intervals to get the carbon completely out. Gets worse as milage increases due to ring wear.
Your test was insufficient for proper testing. Thats why the new oil was black very quickly. It needs to be flushed 3 times for the cleaning to be affective.
2000 model Toyota Corolla - Oil change every 4000 miles or 3 months since new (full synth) 378,000 miles now and drives like new - compression test 9psi below factory.
What do you think this proves people?
Looking forward to all reply’s :)
Sam
Much respect.... I wish more people took care of their vehicles like you do.
I change my oil every 6 months (November & May) but drive less than 5,000 kms between each oil change.
it just prove that toyota make good engines
@@docesam dumbie proof! lol seriously though love toyota engines
On modern engines 10-20% of old oil will remain in the engine and get mixed with new oil. Varnish, gum, sludge and carbon is caused by that 10-20% that stays in the engine, for another oil change interval. The new oil is depleted/diluted and its ability to clean the engine is reduced by the old oil. I have done lab tests on new, used, and combined new/old oil. It does have an effect. I use rinse oil at every change. I keep the rinse oil and use it 2-3 times, before discarding. There are industry articles on benefits of double oil changes. Mine has 189k miles and the engine looks brand new. I do 10k mile drain intervals as well.
Not 10 to 20% of oil lift over in engine after oil change - depending on the engine and vehicle it will typically be about 3 oz max.
If the vehicle is equipped with an engine oil cooler there is a lot of oil left in the oil cooler and lines.
Flushing a vehicle with an engine oil cooler with fresh oil and filter- then changing it again a few milutes later - will really keep the new oil cleaner and help the engine last much longer.
@PapawCulberson there oil in the pump, large oil galleries, smaller feed galleries, sitting on top of the engine, inside VVT system with its own oil galleries, hydraulic lifters galleries. This oil will not drain even if let drain for days. 3oz will drain out from just oil clinging to surfaces. I have done oil analysis, examined oil galleries on 4 cylinder VVT, engine. Measured 15% retention. If you have turbo, oil cooler, etc, even more. I rebuilt my first engine in 1984.
If you did a third change, then you'd now if the new dirty oil was from the residue dirty oil, or just the engine running. Would It be clean after a third oil change?
That's what I do and every month I take a little sample and see that the oil is still golden untll many miles later and time for an oil change.
Great idea
I thought old oil should be less viscous?? In fact contamination makes the oil less viscous for sure
Right! Contamination makes the oil more sludge like. New oil is much smoother! =)
Nice video. I'm planning on doing this to my 05 f250. I was gonna use cheap walmart oil +filter and then do a more high end oil. Do you think it matters if I use the cheap oil to do the "flush"?
you can use cheap stuff, should be ok. just dont use an actual engine flush. Do it this way. your 2005 truck might have bad seals and the flush might make them crack. its better to use cheap oil for a flush, you should be good.
@@ForeMoney perfect, thanks!
What makes it think Walmart is cheap oil? Yes the price is much lower but is not cheap quality oil. Look on the back. Same numbers and letters as the big boy companies. It also has the API seal of approval. You like pretty bottles fancy logos and endorsements? Then you pay more. People have reported over three and four hundred thousand miles on there vehicles and only used Walmart super tech full synthetic. It’s your money. If you sleep better paying more of your hard earned money do it.💤😴
get Kirkland synthetic oil, it's even cheaper than walmart's supertech
Why not just throw an extra quart through while the oil drain plug is still off to clean out any old sludge or dirty oil instead of wasting a whole 5 quart jug of oil? And doing 2 seperate oil changes?
i wanted the have a full comparison. would have been hard to see the difference if i didnt drain it completely. i see what you mean. but i also wanted to drive the car with new oil and see how much residual old oil would come out. 6K wasnt too bad oil now looking bad.
Does that work well doing that??
Use four quarts of oil and one quart of Marvel Mystery oil. That’s 20 percent MMO. Drive around 300- 500 miles then change oil and filter.oh ya don’t believe all the hype on oils. Walmart Super Tech full motor oil is top quality oil. Same letters and numbers as the big boy companies. It has the API seal of approval. It’s been tested and it is great oil. It is blended by Warren oil company that is known to be quality.
good to know. Have you done that method? What did you notice? did it clean everything out? Would it affect any seals or gaskets?
It won’t harm gaskets or seals. MMO is a very light oil around five weight. Castrol ultra clean is another great oil for slowly cleaning sludge. You don’t want anything strong to break off chunks of sludge and clog oil lines. If oil doesn’t get through you won’t be lubricating the engine. That ain’t good.
I have a motorcycle with 2000 miles. It was running perfectly.
After the first service it was running perfectly.
After the second service it now makes a knocking noise that start 35 seconds after I start it.
The dealership just changed the oil but it’s already black.
There are no other strange noises other than the knocking.
The oil is black after only 3 hundred miles.
Why is it knocking and why is the oil black?
I would guess you have a gasket issue or something loose. Oil shouldn't get black that quick or cause a knocking.
@@ForeMoney : what gasket are you referring to and are you saying that the two are connected?
What happens if you change it a 3rd time?
@@southbayla3137 I think it turns into olive oil
Now change the oil at 2-3k miles and see if the oil color ia better.
Fuel filter???
It's ok he meant to say oil filter
Do you change the filter twice or no?
I would say no, but it definitely won't hurt..
Every 3k miles oil change and 6k transmission oil change
6k transmission, seems like it’s too soon unless your doing some serious towing or mountain driving? How long have you been doing that and have you noticed any differences? Or just for better maintenance
@michaelchueh it's for better maintenance so I keep my car for 20 years or 30 years more.
After 5 miles of driving, it already looks filthy 😂
Wolverine: DoItAgain
I CHANGED OIL AFTER 800 KM IT WAS THE DARKEST, CHANGED 2ND TIME AFTER 30 KM RIDE, IT WAS DARKER, CHANGED FOR 3RD AFTER 5KM RIDE, IT WAS BROWN, 4TH TIME CHANGED INSTANTLY WITH ZIC SYNTHETIC OIL, NOW GOOD TO GO FOR 1000 KM😅
Oh, wow. Pretty interesting
Honestly that 5 mile oil should have flowed WAY faster than that 6k oil. Just goes to show how good that oil holds up.
Best results is sending it in for a full analysis. They usually tell you to prolong the life of your oil past 5-6k actually.
That's exactly right! It holds up very well. Can probably go longer than 6K or 10K miles, but how else would they sell you more oil? I'm interested in doing the full analysis too.
@@ForeMoney well everywhere I go has no problem whatsoever selling oil. I often times have to go to 2 places to get exactly what I want. Or a good filter and the oil. They keep pushing junk filters everywhere. Either Fram or STP
