  • In this video, I talk about the various industries you can work in as a chemical engineer.
    Disclaimers:
    1) Do your own research. I am by no means an expert. I have only worked in 3 different industries - the most reliable source is from someone who has actually worked in that industry.
    2) There is no "best industry" - job openings are dependent on where you live, the economy, where you live, and what you are interested in.
    3) Many job postings can be filled by various engineering disciplines. E.g. I was interviewed for a Controls and Automation role that was usually for Electrical Engineers but due to my experiences, I was seen as a good fit.

    How to get a job in any of these industries (in order of importance)
    1. Internship experience (relevant/non-relevant) trumps everything
    2. Get involved in relevant research at your university
    3. Leverage self guided/course projects that are relevant to the posting
    4. Browse job postings and make a list of the skills that are relevant and learn them on your own

    Chemical Engineers are very versatile. They can do anything. They are great Problem Solvers, have a mind for processes and are usually avid learners. • @shawn.builds
      @shawn.builds  Před 3 lety

      aspen plus and python are great! tbh your best bet is to have internship/extracurricular experience, but if not, try to do some aspen/python projects related to oil and gas... i've never worked in oil and gas so i honestly have a limited perspective on this. if you join the discord channel, you'll also get to ask more ppl about this!

    • @mohdnazarudin2636
      @mohdnazarudin2636 Před 2 lety

      Hai. You can try to do more case studies involving steady state and dynamic simulation.
      For steady state, you can work on more case studies on separator, heat exchaners, gas dehydration, or gas compressor performance optimization using Aspen Plus and Aspen Hysis while for dynamic simulation, you can use Aspen as well and also if you have the license, use OLGA for flow assurance under dynamic conditions.
      Involves and familiarize your self in those softwares and case studies, and it will increase the chance to land job in oil and gas.

    • @shawn.builds
      @shawn.builds  Před 3 lety +3

      The first internship I got required almost no experience, I just talked about my school projects. The second and third internships I got based on that first work experience, as well as other school projects and design teams that I was a part of. The best resume tip I can give you is to take lots of internships, do research or join student teams because those are the things that really shine on a resume, not online courses or certificates
