Saw SRV in the mid-70's in South Texas before he was well-known, playing with a band I believe called the Cobras, his roots in blues was so strong, and remember thinking this guy was gonna be bigger than anyone else on the scene at that time. He was the epitome of Texas blues, a Texas legend, and a damn nice guy to boot. We miss him, he was truly one of the greatest of all time.

Texas Flood from Austin by Stevie, Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland. Little Wing, Look at Little Sister. SRV did this song slightly different every time. Self taught, used major heavy strings which would tear tip of his fingertips. BB King said “ I've said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray Vaughan missed on both counts, but I never noticed.”

I think the audience was just sitting there in stunned silence in the face of this briliance! 😁
Stevie was using a wah-wah pedal that used to belong to Jimi Hendrix. He personally asked Jimi's family for permission to cover this song, and Jimi's father gave him the pedal as a gift. Jimi was one of his biggest idols, and it's been said that no one covered Jimi better than Stevie. He wasn't just covering him here, he was channeling him in a way all his own.
Here are some more suggestions for you:
Texas Flood (Live at the El Mocambo): czcams.com/video/KC5H9P4F5Uk/video.html
Tin Pan Alley (with Johnny Copeland): czcams.com/video/AGPx-ekqZEo/video.html
Love Struck Baby / Rude Mood: czcams.com/video/O4IKddEs5xs/video.html
    Riviera Paradise: czcams.com/video/3c_8VUL5jks/video.html
Everything he did was awesome; those are just for a start.
Stevie Ray is always best experienced live. His studio recordings were great, but his energy really came out on stage. Each live performance was unique because he made a point of never playing any song the same way twice. Thankfully we can now watch many of them on YT and choose our favourites.
Sadly he died in a helicopter crash in 1990, but he will live on in his music. I'm so happy you're discovering him and spreading the word to others!
    Hope you enjoy my suggestions!

The crowd is both mesmerized and shocked! They are very much aware that they're witnessing greatness. There simply is no crowd participation because everyone is studying those killer riffs. She had tickets to the concert he was supposed to perform with Clapton before the helicopter crash. He followed in his brother Jimmy's (Fabulous Thunderbirds) footsteps and embraced the southern/blues/soul roots. He snuck into bars at 14 to hear and play with some of the greatest blues artists ever. Check out his performances with Jeff Healey and his adventures in Montreaux. The first time he was booed. SRV is the GOAT of blues if not guitar period. So clean, so intricate SO PASSIONATE !!! BTW yes Jimi played a right hand guitar upside down and restrung because they didn't make many left handed guitars back then - in fact Eric Clapton (aka slow hand) had purchased a true left handed guitar for Jimi but never got the chance to give it to him before Jimi died (murdered I believe) watch The last 24 about Jimi and you'll learn that his lungs were FULL of wine - essentially he drowned which is impossible to self inflict.

If & when they are recording for a video or album, allot of times they will inform the audiences in advance. Many times they will ask for their cooperation to keep it down while the actual song is being performed. Then they can react afterwards or at pauses... such as you see & hear during & at the end. On the other hand...mostly it's not wanting to miss a single second of what he is performing because you can blink and not get to experience it. Trust me, ive seen him 6 times. And it was just like that every time. It's called being blown away with greatness

Jimi played a right-handed guitar. He just switched the strings for a lefty..I went to school with a lefty player who played a righty guitar upside down like Jimi, but he never bothered to switched the strings..Just learned it that way!..Great guitarist, btw, by the name of "Guitar Pete" Brasino...Check him out, on here.

There are left-handed guitars, but Jimmi learned how to play a right-handed guitar upside-down. You tune each string for a different chord. When a guitar is left-handed all the decorations and things will be on the opposite side so they will be on the bottom. The order of the strings is reversed too.
If you have ever heard somebody tell the guitar player to make it talk, that is what they are talking about. R&B actually has a lot of cross over with Rock and country.

This IS a Jimi Hendrix song. Stevie loved Jimi Hendrix and is the only one I have ever heard who could do justice to a Jimi Hendrix song. Jimi also played a Fender Stratocaster. The only difference was that Jimi Hendrix was left-handed and instead of playing a left-handed Fender Stratocaster, he played a right-handed Stratocaster that has been strung upside down (Low E strig at the bottom and High E at the top). Left-handed Fender Stratocasters cost more money so Jimi just restrung his right-handed Strat to play left-handed. By the time he could afford to buy a left-handed Fender Strat he was so used to playing a right-handed Strat upside down that he just kept playing like that. You should watch Stevie Ray's version of Jimi's song "Little Wing" and as always, pay close attention to Stevie's hands or you will miss something.

Hendrix played a right handed guitar, he was left handed so it was strung upside down
Stevie had a red guitar that is in a few videos that has a left hand neck on it
Some say as a Hendrix tribute

Austin city limints. Jay leno show. Thats why they are setting still. Yes jimi and stevie ray were self taught. Left handed Jimi learned on on a right handed guitar. Stevie worshiped jimi and southern texas blues music. Played with BB king and Albert king in grade school.
