“I just hope they'll make the buttons even smaller and the menu system more complex” lol.
I love the sarcasm hahaha
*AF-A Gate*
And Jim Fisher says (not only eye detection, but...)
“pupil detection and nose hair detection”. :-)
Us Aussies love sarcasm, it's how you can easily spot us! :)
Something really unique. Nobody else loves sarcasm. ;-)
...
(P.S. There's nothing Australian about me. I do own a few Røde microphones, but only because the brand name sounds extremely Danish.)
Having watched 3-4 other reviews of the same camera and shots from the same"events", I can definitely say that Chris is a great photographer. All the other "famous" youtubers/reviewers, were at the same spot, at the same time but only Chris observed and photographed like an enthusiast.
I want Chris and Jordan with me every time I walk into Best Buy and B&H narrating everything.
"Now, these oranges *are* pretty round and orange *but* we've got a lot of variation in size here! Also, the peeling does make your whole process *slower* and you have to deal with the garbage. If you look at these apples on the other hand, you can see that they are just *that* much more convenient because they *do not need to be peeled* . That being sad, if you're in the market for a juicy and healthy snack and are comfortable with it being a bit slower, we do recommend oranges to you based on what we've found in our Hands-On testing here at Whole Foods."
For some reason I found the "that being said" to be one of the highlights of that comment haha
@@HenryPiffpaff LOL! Exactly!!
@@HenryPiffpaff That is so good! I narrated it in my voice and it sounds perfect!
@@niccollsvideo Oh my gosh, I gotta clutch my pearls! Thank you for that! This made my day! All the best to you and Jordan
Thanks for the honesty, I enjoyed your review guys.
This camera makes me excited for the a6700/a7000. Flip out screen with ibis would be perfect!
As always, awesomely good review Chris -> honest and unbiased = enjoyed it. Thanks much :)
Matt Granger killed it in the intro😂.
Thanks for nice review as usual :)
Well done guys, thanks for the reviews
Very useful overview of this camera and its capabilities (and also what we might be able to look to in the future).
Great job. Thanks for honest thoughts. It is only my opinion, but will love to watch you longer than 13 minutes. Real pleasure.
Great honest and fair review... to many people expected a high level professional camera and I truly think they were unfair and not open minded to who this camera is intended for... definitely not a professional photographer. But most professional photographers egos are way bigger than any camera that could ever be produced. Great video like always guy's, thank you
Thanks for the honest and detailed review!
You have articulated my thoughts and conclusions about this camera exactly! Good video!
gotta love that articulating screen
Need that camera to up my cinematic travel game! AF is doped. Thanks for sharing.
This was actually pretty helpful & simplistic. Subscribed & bell clicked
A good and fair review as usually. I'll wait for the high-end aps-c camera.
Is it out yet?
Always love your guy's videos. Thank you.
You are definitively the best : first ones to mention the huge rolling shutter / wobbling I instantaneously found chocking first footage I saw, talking about the timelapse and making clear no video is created (bummer, the app did it, Sony come on, you nearly got it), emphasizing the bad vlogging setup it represents (why the f*ck don't they just put a fully articulated screen like Panasonic), showing the new menu customization interface (the pictogrammes will be a huge time-saving trick for both new Sony users and older ones), talking about the no recording time limit (which is pretty huge for some people I think) and all Chris' speach about new autofocus is so damn interesting and right ! 😊
Thanks a lot guys, contrary to a lot of other pro CZcamsrs you don't just "scratch the surface" of the equipment you review and that makes all the difference. Keep the good work, you rock ! 😉
Love your honest thoughts on the camera. Not that I am in the market for one (using Pana G9), it is amazing how much tech is stuffed into these cameras. Vlogging camera? I don't see how.
Excellent and thorough review.
Hi,nice review. If people were as honest as you are when reviewing a camera the world would be completely different.
I also think that manufactures will have to have at least two drinks before listening to your review!
Have a very happy new year,Chris!Bye.
Glad to see Chicano Park getting some love on your channel
Great review! I love your common-sense and positive attitude, Chris. Also, you were pretty steady when Jordan said you were hand-holding the camera to film him.
It looks like a nice camera at its price point. I think people expect too much these days, the camera companies will run out of improvements if they implement too many every time a new camera comes out.
One thing I love about the A6xxx series is the handling. There's no other mirrorless camera that you can use with one hand so easily. Especially not the Fuji bricks. Such a great body for street photography.
Nicely done guys, especially the bit at the start with me. Actually, what happened after that? (I've cunningly held YOU back towards the end of mine)
I'd watch your whole video even if I did didn't know there was going to be a hot Canadian at the end...
@@thatjordandrake two hot Canadians!
Great and honest review on the camera. I am looking into buying my 1st actual camera for my Dj business because I want to steer off into the photo business as well. I want a good camera I can learn the basics of photography but also don’t want to be upgrading in the near future. The Sony a6400 has caught my eye 👁. Thank you saludos from Dj Flex 💪🏽 watching from West Texas
Chris and Jordan, thanks for the tips and reviews. - RJane Style
Chris is the first one, I've heard mentioning there must be a6500 replacement on it's way too. Thank you! That's why this is lacking in some areas. Also I don't really get why everyone is moaning about the flip screen going up. You can buy a bracket to go under the camera, so you can have the mic on the side and I actually prefer the screen on top. I find it less distracting when I'm in front of the camera, and it's not as noticeable for the viewer either, I find.
Agreed, flip up is more comfortable imo. Sony needs to sell that bracket for an underside mic, which would mean that the flip "UP" screen is a purposefully engineered element which I fear it may instead be coincidental. I wouldn't want the next camera to suddenly be Flip down.
I worry that Sony is only half-ass'edly trying to meet vlogger demand.
same place, same camera, same subject, yet, your photograph are much better looking than other reviewer on the same trip. great job guys! love your work!
85 & 24mm primes rock harder than the 2.8 zooms :)
@@FrogFWK the composition alone is much better
@@bombthamrong if you can build sandcastles of your trouserpocket's contents... you've probably done something right - tilty screen or not ;)
I'm a beginner and I just found this channel. Keep watching and watching for better vlog camera. Now im dizzy
Loved the cameos, especially TCSTV!
I like the lady host.
Great video, what camera are you using while filming this? Thank you 😊
Dang, where are you filming that balcony shot with the glass? Flipping beautiful.
And Camera Conspiracies makes his appearance (after his shirt did earlier). I'm sure he'll be thrilled...haha.
Hi sir,
Which one will be better camera for macro, bird flight photography.
A 6400 or d7500 or any other option in these price range.
Please help me
I loved that opening sequence, great idea. Gordon must have a 6th sense. :D Nice video guys.
I’ve been using the 5100 for my vlogs I’m excited for the 6400 but I’m worried the lenes won’t move back and forth between that and the A7 when I eventually do get it
Great review! Thanks!
Looking forward to the A9 5.0/6.0 firmware review.
Nice review and well balanced. Enjoyed it ;-)
Can I shoot in rain with a weather sealed lens and sony a6400??
I’m looking to upgrade from my Nikon d3500, I’m thinking of going with this one!
ty for this video! the a6400 has image stablisation issues, which camera then doesnt have this issue?
Good review again Chris
Is it possible to display the level gauge AND the histogram at the same time. Is it possible to manually set the white balance using a grey card while in video mode?
With a price of 1049 Euro for the body it's really closer to the prosumer range than entry level or even above-entry like the d5600.
Main problem are still lenses, though. It's not a good feeling to invest into a system that the producer is not really focusing on or committed to. Sony clearly prioritizes FE. There really is only one player who takes APS-C even serious and that is Fuji.
Id Argue Sigma's great sony APS-C lenses support the a6x00 enough that Sony doesn't have to try as hard, especially when they still have FE lenses to work on. The FF Mirrorless is still what Sony is furthest ahead at, them competing with Fuji more aggressively doesnt make as much sense.
That's great for Sony but as a customer I have to keep my best interests in mind. @@Rohkii
Basic lens setup for a system is something like (FF equivalent):
14-200mm/2.8 zooms (holy trinity).
24/35/50/85 1.8 primes
16-300 consumer zooms with variable aperture (3 plus one 24-120).
A macro lens.
Maybe I forgot something but those are the basics.
@Mario Olivier
Lol for that price I can get an xt30 or an xt2
okay I'm thinking about getting this camera but also getting a battery grip for it does it use the same battery grip as a6300?
Please review Sony DT 16 50 2.8 SSM on A6400 with LA-EA3 adapter. Considering this combination for wedding & travel photography
Sir, what can you recommend a mid range nikon dslr for photography and videgraphy? Thank you.
I actually wish @DPReview would talk more about the high frame rate shooting capabilities of DSLR/Mirrorless cameras that come out. Do the ones who that shoot 120fps shoot it w/audio?
will those new AF features you mentioned, as well as the new animal eye tracking, be a something that is released for older camera models or only available in the 6400 and newer models?
What are the other "better vlogging" options? I'm looking at buying my first camera to be used mostly for vlogging. Any suggestions? Thanks
Ugh I live in San Diego!!!!! What the heck I didn’t know you guys were here lol
See, I think we've been so "wowed" by Sony for so long that a release like this disappoints. We are all holding our breath for that camera that has a true fully articulating screen (off to the side like Panasonic), headphone jack, IBIS, and a better battery. It was probably a good call not to launch this at CES cuz of how lack luster it really is, knowing we want something more!
Thank you!
What about mainly using it for photos? I have a very stupid question, is there rolling shutter in photos?
Which exactly app you mentioned for time lapse for Sony 6400? Because I’m planning on buying this camera specifically for time lapses. Is it complex to shoot time lapses with this camera? And what about the quality?
With eye detect on, can one still use lower f-stop? Or the aperture becomes automatic when eye detect is on?
I'm from SD....and that's a TOUGH neighborhood. Still, glad to see anything from my hometown.
Has the color science been updated since the A6300/A6500? Is it in line with the A7 III/A7R III now?
Great review as always guys , just one small suggestion , when taking about cameras overheating results ,
it wold be nice if you could give us a a rough estimate of temperature the device is tested in .
We often see reviewers mention how well devices operate in cold Europe for example , but if your filming in the cold of morning or a cooler climate area , and saying the device did not over heat ,
really it does not help us out much for those of us in warmer climates.
Cheers.
Good honest review 👍
PS what lens were used for the A6400 video footage?
I think that Sony should have considered working on a better sensor readout, if possible. You could pop this on a stabilizer, and maybe even get around the headphone and mic issue that way (depending on how you "rig" it) but that rolling shutter is pretty tough to get around.
Rolling shutter jello is just horrendous. Unacceptable!
‘WE NEED LENSES’, absolutely true!
Very good, balanced review! For most of the people most of the time this is still an excellent camera. Sony make some excellent lenses for the APS bodies, and prices are quite a bit less than full frame equivalents. Sony get a lot of criticism for their menus, but that's something you adapt to and stop noticing once you get used to it.
0:11 yes. Thank you
The best a6400 review out there
I see what you mean and in a way agree. But what is a good review ? A review that tells you what you expected to hear ?
This is not a review this is paid advertisement.
I like the review-part czcams.com/video/MamvBBsBbck/video.html i want to know where i can expect problems.
DPReview or other photography enthusiasts, I plan on going to Tokyo next year and I plan on buying this camera in between now and then. However, I'm not sure what lens to take. I plan on traveling light and I need an all around lens to use for almost everything (portraits of friends, landscape and a few videos). What would be the "jack of all trades master of none" lens to use in all these situations? Thank you for ya'lls time..
P.S. I don't know much about photography but I plan on mastering this camera as much as possible.
Which one is better Canon Eos RP or Sony a6400 ? for travel photography
Jordan can you slap Chris for wearing that moire shirt for me, please?
He hits me every time I wear it. Which is why I keep wearing it.

@@niccollsvideo 😂😂😂
Love that intro!
Hello guys what would be the ideal choice between the sony a6400 and panasonic fz1000II for making home and landscape videos. Greetings from Portugal. Thanks
Does Super 35 mm works with 4k30 or as before - only 4k24/25?
Is there a way to prevent the rolling shutter?
Rolling shutter and lack of Ibis are the only two limitations of this camera. And that means you'd have to improve your shooting techniques with or without a gimbal. I'm a Canon user and unless they come up with a better FF soon or Sony releases another upgraded model this year, I'm seriously considering getting this camera for video.
you are the best add for solid color t-shirts on Earth :O
Great review with some so far unheard aspects and nice shooting angles. This cam's not exactly upgrader's paradise. It may become more of an over-the-counter top seller though.
Thanks a bunch for this. :D
I wanted to get a sony a6300 in march pretty glad that I didn't definitely going for this one
Does the lens 18-135mm making any autofocus noises while recording videos ?
I agree - this is a family/consumer camera and a good one at a reasonable price point too. Whether it is the best or not is for each and every individual to decide and I'm not going to foray into that realm of discussion.
You were saying now we do not need to pick a AF mode for various scenarios. So, the ultimate AF mode for the A6400 is which mode? AF-C? That it will do all the AI to help focusing?
which of the lenses is better for close picture like 6 to 12 feet?
Starting out for short films. This or original A7?? Thanks
Slightly off-topic, but I noticed the video recorded with the Sony A9 had blown highlights on faces, whereas the Panasonic GH5 looked much better.
User error
I own both and the dynamic range of the Panasonic gh5s is worse. Great camera but low light and dynamic range are poor.
Because the Panasonic is a video MASTER.
There are no picture profiles on the A9, so while having the contrast turned all the way down, it still has very limited DR in video recording. The GH5 has a number of profiles to help you capture an extended DR, so while the sensor is 1/4 the A9's size, the video DR is better.
At least until Sony gives the A9 some damned picture profiles.

Hi, how about rolling shutter at 1080p ?
DUDE PERFECT REVIEW
Does a6400 record at variable frame rate or constant frame rate?
Will there be any audio sync issue in Adobe Premier Pro?
Hello, question for Jordan who proclaimed there were much better cameras out there for blogging.. Do you mind sharing your recommendations?
Great job
Does the auto cleaning function in the camera menu work on your a6400 ? Does the sensor vibrate when you turn on cleaning ?
The Eye focus is it working ONLY on Sony lenses, or other brand like the Sigma 19mm f2.8 or Sigma 30mm f1.4, or Sigma 60mm f2.8?
2 reason why this cam is great =
1) The New AF is *Huuuuge* for VideoCentric users (amateur /small video production)
2) It’s good enough to fight M50 (ML Apsc Best Seller) since M50 has 4K 1.7X Crop and Dual Pixel AF don’t work in 4K
A7000 with new body is gonna out soon, but i predict the price will be around 1300-1500 usd
This A6400 is very interesting, great value
Would you recommend the Canon 80D or the Sony A6400 if I were focused on wildlife videography including macro shots of insects, fish etc.?

Are you doing the review w/ the a6400?

Which lens do you recommend 16-50 or 18-135?
Does the 6400 have silent shooting? The option to turn off the shutter sound?
