Anyone else think this Jets coaching staff is ruining Mekhi's career? The right side is not only not his natural side but he's publicly said that the right side puts extra stress on his surgically repaired knee. I get that this coaching staff is very loyal to Duane but playing Duane on the left and Mekhi on the right is having 1 bad edge and 1 okay edge when they can have 1 very good edge with Mekhi on the left....

Zach has improved. But I wouldn’t say he is an asset to the team yet and would still bring in a veteran at some point. His reactions in the passing game suggest to me that when he has to think - he is in trouble. Which means the game is still moving too fast. However , if he throws the ball away to avoid the sacks , hits the easy throws , and chooses to run when the opportunity presents itself (rather than wait for the big play) - he can be effective as he continues to adjust to game speed.

What an excellent, accurate and fair analysis. On the deep pick, Garrett Wilson said that wasn’t Zach fault. GW added that the pick that was to go to Michael Carter was not on Zach. Saleh too put that one on the route, not the throw. Lastly, if Becton could have half gigs block a fraction of a second longer, and Zach’s arm isn’t hit, that’s a TD to a wide open GW in the front left corner of the end zone.

You can see with his throws that he's also adopting a little of Rodgers' patented body twist that gives his release and rotation a smaller arc, making it harder for the defense to anticipte the exact direction of the throw. Rodgers throws one of the most beautiful balls in football, and Wilson seems to have that crispness developing in his throws too. He's always had a good arm, but there's a touch and feel to his throws. If the Jets give him some support, he'll do them proud.

Spot on as always. Only addition I would make is that the deep ball to GW that got picked was still a catchable ball, even if it wasn’t a frozen rope, but Garrett took his eyes off the ball and looked at Hooker. Go back and watch it in the slow mo from the broadcast. He takes his eyes off the ball and instead of high pointing it, he looks at Hooker for a second, then looks back at the ball and hooker is already jumping. That play happens Bang/Bang. GW was telling Zach to trust him all night and throw it deep, but the time we needed him to make the play on the ball, he got scared of the contact, got distracted and got out played. No hate, just facts. Sauce drops the pick 6. Breece has 4 Carries. NONE of the stars performed as they should, including coaching adjustments and gameplan, not to mention the DROPS lack of protection or ability to run the ball or defense inability to get off the field on 3rd down or TERRIBLE roughing penalties on huge 3rd downs that the NFL admitted was bad, and Dallas played to their ceiling. We didn’t even play to our floor. Was it a 100% ball from Zach like it could have been? No. Was it a 85-90% ball that GW needs to make the play on if he wants to be as great as he says he is? Abso freaking lutely. Zach Wilson can win games with this team, if the team plays to their ceiling and we can get a damn block from the line.

Key consideration is that the players know the real deal. Wilson knows when Wilson tosses him a good ball. As long as Wilson holds onto the locker room, we should be okay. That said, we have to establish the run to ease things up for Zak. By contrast, Dallas had a strong offensive game plan, using short-ball to grind up yards and keep our aggressive defense off balance. With our RBs, I say run the ball until you clearly can’t. Bonus: An O Line prefers attacking a D Line on the run to getting beaten up play after play by a killer pass rush. Like Zak, the O Line needs a break, let’s try to give it to them.

I was a vocal Zach Wilson critic (not hater) the past 2 seasons. I agree wholeheartedly with your analysis; this is a different Zach Wilson, he looks and plays like an NFL QB. Amazing what good coaching and mentoring from a veteran can do for a young player. Still needs to learn to control the safety with his eyes; saw on Hardknocks Rodgers teaching him that skill, but needs to do it in a game. I actually liked the air on the deep ball to GW; last year his deep balls were too much like lasers; more air gives receiver time to run under it, he just needs to freeze the safety with a look or a pump fake.

Can I raise your bet? Zach looked BRILLIANT! 2nd quarter 9:10 mark 1st and 10 at the 35. totally swallowed up by Parsons, release time of less than 2 seconds, and the pass tipped as he's killed, and he still got it perfectly to Breece Hall on the screen - dropped . Same play he hit big on against the Bills. 8:29 to go in the 2nd period at two seconds, he does the shoulder dip to avoid the rush, steps up, the only reason he isn't grabbed is that the right end and left end rushes collide. He steps up with poise, but he snags his foot on the turf, you can see it clearly, just as he throws at 2 seconds release time. Probable pass interference on the play, and still put it where only Garrett could have made a play. Without that trip he most likely makes at least a first down catch even with Zach's toe snag. His picture perfect TD pass to Garrett is released with a two second release time. PERFECT. 29 seconds to go in the half no pocket had to run, executed it perfectly, and TAKES A HELMET TO HELMET SHOT as he is clearly going down - no call. If he didn't already have both feet in the air and his butt just off the ground it could have been season ending. You can see his head snap back on contact. With both Dallas players still sitting on him springs up for the next play. Brilliant. 3rd and 5, 12 seconds to go in the half down 18-7 and a touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson - if not tipped - 2.1 second release time. Carbon copy of his touchdown against the Bills and Aaron in preseseason. 3rd and 5 on the 16 , if the pass isn't tipped at 2.1 seconds it's a first down or more. And we can't say pass faster, 2nd and 17 on their 18 - 4:42 left in the third quarter down 24-10 he got rid of it in 1.2 seconds - pass dropped by Garrett. Look at that play, it's the kind of play he could has taken to the house. 4th quarter 8:16 to go, 1st and 10 on our 20 he got rid of it in 1.4 seconds and drops it in perfectly. Clear pass interference on what would have been a touchdown that NOBODY is talking about . The defender grabs Garret's right arm, yanks it down, then uses that leverage to knocks away the pass. Freeze it! That was a touchdown. 3rd and 4 on the 31 and 7:30 to play, evades a sack by Parsons, rolls to his left and passes nearly cross body off his back foot with Parsons IN HIS FACE, making the kind of throw only absolute elite QB's like Mahomes can make, drops a dime to Lazard, 44 yards downfield, who then gets pushed out of bounds. 44 yard pass play under extreme duress and pressure. Freeze it. You can see both defenders pushing him out, otherwise he would clearly have toe tapped. Revised stats, 16/27 300 YARDS 3 TOUCHDOWNS 1 INTERCEPTION. The last couple of interceptions would never have happened. Throw in the drops and it would be 19/27 and 330 plus yards or more, and 3 touchdowns or more. What is the completion percentage of passes where the QB had 2 or fewer seconds to pass? I stopped analyzing in the 4th quarter, because I was exhausted, and had spent at least 5-6 hours, free of charge, analyzing things and writing this sum up. When the game got out of hand he can't be blamed for heaving it. He was likely told to do so. And those late interceptions would never have happened because it would have either been a tight game or we would have been in the LEAD! It wasn' t a wipe out, it was Slugout. Zach made it EVEN against maybe the best team in the league right now. See it this way and we might very well have beaten them because our defense could take a breath.
    16/27 300 YARDS 3 TOUCHDOWNS 1 INTERCEPTION
Nearly every pass under intense pressure. That's the reality, we have the reciepts, Yet Jet fans (it's Stockholm syndrom btw:) and the media from SNY, to ESPN, to Eisen, and the youtubers crying out for Kirk Cousins. Wilson did what only Mahomes could have done, and they want him replaced. All the above plus the coaching staff, nearly destroyed this kid. I would have crumbled at that age under that pressure, always looking over his shoulder, being replaced by a less than average QB in Mike White who was praised to the hilt by Jet fans and Media. Then on that Thursday night, by a guy who could only run and throw ducks. WITH THE CAMERA'S FOCUSSING ON HIM ON THE SIDELINES. I've never been more ashamed of my fellow Jets fans. I know a guy who stopped being a Colt's fan and became a Denver fan when they dumped Payton Manning. I thought he was being disloyal, choosing to follow the QB over the team, but if al6:30 PM 9/19/2023l the above don't stop, he will leave and after almost 60 years as a Jet fan I'll follow him where he goes. He might be destroyed by then by all the above, but I'll still follow him because of the raw deal the organization gave him.

The "small school" program he came from has a Heisman, national championship, multiple Super Bowl winning QBs, NFL MVPs, 4 current QBs in the league, many All-american QBs, invented the modern West coast passing offense, and has been referred to as the quarterback factory. I see the "small school" trope repeated over and over again by Jets fans, and it's not true. BYU, while not a college football blue blood, is not a small school and has a rich QB history. What is true is that Zach played a watered down schedule his Senior year due to Covid....

Great Video Luke - Those of us who see the tremendous promise in Zach are severely outnumbered by the pessimistic Jet fans, much like the Spartan General Leonidas was outnumbered at Thermopylae by the invading Persians, but the Greeks won that war and people still sing of the bravery of Leonidas. Here's hoping that the pessimistic Jet fans will surrender their Eisen/Asman/Cowterd/Nick Not Wright/Every Idiot at the Ringer/Every Other Jet Podcaster cynicism after the Zach Wilson led blowout of the Pats, and we can all join forces under the same flag. We just need for the wind to be manageable, or for Cheapskate Woody Johnson to install a dome.
Our defense severely underperformed last week, now playing at home, with the Pats OL having to deal with road crowd noise for the first time we should be able to feast. This is the weakest offense we will face all year, this is our best chance for a shutout.

This is why I really feel that today's NFL throws 1st round QBs in too early. I remember the days when QBs sat behind veterans and learned the game. The best thing that happened to Steve Young was being traded to San Francisco to sit behind Joe Montana. Brett Favre was traded from Atlanta to Green Bay and sat, shortly, behind Don Majkowski (not a great player, but was the starter). Both of these players were considered busts with their first teams, but got moved and sat behind established starters. The Jets were able to do something similar, but in reverse, by getting a future Hall of Famer to help Zach Wilson. They either did it to help groom Wilson because Rodgers doesn't have as much time left to give or to increase the trade value of Wilson. Either way what they did could prove invaluable. (By the way, I am not trying to suggest that Zach Wilson will become the next Brett Favre or Steve Young by any means.)

Great video Luke. Context matters, I'd rather have a QB go down slinging it than giving up on the game and throwing check downs to preserve a stat line. 3 picks against the Cowboys this past week is very different than 3 picks against the Pats in a close game last year.
Zach can't throw 3 picks today against the Pats. The stat line should suffer today, the weather is terrible, but the media won't take that into account - it's OK when Burrow throws under 100 yards in similar conditions - and to be fair the context is different because Joe Burrow is a great player. Zach doesn't have that room for error.
We're looking for tangible improvement from Zach, expecting instant fantasy stats is unrealistic, nor is it the goal. Today's game should be tough against the Pats, bad weather or not. People are ready to pounce on Zach each week, regardless of the tape or the context. That being stated, Zach needs a win today in the worst way, a win and a decent performance can help secure his starting job going forward, and give him much needed positive momentum. A bad performance could mean the end of the Zach Wilson era, regardless of the context.
For context, Zach has taken steps forward, and needs to continue to improve in some areas. He needs experience to accomplish this. Today's game is crucial.
For context, I'm a Jets fans and root for our players to do well, and I choose to look at potential. I wanted Rodgers to start all 17 games this season. That's not the case, let's root for the Jets on the field. Zach may end up disappointing, but he has way more upside with his talent than any of our other options. Some young quarterbacks need patience as they learn to be NFL QBs. Geno was a bust, so was Steve Young and Vinny Testaverde, right?
I'm happy to see the shift in the offensive line. Go Jets!

The 3rd Interception isn't just on the trajectory of the throw. The Jets have the perfect call with double stutter go's on the boundaries against single high man. Instead of eyeing GW down the entire route, he needs to trick Hooker with his eyes because if he looked off Hooker towards either boundary, both receivers won their routes and he get his choice of which receiver to throw to for a touchdown. It's little nuisance like that, that Zach hasn't gotten yet. Yes his accuracy has improved but teams are going to dare the Jets to beat single high man and he hasn't shown the capability to do so

I’ve been a Bills fan for over 55 years, watching of course my team but also the rest of the teams in the NFL for that long. In my opinion, you can watch the All 22 for all of 24 hours non stop and cherry pick all the positive plays Wilson made. He will never be a consistently great NFL starting QB. Today he goes up against his clone, Mac Jones, and the Pats. My prediction is he will absolutely be the reason your Jets lose today and Saleh will be forced to bring in an experienced retread to learn the playbook and
    replace Wilson as soon as
possible. Zach is still young so he’ll bounce around the league like Darnold and Mayfield, possibly win a starting job for a team with no rookie QB ready to go, as Baker has done (for the moment) down in Tampa. However he just doesn’t have that “it” factor to ever be better then that. Even as a Buffalo die hard fan I felt genuinely horrible for Aaron Rodgers when he went down Week One. However he was brought in because the Jets organization knows that Zach Wilson is not the answer.

Yes we know! Zach Wilson is absolutely tremendous! That is why the jets score so many points with him as qb with the good weapons they have on o(and yes,I know o line is subpar). Memo: these guys are nfl qbs. You can cherry pick a few plays for even the worst of the worst that make them look stellar. You can take an mlb hitter who hits 8 homeruns all year and create film that makes him look like Barry bonds, but what is the point? Look at the preponderance of the results, and what speaks the loudest about a player is the team's game plan around that player and what they ask him to do. No one with even a modicum of football knowledge can look at the jets offensive game plans and think they think he is even an average qb

Down 3 scores with less than 10 minutes left in the game. Against a monster pass rush you cant keep throwing the ball out of bounds that late in the game. I admit he can make some good and some great plays.
While most back up QBs don't gain any positive yards, I feel the encouragement.
However Zach Wilsons stats on this day are only good enough if the Jets had run for over 200 yds.
If you want to baby Breece Hall because of the O-line, that's wise. However ground and pound Dalvin Cook and Michael Carter.
If you can accept three interceptions then you should also accept multiple three and outs where you run the ball on every play.
Also I believe if Chris Streveler was playing with this same O-line, you would get more positive yards consistently from the run so why can't Wilson hand the ball off enough.
Hackett is to blame for under use of the Rbs.

You're right that he's shown growth, but he's also not the answer to the problem at QB and I don't think he can become the answer for this team. That said we'll get to see him the rest of this season and see how he continues to grow and progress. But the simple truth is you can't get too excited over baby steps when the kid is 3 years old now. Are there other factors in play? Absolutely, does he deserve all the blame? Absolutely not, but would it be wise to waste another year after this year on trying to prove that he has talent if he doesn't show it this season when it's all on him to help this team take that next step? No it wouldn't be wise, because your window with the current talent you have is already closing the second it opens in the NFL.

Ask yourself how well Aaron Rodgers would have fared in 2007 playing behind this offensive line. My guess is not much better. Perspective is extremely important when judging what kind of future a player may or may not have in the NFL.
