    I really enjoy what you are doing, it would me great if all such type of videos had simple scheme with all device and connections between them, so when you add some new device, we see simple scheme, where it was attached/connected. It would be easy to follow and understand what you are trying to achieve/show, especially for people like me - non native English speakers. Thanks.

    • @RobvandenBoogaard
      @RobvandenBoogaard Před 2 lety +1

      @@TallPaulTech Haha, well okay then. I need to setup a bodycam solution on an ad-hoc/MANET network with body-worn radios for first responders. Multicast is key to keep the bandwidth to a minimum. The radios can handle voice and data (flatout OSI 2) and support IGMP. Your video helped me in understanding then protocol. Thanks Paul!

    • @TallPaulTech
      @TallPaulTech  Před 2 lety +1

      That half sounds interesting, and half sounds over complicated. Who's wearing this radio? Like firefighters or something? Are you talking about a Wi-Fi mesh link between them to put multicast over? If so, you're going to have to consider a lot of things and be careful how you do it.

    • @RobvandenBoogaard
      @RobvandenBoogaard Před 2 lety +1

      @@TallPaulTech LEO CRC units. The radios are milspec and have provisions and custom protocols to account for the problems associated with wireless multicast transmissions. It is not 802.11 but proprietary waveforms in a MANET configuration and indeed are mesh operated. It is not a new concept per se, but to me it is. Diving deep in your multicast videos helped me understand the fundamentals, so it will help me in implementing. It will be a fun project but indeed, a dynamic environment where this will be used might propose some challenges. I have a private playlist link on youtube to videos of the radios I could sent you.

    Perfectly explained. I have a TL-SG3424 TPLINK switch that has no "Querier State" function and the stream does not leave the client in port 5 by the client leaving port 8. Why?
    I also have switches that have the "Querier State" function and I also do not have to turn them on on some switches, and on some I need D-LINK DGS 1210-20. Why?

  • @JobHanssen

    Great demo! Thank you.
    Just wondering... Does this mean that the managed switch needs an ip-address on every IGMP-enabled VLAN to be able to send IGMP Membership Queries (192.168.0.250 in your demo @12:45)?

    • @TallPaulTech
      @TallPaulTech  Před 4 lety +3

      Correct, as that will be the source IP address for the query on that VLAN.

  • @haraldlutz5563
    @haraldlutz5563 Před 2 lety

    Great. I was wondering what IGMP is good for now that it was advertised in the switch to be configured. I just do not understand why is IGMP off at delivery of a new switch. ?

  • @macinman
    @macinman Před 3 lety +1

    Hey, got a question for you, I'm tweaking my network settings. I have a Chromecast, several other streaming players, and several smart speakers plus smart bubs. My router supports IGMP v2, and 3, and also offers options to enable / disable snooping, and proxy. From my research proxy is for multiple network access. Since I'm only dealing with one network and one subnet, if I understand correctly, IGMP proxy is not needed here, but snooping could help with the streaming data so it doesn't flood devices that don't want it. Is this correct, or should I enable both. Thanks. There isn't a lot of good info on IGMP regarding my setup, and what I want to do, so that's why I'm asking around for clarification. Thanks

  • @reatru6959
    @reatru6959 Před 4 lety +1

    Great video. Quick question. When running Unifi kit only 2 options exist (running UDMP), enable IGMPv3 (at the individual WLAN level) enhancements and IGMP snooping (at the LAN level). Do you advocate having both of these enabled period or are there situations where 1 both should be disabled etc ? Thanks

  • @chrispcall

    Love your videos! Do you think you could do one on your Chanalyzer setup, what RF antennas or external USB equipment (Wy-Spy?) you are using and what someone would need to troubleshoot RF issues or just help "prove it's not the network"? Keep up the great work!

    • @TallPaulTech
      @TallPaulTech  Před 4 lety +2

      That's a hell of a question. I can't answer all their possible RF issues in one video! I might think of examples and do some RF stuff in the future.

    Hello, very good, I have a doubt, the igmp snooping is recommended to deactivate it to play for example on a PlayStation 4 or is it better to leave it activated? Thanks in advance and best regards

      Hey mate, I see you're a long time subscriber. I may be back in the near future. I'm just looking for a reason to make videos anymore, but I can't resist the urge. It's just a bit of effort for something where the majority of the world just wants to watch stupid shit on youtube, or have it flooded with corporate video. If you give me some ideas of the type of content you'd like to see, then I'll see what I can do.
