भारत में ऐतिहासिक रूप से जितने भी हमले हुये, उनमें से किसी ने भी कन्वरजन नहीं किया चाहे यवन, शक, पारसी, शक कुषाण, हूण कोई भी रहे हो लेकिन जब अरब मुस्लिमो ने हमले किये तो कन्वरजन का एक सिलसिला शुरू हुआ! कहते हैं कि जिंदा कौमें अपना इतिहास नहीं भूलती, इसलिए कुछ लोगों को इतिहास बताना जरूरी है! दर असल इस्लाम ने भारत के केरल में 6 वी सदी में ही दस्तक दे दी थी! दक्षिण भारत में इस समय में 6 वी सदी में ताकतवर चालुक्य साम्राज्य, 7 वी सदी में राष्ट कूट साम्राज्य, 10 वी सदी में चोल साम्राज्य और 13 वी सदी में विजयनगर साम्राज्य हुये! इन समयावधि में किसी भी हिंदू शासकों ने न तो मुस्लिमो पर जजिया जैसा धार्मिक भेदभाव वाला कर लगाया, न उनकी मस्जिदों को गिराया न उनकी महिलाओं पर बुरी नजर डाली और न ही कन्वरजन करने का प्रयास किया! ठीक ऐसा ही उत्तर भारत में भी 7 वी सदी में सिंध पे जब मुहम्मद बिन कासिम जीता तो मुस्लिम बसने शुरू हो गये तो इस समय अवधि में भी 7 वी सदी में गुर्जर प्रतिहार साम्राज्य हुआ! कश्मीर के ललितादित्य मुक्तापीड ताकतवर राजा हुये! पूर्व में पाल साम्राज्य हुआ जो बौद्ध धर्म को मानने वाले थे! 10 वी से 12 वी सदी तक गुजरात, और राजस्थान में ताकतवर चौहान और सोलंकी राजा हुये, 17 वी सदी में ताकतवर मराठा साम्राज्य हुआ और 18 वी सदी में पेशावर तक महान सिख साम्राज्य लेकिन इनमें से किसी ने भी मुस्लिमो पर न तो जजिया लगाया, न मस्जिदों को तोड़ा न कन्वरजन किया न ही मुस्लिम औरतों को हिंदू बनाने का प्रयास किया! ये थी सहिष्णुता, सम्मान, सह अस्तित्व लेकिन इसके उलट मुहम्मद बिन कासिम से लेकर टीपू सुल्तान तक मुस्लिम को जब भी मौका मिला उसने अपनी मानसिकता के हिसाब से कन्वरजन किया, मंदिरों को तोड़ा, हिंदू औरतों को अपने हरम का हिस्सा बनाया! इनकी इसी मानसिकता ने पाकिस्तान, बांग्लादेश जैसे मजहबी देश बनवाये! ये ध्यान रहे कि भारत में मुस्लिम लीग को यहाँ के 95℅ मुस्लिम ने वोट दिया था इसलिए ये कहना कि इनहोने धर्म के आधार पर पाकिस्तान जाने से मना कर दिया था,सरासर झूठ है, दर असल नेहरू लियाक़त पैक्ट के तहत ये यहाँ भारत में रुक गये, लेकिन दुर्भाग्यवश जो हिन्दू वही पाकिस्तान में रह गये बेचारे वे फंस गये और आज 1℅ से भी कम है! CAA , NRC का विरोध करने वाले हिंदू क्या तुम जानते हो कि अफगानिस्तान में तुम्हारे पूर्वजों का हिंदू शाही किंगडम था, जो शैव मत को मानने वाले थे, कहाँ गये वो शैव मंदिर, कहाँ गयी वो सभ्यता और कहाँ गये वहाँ के हिंदू और बौद्ध?? आंखे खोलकर देखो कि आज जो अफगानिस्तान में तालिबान में हो रहा है वो कभी तुम्हारी ही धरती थी, क्या बचे खुचे भारत में यही चाहते हो?? अरे शर्म करो..

Naseeruddin Shah is simply upholding liberal values that are quite basic if you think about it. It's just that religious bigots from all sides hate liberals. In this one, Arfa, you may be overstating contradictions, generalizations or corelations that simply don't exist. Everything he said abt the dark history, fringe groups and silence of moderates, hesitancy of progressive politics is all true, you built a strawman of relating that to Demonization of Mughals by RSS while NS was holding an independent position, and started fighting that strawman. NS shouldn't have to walk on egg shells either around RSS or around other muslims.

I understand where you coming from but then your perception of his words may not be in line with his intention. Since this edition was a monologue, I would urge to invite Mr. Shah for a dialogue to clear up some air. It's not an uncommon thing in India to become victim of wrong perception, when ignored, becomes conviction.
Whole-heartedly appreciate and agree with Mr Naseeruddin Shah.
It's the duty of every person to denounce the extremist and prejudiced mentality prevalent in whichever community they belong to.
But, yes, it could have been worded better, to prevent malicious misinterpretation by the Hindutava extremists.

I listened to Mr. Shah's words a couple of times, and he clearly is referring to some fringe elements at the very beginning . I don't think his intention was to paint all Muslims in India with a broad brush. He should have emphasized this more to make it more clear to prevent his words from being misconstrued. I think you may want to mention that in your analysis Dr. Sherwani.

@Jio Boy LOL. Umah openly rejects UDHRs in favor of Sharia. Recent Pew polls show that 80% Indian Muslims favor Sharia over Indian Secular Law. While only 30% Hindus favor their Religious Laws over Indian Secular Law.

Madam, I love you for your rational political opinions. But, while apprehending misuse of his statement by Hindu Right wing forces, you have done the same which Muslim fundamentalist forces are doing. His message is very much clear that a segment of Muslims are driven by religious fundamentalism which is detrimental to the interests of the Muslim minorities, and has infact represented the viewpoint of the majority of the Muslims. I think, instead of misinterpreting his statement, you should have interviewed him to allow him to elaborate on his statement.

भारत में ऐतिहासिक रूप से जितने भी हमले हुये, उनमें से किसी ने भी कन्वरजन नहीं किया चाहे यवन, शक, पारसी, शक कुषाण, हूण कोई भी रहे हो लेकिन जब अरब मुस्लिमो ने हमले किये तो कन्वरजन का एक सिलसिला शुरू हुआ! कहते हैं कि जिंदा कौमें अपना इतिहास नहीं भूलती, इसलिए कुछ लोगों को इतिहास बताना जरूरी है! दर असल इस्लाम ने भारत के केरल में 6 वी सदी में ही दस्तक दे दी थी! दक्षिण भारत में इस समय में 6 वी सदी में ताकतवर चालुक्य साम्राज्य, 7 वी सदी में राष्ट कूट साम्राज्य, 10 वी सदी में चोल साम्राज्य और 13 वी सदी में विजयनगर साम्राज्य हुये! इन समयावधि में किसी भी हिंदू शासकों ने न तो मुस्लिमो पर जजिया जैसा धार्मिक भेदभाव वाला कर लगाया, न उनकी मस्जिदों को गिराया न उनकी महिलाओं पर बुरी नजर डाली और न ही कन्वरजन करने का प्रयास किया! ठीक ऐसा ही उत्तर भारत में भी 7 वी सदी में सिंध पे जब मुहम्मद बिन कासिम जीता तो मुस्लिम बसने शुरू हो गये तो इस समय अवधि में भी 7 वी सदी में गुर्जर प्रतिहार साम्राज्य हुआ! कश्मीर के ललितादित्य मुक्तापीड ताकतवर राजा हुये! पूर्व में पाल साम्राज्य हुआ जो बौद्ध धर्म को मानने वाले थे! 10 वी से 12 वी सदी तक गुजरात, और राजस्थान में ताकतवर चौहान और सोलंकी राजा हुये, 17 वी सदी में ताकतवर मराठा साम्राज्य हुआ और 18 वी सदी में पेशावर तक महान सिख साम्राज्य लेकिन इनमें से किसी ने भी मुस्लिमो पर न तो जजिया लगाया, न मस्जिदों को तोड़ा न कन्वरजन किया न ही मुस्लिम औरतों को हिंदू बनाने का प्रयास किया! ये थी सहिष्णुता, सम्मान, सह अस्तित्व लेकिन इसके उलट मुहम्मद बिन कासिम से लेकर टीपू सुल्तान तक मुस्लिम को जब भी मौका मिला उसने अपनी मानसिकता के हिसाब से कन्वरजन किया, मंदिरों को तोड़ा, हिंदू औरतों को अपने हरम का हिस्सा बनाया! इनकी इसी मानसिकता ने पाकिस्तान, बांग्लादेश जैसे मजहबी देश बनवाये! ये ध्यान रहे कि भारत में मुस्लिम लीग को यहाँ के 95℅ मुस्लिम ने वोट दिया था इसलिए ये कहना कि इनहोने धर्म के आधार पर पाकिस्तान जाने से मना कर दिया था,सरासर झूठ है, दर असल नेहरू लियाक़त पैक्ट के तहत ये यहाँ भारत में रुक गये, लेकिन दुर्भाग्यवश जो हिन्दू वही पाकिस्तान में रह गये बेचारे वे फंस गये और आज 1℅ से भी कम है! Please elaborate on the "dark side of Islam" . There are dark things in the world which Islam talks about. Hell for example is the darkest thing anyone can talk about.. but then you need to understand that Hell is meant for those that commit heinous acts and cannot be forgiven. These people can be ranged from tyrants to modern day rapists to pathological liars who manipulate people for their own benefit. You also have non believers i.e 1) those who choose not to believe despite given the chance to (chance given by providing the truth. for example: you see person A killing person B but you refuse to believe such an obvious event). 2) those who act like they believe but really don't.

1) Triple talak in Islam isn't easy. There's a huge process to it. Just because someone says talak 3 times doesn't make it so. Triple talak isn't even mentioned in the Qur'an instead muslims are taught to follow certain steps to ensure that you really really want and are in need of the Talaq. Triple talaq is majorly frowned upon and not accepted by most muslims. The steps that they need to follow almost helps the couple get back together instead of getting a divorce, however in case of severity of the problem, where the conditions are met (life in danger) then talaq is approved
