    Nemophila is a supergroup of sorts. The guitarist on the right is Saki from the band Mary's Blood (and was a member of the legendary Japanese all female band Destrose). She is a veteran of the Japanese music scene, one of the best shredders in Japan and one hell of a hard worker--she has 3 projects going on right now (Mary's Blood is well worth checking out when you have time). Tamu Murata (AKA Muratatam) (the drummer) is a noted session drummer and has many projects under her belt-she has her own youtube channel . Mayu (vocals) and Haraguchi-san are both fairly new to the scene but were members of Lipstick & Holderins respectively. There are a few videos of them, but not a whole lot. Hazuki (the guitarist on the left) is (was?) part of the Lisa X project.
    There are working on a new release and have a live internet only show coming soon. If they stay together I can see them possibly going places. But since they are all top players and will probably take a back seat to Mary's Blood, they may never rise above side project status, or get involved with other projects that may take off. They also, for whatever reason, seem to be sadly ignored by most reactors and I don't think they are signed to a label at the moment as their releases (2 EPs) so far have been self-released, so all of their promotion has been done by themselves.

      Hazuki was in Disqualia with Narumi. Nemophila started out as Mayu's cover project and then morphed into Nemophila.

    • @hiawatha.g
      @hiawatha.g Před 3 lety +8

      Hazuki worked both with Disqualia and LIsa-X. Nemophila did a live-stream concert recently with Gacharic Spin, hosted by Keiko Terada of Show-Ya. This community of metal women are wonderful and support each other in their projects, it's extremely cool. So unlike the American music scene where stars are constantly backstabbing each other. I believe Nemophila will continue to do things even if it is a side project for them--they really work well together.

    Yes, love Band Maid and Nemophila. Nemophilas song Life gets me to tear up. As its about life, and birth. They streamed it live back in August on a virtual show, after drummer Tamu had just come back after having her baby, and few months off. So watching her drum in the song, holding back her emotion is so nice. She does break down and cry, when Mayu gestures to her.
    Nemophila are each in bands but are freinds , and formed this as a project in fall 2019. So with the past year, they have an EP out, they wrote songs this past fall, for another EP, and album, and put out covers each week. Tamu is great. Akane and Tamu are my favorite drummers right now. Their yt vids of covers in Tamus practice, record area, have cameras all over room, with Tamus pedal cam. This is how guitarist Saki dresses. And Hazuki and Saki are with Kanami as favorite guitarists. Haraguchi San, is very good on bass, this song she is more laid back. And just like I love Saikei vocals, i love Mayus soft, cute, sassy clean vocals. And her screams. But yes Nemophila was a project for these girls, but has become more. And the name is after the flower.
    But i love this band, along with Band Maid. Just not into Love Bites. LB are some of most talented musicians, I just cant get into them.

    Tamu is a fantastic drummer that I follow for some years now (way before Nemophila) . But I wouldn't say she's "better" (or less good!) than Akane or Haruna. Three top drummers, each with their very individual style and "touch". And there's more! Yuri and Hana (Gacharic Spin), Marina (Aldious), Junna, Senri (Kawagushi), Yoyoka ... Japan is female drummers heaven.

    • @Miraie93
      @Miraie93 Před 2 lety +3

      Not just drummers bro, its all of it. Japanese female is not normal. They can shredd even better than any male guitarist in the world, slapped the bass that make Billy Shane looks cute, rolling the drums like nothing. The only place we can see this kind of things is Japan.

    • @rolandkarlsson7072
      @rolandkarlsson7072 Před rokem +1

      @@Miraie93 - it might have to do with the Japanese schooling. Playing instruments is not optional. And we all know that females takes school more serious than males. Serious classic studies in music is very popular in Japan. Many Japanese metal/rock females are schooled. Go check to see if that also is so for US and European metal musicians.

    Throwing in my vote for a Nemophila - Sorai reaction. And as others have said, Life is a great and emotional video, filmed after the drummer had just returned from maternity leave. A lot of people were worried that this was just going to be a quick side project for people that were already members of other bands but they seem to be putting that idea to rest. They have a live stream coming up on the 28th plus new music on that day too. Seconding the request for Maximum the Hormone, Maximum the Hormone II is a unique song. Perhaps the most interesting band you will see. Plus their drummer is a hero to many Japanese female drummers, Band Maid’s Akane lists her as a primary influence.

    Firstly, thank you for getting the band's name right and bonus points for knowing the meaning of the word (both, the etymology and the flower). I've lost count of how many music reactors I've seen get it totally wrong. Secondly, I see others have already commented with most of the main details of this band so I'll just add with some background info:
    Hazuki (guitarist, left), Haraguchi-san (bass), Tamu (drums) are all classically trained multi-instrumentalists since early childhood and even the singer, Mayu has some classical training and can play the piano. Much like many other child prodigy drummers from Japan who got famous at least in part by youtube (Senri Kawaguchi, Kanade Sato, Yoyoka Soma etc.), Tamu Murata was one of the first and grew a huge fan-base long before her first band. I mention all the other members first to provide context for Saki (guitar, right) who is self-taught and didn't start playing the guitar until graduating high-school (her dad is a diehard 80's metal fan and took her to see her first metal show for her graduation present), yet she still managed to work so hard at it and have so much passion for music that she is now one of the most regarded metal/rock guitarist in the current scene. It is no exaggeration to say that Saki is kind of a modern legend.

    Good analysis.
    Love both Nemophila and Band-Maid and some Lovebites. They're not playing the same songs, and each drummer is playing to the music and talents of the other members. Def apples and oranges for comparison IMHO.
    It has been said that Miku is reaching the point where she can coordinate tightly with Akane's drumming, and notice that leaves Misa free at least on occasion to play "lead bass" spectacularly, especially lately. So - what you said.
    All these are older than they look, except vocalist Mayu. She is the kid.
    Hazuki is guitarist on screen left, Saki on screen right. Both effing amazing.
    In Lovebites, Midori (sunny, adorable Midori) is typically on screen left, Miyako the darkly serious one on screen right. Both effing amazing.
    Haruna has a lot more versatility than we usually see. In another band she might sound entirely different. But Lovebites is 90% speed metal (listen to any ten random songs and prove me wrong) so speed is what she plays, very very well. The compact dynamo.
    Band-Maid you already know. Still my #1, but Nemophila is right up there.

    Band Maid, Nemophila and Lovebites to me sound completely different so they aren’t even in the same group to compare them. L sticks mostly to power metal, N is metal (mostly heavy metal so far) and BM is hard rock with several elements mixed in. The only similarity is them happening to be Japanese and all female, musically they hardly overlap. Even their vocal styles are very distinct from each other.
    Asterism is an instrumental band playing metal. Sound wise Asterism and Nemophila are probably in the same group.

    I would say Tamu is as good as Haruna or Akane, not better than. I would love to hear Saki (who has the skull design on her cab+amp) play alongside Miyako from Lovebites. But adding her to Lovebites might just make me lose what's left of my mind. It would almost be too much awesomeness!
    To see another side of Saki, check out "Amahiru - Hours (Official Video)". It's a collaboration between her and Kreator/ex-DragonForce bassist Frédéric Leclerq.

    Tamu is a more complete drummer. She can do anything. Actually she is working as a session drummer you can get for any task. The drummers in Lovebites and Band-maid are very skilled, but more "one trick pony".
