Castlevania: The Complete History is a 2 part retro gaming documentary series discussing every single game based within the world of Akumajō Dracula
You probably already know of the 1986 action-platformer created by Konami for the Famicom Disk System (and eventually the Nintendo Entertainment System) But what you may not know is who made the original trilogy of NES games, what inspired them, why they made them, and what they are doing now!
In today's episode, I plan to answer all of these questions as well as cover every other game too including its follow-ups such as Simon's Revenge and Dracula's Curse on the same system. But also cover the strange Arcade ports such as Haunted Castle and the Playchoice 10 cabinet too.
We will cover its obscure releases on the original Game Boy such as The Adventure (plus it's Wii remake) & Belmont's Revenge, the even more bizarre Vampire Killer, and Akumajō Dracula on the sharp x68000
And of course, we will be giving special attention to the Mega Drive / Genesis release of Castlevania Bloodlines AKA the New generation before digging deep with the super Nintendo classic Super Castlevania IV before ending on probably the greatest Castlevania ever for the PC Engine AKA the Turbo Grfx16 game Rondo of Blood!
The less said about Castlevania Dracula X AKA Vampire Kiss... THE BETTER!

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this game. When I was a child my parents took me to one of those "trendy" churches. You know the kind, where the pastor tried to "connect" with youth, and "rap" with them.... Ugh it was so embarrassing by proxy. Well this was of course in the 1980s and Nintendo was in full-swing. He had a Nintendo in the basement of the church and used to sit with us while we played games during youth group.
Well, one day he picked up a copy of Castlevania, and of course we really liked it! David or "Davy" (the pastor) really ran with this. I guess he thought it fit in well with youth group as it was Christian oriented, and you were fighting evil on behalf of God. After a few weeks, he started coming to church dressed as Simon from the video game. Eventually he brought a whip, and started to try to whip stuff around the church. For instance, would try to whip "out" the candles etc. He was never really good.
One day he was dressed up at Simon and was giving the Sermon (this time in front of all the church, adults etc) and he was trying to make a point... pulled out his whip and tried to whip one of the lights... but on his backswing he caught a child in the eye. That child eventually lost her eye unfortunately. It was real sad, especially considering the insurance the church carried wouldn't cover this; it was considered an individual matter.
I don't know what happened to the pastor, but the little girl who lost her eye is doing okay now, and certainly cracks a small smile when she sees videos like this :)
    That little girl is me.

For what it's worth, Dracula XX/Vampire's Kiss works incredibly well as a complementary experience to Rondo of Blood. Personally, I would love to see it remastered, with a playable Maria and maybe a couple more level branches.

first off thanks for the fb message! this was definitely worth the wait to watch... defintely been a longtime fan of the series as far back as the nes original! most of the original games i didn't even get around to finishing until that classic collection konami put out recently! definitely the best way to play those (since they include the vastly superior Japanese versions) also yeah shout-out to dracula x: rondo's god-tier soundtrack (and i had heard johnny 'turbo' brandstetter talk on twitter about trying to get rondo localized to no avail, heard he was really fighting for that one! shame it never arrived but at least konami wised up after the fact and re-released it at least three times after the fact.)

I don't think either Vampire Killer or Castlevania 1 is a sequel. That's like asking if Dracula X or Rondo of Blood is a sequel, when they're two different adaptations of the same concept. They don't play the same way, sure, but they've both got roughly the same story - Vampire Killer and Castlevania 1 are about Simon Belmont hunting down and killing Dracula, Dracula X and Rondo are both about Richter Belmont fighting Dracula. That's how the official timeline treats them.
