- My very first conceptual run for future Pokemon was Garchomp back in 2021 and I've finally gotten around to redoing it since I make my own stuff these days. Let's see how this dragon does in Pokemon Red!

►I can only use the title Pokemon in battle. No switching at all, HM Pokemon are required.
►No use of items in battle. Potions, TMs, etc. are allowed outside of battle.
►No use of skips/exploits. This includes the Pokedoll Marowak skip. Badge boost is unavoidable.
►The TMs for Double Team and Toxic are banned. Pokemon that learn similar moves naturally are allowed to use it but not the TM.
►I play on x3 speed and use the in-game time for the run along with resets to rank these runs.

I feel like you missed an opportunity to play Cynthia's theme during the champion fight. Oh well, there's always the Mega Garchomp run.
That would have been cool but you can't replace the OG champion music.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I think he meant editing in the music in post production.
@@verymelonman12 So did I! I’d never have in game sound sped up x3 lol
>Agatha

Already with the dad jokes GLM... 😂
I do what I can!
Hell yeah! As I’m sure you noticed Matt I found your channel fairly recently. Easily the new look forward to every new video channel for me
Appreciate the support and glad you enjoy it!
Great Stuff Matt - Thoroughly enjoyed as always, very impressed you are able to keep up the pace with a little one in the house!
Ha, I've halved the pace since. Still doing what I can but just trying to enjoy it without a part-time hobby controlling my life, if that makes sense. Glad to have an audience but it would be really cool if I could multiply it x20 lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I still think it’s really impressive, I would love to be able to get one out every two weeks! I’m very curious about how your workflow actually - I’m sure what I’m doing is super inefficient 😅
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 and I’m sure your audience will keep growing, your videos are brilliant!
Efficiency when you do multiple runs isn’t too great but I just get everything planned, take notes during the run or I’ll cut the video into clips with small notes. After that the video is already segmented, I just follow the notes, use the bullet points to sling together audio, and with that I already have the clipped together video cut. I just match what I’m talking about to the clips, put markers to know where graphics/split data, etc go, and go through one more time to see if I missed anything. Videos that aren’t 40 minutes are much easier.
If you are like me, getting a clicker or making a distinct noise while recording audio is a life saver because I mess up a lot while talking. That way you can identify the cut and quickly get rid of it when making the whole file, especially since I’ve been scriptless and just rambling for 50 minutes lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 oh wow, you do it unscripted? Your commentary seems so well organised I assumed it had to be scripted! Some great tips there - thanks 🦆
Tombstoner Brother!!!!! Glad too see another video and I always enjoy you throwing the Pokémon Trading Card Game music in the mix always a nice touch 🤙🏻🤙🏻
You know me. Always trying to throw in at least 3/4 TCG tracks into the video lol. They are just too good. Maybe they aren't and its all nostalgia but that's alright.
Bro they are too good and the nostalgia is a on level ten when I hear music from that game. What’s real crazy is there ppl that’s never played it. They just didn’t have the experience like we did as kids when all the Pokémon games came out including Trading Card Game. It’s was definitely great times for sure
Yea they were really good but I’m a big tcg guy anyway so it was the perfect blend to me. I tried the translated 2nd tcg game but it didn’t have that same hit but I beat the tcg a few years ago in a casual playthrough aka I just won packs until I got a few Hitmonchans, god tier trainer cards, and just won every match.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 the TCG music is 100% some of the best on the GB
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I just started a replay of the TCG myself. Always enjoy catching up on the nostalgia games lol. And it’s always a banger when playing that game
2:23 I'll say Slow level up is gonna be the biggest hurdle. Maybe Garchomp's somewhat sparse move pool.
Edit: Okay, Lorelei did cross my mind with the Slow level, but I thought that was too obvious of an answer.
Edit 2: Lorelei wasn't as painful as I thought it was gonna be, but man that lucky Clamp was such a heart stopping moment. Glad to see your routing and training paid off in the end for a clean League sweep.
Oh yea. Slow level up group is always bad but the double weakness to ice probably added a few minutes on the time on its own for the planning.
I love your 1st gen solo runs especially these with Pokemon that didn't exist back then! So fun to watch
Also i predict garchomp's issues will be slow level up group and slightly low speed class
GLM cross gen runs are my favorite thumbnails to see on a Sunday afternoon
This one was a banger. One of the better thumbnails I drew.
This was a solid run, didn''t pass the Mewtwo bar but you did a great job. Looking forward to the next one!
For sure. Not everything can get there, and that's what keeps it fun!
I would imagine the Kyurem would do very well in these runs, Particularly Kyurem-White. Not only does it have Ice STAB, but it starts with Dragon Rage and gets early Rock coverage. The only types that would deal super-effective damage would be Rock and Fighting, which isn't too bad. Personally, I think its Gen V moveset would work the best, as Freeze Dry would be a nightmare to code (and Icy Wind would do the job just fine).
Using black/white Kyurem looks busted for sure but its a shame they give the moves so late. I bet it would do well, especially considering Ice is the highest by the numbers in terms of ratings for my data that I'll eventually show (one day). I'd like to do all the dragons one day but time is limited these day more than ever!
Just what my Sunday needed!
You got it!
Haven't finished the video yet, but I'm going to predict the issues: Slow leveling group and ice weakness are problems, and the lack of physical moves in the early game might be an issue if Dragon Rage falls short.
Edit: Great video as usual. My only nitpick is that you would have been better off using Earthquake instead of Rock Slide on Exeggutor in the champion fight (and Jynx in the Lorelei fight) since they're the same effective power. Looking forward to the next video!
You hit the nail on the head! It had that Iron Thorns/Tyranitar problem like a lot of high attack Pokemon do with special moves. For the edit, I know its a little more efficient to use the more accurate move but I'll die on that hill that 90% accuracy moves missing has to be one of the biggest overblown things you see people say. I don't mind using them that much because you got to think of saving PP for later and going without elixirs if you can.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Yeah fair enough, I figured you were doing it to save PP
How about do Lucario next? It's one of the few frail Steel types, and it's a mixed attacking Fighting type, and a rare Pokemon that gets Extreme Speed.
The next several are all planned but I can look into it. It looks interesting because of the typing but I prob won't use Extreme Speed. 80 base power move it learns in its 50s at best and it gets body slam after the 2nd gym.
Brother you should do a run with Super Magicarp. What is Super Magicarp? A magicarp with the following moveset: Flamethrower, Hydropump, amnesia and Ice Beam. And of course Perfect DV'S, and Maxxed out stats. As soon as you reach Celadon.
I'll leave that for someone that does those types of runs. I'm not too big on the whole make believe learnsets while flashing Magikarp on the screen for some views, haha. One video was enough for me.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Okay cool maybe I should do that run then! Could be cool to see how low of a lvl. It would be possible to beat the game if Magicarp just had a Proper learnset.
Yea, I mean I put event moves on it but still had 3 digit resets. A proper moveset is one thing but amnesia is not a proper move. Barely any Pokémon get that move. Poliwag/whirl, slowpoke/bro, snorlax, Mewtwo at basically level 99.
what an insanely good back sprite
Yea this one was pretty clean. They aren't always perfect but the last several have turned out well!
I love the R/B/Y sprite. Boy has a proper scowl.
P.S. I love you waxing on about stats Brother. Really you can talk about whatever you want. I enjoy your cadence and your confident voice. I hope you keep making these vids for a long time. Thank you!
Yea it’s a good sprite. I went more classic with it then forgot to show and talk about the front sprite lol. I’ll keep making as long as I’m having fun! Or I’ll do them even if I’m not having fun if the views magically bloat x20 lmao.
Garchomp 2: The Sequel to Garchomp
All of these low accuracy moves are making me anxious
Good eye! I talk about it in detail towards the end. I’m having first run Kyogre flashbacks.
got here from squidgy's shout out to your channel and i'm loving it already
Nice. What did he say?
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 i forget things easily but i remember him mentioning other runners in one of the videos
Pausing at 2:34 to stake my claim that the slow level up group will be an issue for chomp
Edit at 3:26 - hit the post there, didn't think about the ice weakness
Slow level up group is rough as well. The combination of the two did it in.
I started this last week, man. I was hoping for another release today but lemme finish this good old run first. Love you man. ❤ you da TOMBSTONER BROTharr
Every two weeks! I just don't have the time anymore to put 20 hours a week into a hobby.
How do these non-gen 1 Pokémon’s special stats get converted from their 2 split stats when imported from modern gens?
I don't say it much in the video for the sake of not being redundant but I call it the Chansey rule. I take the highest stat. If you look at Chansey in gen 2 compared to gen 1, that's the idea I go with.
Sand tomb prevents your oppenet from attacking you where dig you can be hit on the turn you return
True!
I must say, im happy to see the sandshrew kid branched out to another pokemon
200 runs and counting!
"Underratedly Strong" just like TOMBSTONER, Brother!
For sure. It has potential but lacks in just a few areas.
Always love the TCG soundtrack.
Easily the best Pokemon music in my opinion.
24:00 very lucky that water isn't super effective against ground in gen 1, so clamp ended up being not very effective instead of neutral effectiveness 👌
That's a gen 1 text only bug. It is neutral but there's a type combination list and whatever type is listed first, it displays the message for it. It would say the same thing for a grass move or if you used a ground move on Venusaur, it would say not very effective despite it actually just doing neutral damage.
The fact that Garchomp didn't get a reset to Lorelei is enough of a win in my book 😁 Judging by how many close ranges there are, it'll be interesting to see how much time Mega Chomp can shave off in comparison.
It really depends. It might even be able to shave off a level but for runs like Tyranitar, Metagross, Garchomp, etc where I've already used their best set, you'd just be watching the same run but with higher stats. Maybe if some time passes it'll be viable though.
Thanks for the video!
There were a few times where you go for neutral Rock Slide over resisted STAB Earthquake, but they have the same effective power and Rock Slide is 90% accurate. I see you like to live dangerously. 😂
For sure. I got a few comments on it and I’m not too bothered by the 90% accuracy. Against Lorelei, for example, I’m trying to be able to use EQs PP all the way to like Lance if I can to avoid menuing but moves with slightly less than 100% accuracy gotta be the most exaggerated thing the big channels focus on lol.
You’ll see people he like ‘I had to use Rock Slide on Blaine, pray for me’ but the reality is that 9/10 times are excellent chances!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I almost prefaced my comment with a disclaimer that I hadn't checked to see if you needed to conserve PP. I've noticed that a lot of people don't recognize when STAB moves are better despite worse typing, and I left myself on autopilot.
I think I'm actually a much bigger fan of low accuracy moves than most. I am almost always willing to roll the dice on Fire Blast, and I think Mega Kick is pretty underrated, especially in FRLG where it's obtained just after Mt. Moon. I'm so far gone that I even seriously consider Thunder from time to time!
For sure. To go even deeper, I'll take the risk for a move that only has a 40/60 chance to get the one shot. I think if you look at the maximum potential of a run, taking a risk and it paying off gives the highest payouts. It depends on how you look at it, but consistency is just a thing that people who use real life time worry about because you'll end up wasting 8 hours because a single mistake forces you to start over.
I never do dumb things like rely on a 10% freeze chance to win but sometimes I'll roll the dice on a 30% chance and take a few resets if need be and all of that just to really say that a 90% accuracy move missing has never been on my mind for even a second.
If you are afraid of a 90% chance not working out, then the run was never going to be as good as it could be in the first place.
Man, I've been following you, Scott's Thoughts, BigLeagueMDB and JRose11 for a long time now. Hard to believe that old run was three years ago...
On another note, I'm digging the sprites this go around! They feel less like "chonky updated Blue" sprites and feel closer to the older "wild OG Red and Green" sprites.
Sadly I forgot to talk about the front sprite in this one. I designed it like I would try to do a true conversion so it has basic gen 1 color pallets and all that. A lot of times a gen 2 style pallet with dithering is the way to go like with Goodra but I kept it simple here.
I was confused, cause Matt said Sand Attack several times in the beginning, but was talking about Sand Tomb
Yea, I was hoping people would put 2 and 2 together because I’m not recording new audio lmao.
Would love to see a Hydreigon run. High special stab dragon with salamance like speed. Dark moves for psychics. Could low key be a Mewtwo contender.
It might be! At this point, you got to contend with a lot more than Mewtwo but I'd like to hit all the psuedos one day.
I’m guessing the overarching problem is the slow level up group meaning he will get stuck at Lorelei
Hit it right on the head!
Hey Matt, I saw on Scott’s most recent Pokemon yellow video he mentioned that the stretch from Rival 2 to Bills house contains the largest cluster of mandatory battles in the entire game. You didn’t mention it in this video so I wasn’t sure if you were aware. It might be a fun fact you could share with your audience in the future.
Good information to know!
Been looking forward to you uploading another video; thanks Matt :)
Once every two weeks!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I know; ever since you became #BigDaddyMatt
Always good to have something to look forward to though :)
18:48 *TOMBSTONER, BROTHER!!!*
Oh yea!
I always figured sandtomb was more of a dirt firespin vs a clamp
About the only thing they have in common is being a trap move. It just has the same base power as Clamp. Fire Spin is 43% weaker than the two.
Garchomp is an amazing pokemon, even while considering the 4 times weakness to ice,and the lack of the physical special split in gen 1, even though it couldn't follow the gen 1 Mewtwo pace.
Sand tomb is really good for a very fast and hard hitting pokemon, like Garchomp, and I do agree that it's better than dig in the long run, because it's a great answer for tough battles like Lorelei's Dewgong, and the warping lass.
Having Sabrina as the fouth gym leader is something that you don't see everyday in a gen 1 setting.😮 But swords dance and sand tomb can do most of the heavy lifting. Sabrina in pokemon yellow could have been some what a challenge with flash ,if you'd like to set up beforehand, but a strong physical attacker like Garchomp won't need that.
Doing more runs can give you more experience, but it take a lot of time, and you could miss the deadline, that you've set up for yourself. And besides, 3 runs I think is a fair amount,in order to get the general feel of a certain pokemon.😊
By the way, the back sprite is really good!
Yea, it's funny because Flygon ended up doing it and I don't think anyone things it is more powerful than Garchomp but it just goes to show how bad the slow leveling group can be! Garchomp was good and had tools to slice through the game but it just needed levels to not die to an ice hit and that was the downfall.
You are right about more runs and all that but these days, I'm just enjoying the process. If it takes me 2 months to make something, so be it. It's ready when it's ready and I'm not going to stress too hard about it, especially with time being in short supply. It usually takes me about 20 hours total and I just can't justify spending that much time on a hobby but 3 runs feel like a great balance to keep it at least kind of on track.
The sprite is a hand made devamp of gen 4's I believe and I went true gen 1 with the coloring and all that. It was well done and I forgot to even show the front sprite in the video lmao!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 It is ironic that Flygon ,with lower stats, and the right growth rate, was better than Garchomp. Wow, growth rates can definitely determine a run's pace for sure.
I do believe that 3 runs is pretty optimal for the time you have to make these videos every 2 weeks. I think that it is, amazing that you could do it on time, with all things considered.🫡 And besides you can always get back to optimize them on stream at some point, whenever you want.
I wish I could watch the front sprite as well.
Maybe I’ll do a community post on it today when I get time lol.
I think growth rate is like the 3rd most important thing. The learnset matters the most, the stats, speed specifically, can make or break a run, and then the growth rate is right after for me.
I’d love to stream more. I was supposed to stream in July and here it is almost September lol. Getting 3 or so uninterrupted hours to entertain people while I play games is a very hard thing to do, especially with a particularly tough semester of school this time.
Let's go baby!!!
OH YEA!
Kinda wish you'd started at Gible and worked your way up to Garchomp.
I'm sorry. I've never done evolution lines. That's more like 'how fast can Gible beat 85% of the game and then evolve at the end' and I'm not interested in that.
Very fun, but that was a huge unnecessary risk at the end. There is zero reason to rock slide the eggs! Earthquake has the same effective power because it gets stab and rock slide doesn't. Has Scott been rubbing off on you? 😂
Excellent content and play, as always.
Ha wouldn’t say huge. 10% accuracy doesn’t bother me too much. I know there’s a bias with sub 100 accuracy moves but 9 out of 10 times, pays off. I’ve brought up EQ vs rockslide in other videos if eq is resisted or rock slide is super effective but I was just being pp efficient even if I didn’t have to be.
The long and short is it’s just muscle memory and in the moment I just didn’t put any thought into it. If I could do like 30 runs, you’d see those little things.
I would assume that the overarching problem is that garchomp is a slug (slow level up group) with a 4x weakness, in this case ice. 2:28
Hit the nail on the head!
TOMBSTONER BROTHRAAA!!! LOVE THAT MAN !!
That's what I like to hear!
Let's go Garchomp is my favorite pokemon
Cynthia music intensifies!
Real one here. Always a pleasure. Love to see the content. Keep up the good work as always.
Doing what I can!
I was almost right about the final move choice. I figured it'd be earth quake, swords dance, rock slide, and body slam. I'm curious about the part sand tomb plays in the e4. Im guessing its for trapping a mon you can't quite 1 shot.
Yea! Cloyster lol. It has 870 defense.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Yeah, cloyster has all the defense! Didn't even think of that.
Commenting at 2:35:
I’m noticing a lotta low accuracy and special-only move options in that learn set, I’d be surprised if Garchomp doesn’t struggle in the middle game when Dragon Rage can’t keep up but she doesn’t yet have Earthquake or Rock Slide.
(Plus the “final boss” of Lorelei later, but Rock Slide with high-speed might trivialize that).
Ultimately I think this might highlight that even though Goodra is almost definitely the weakest psuedo-legendary in later gens while Garchomp is a childhood-menace, in Gen 1, I feel like the tables might be turned.
Yea, the low accuracy moves were a slight worry. They always miss at the worst times but I do think its interesting that Goodra placed so high while things that are clearly better in the future do a little worse. It just goes to show that RBY was a weird game.
Overarching problem of the run? My bet is on the slow experience group.
It cripples pokémon's times that are in there because you just level up so slowly and can fall behind. Garchomp likely can make it up a bit by just being so strong that it can muscle through the game on lower levels in general, but Lorelei with her ice types, if not one-shot by you, likely will be terrible for you.
EDIT: hell yeah
You hit the nail on the head for the most part!
Another great video! Thanks GLM!
No problem!
Love you buddy. Just know that
Very cool.
For some reason it hadn’t occurred to me that if you back ported later Gen trapping moves they would work like Gen 1 trapping moves lol. To bad the really strong ones are signature moves
Yea, I had to self nerd Regieleki since it was designed with new mechanics in mind.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 All of solo running is self nerding lol. Seriously though, I forgot you had done that run, base 80 power thunder cage probably would have been game breaking. At least magma storm is only 75% accurate.
Yea the baseline to me is clamp. It’s got like the strongest potential power for a move but doesn’t break the game. Accuracy I’ll leave up to whatever it is but I have trouble putting a trap move over 35 base power. It’s one of the few restrictions I have.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 That seems reasonable tbh, Pokemon has some really broken legal moves, (cough cough population bomb) but the game is balanced for 35 bp trapping moves not… well this math is pretty bad. 80 bp between 2 and 5 hits is 160-400, plus stab is 240-600 into a neutral target. Technically 20% less power than Magma Storm, but it’s also 90% accuracy, same as blizzard and eleki has a 39% crit rate and if one hit crits on a multi hit move in Gen 1, they all crit…. That has to be the widest damage range I’ve ever seen for a one turn move. Good call nerfing that lol.
Real one! Another great video Matt
Appreciate it! Glad to see people are liking it.
Tombstoner brother!!
Appreciate it, brother.
Being behind ONE F-ING SECOND of Kyogre must be very frustating for one of (if not) the best Gen 4 Dragons...
Ha, I like it when things are close like that with no planning. I try to just do the runs and I'm always interested in how it comes out!
00:00 This is gonna be broken
*gets sand tomb* okay yeah this is busted...
Oh no sword dance....
Jesus that's an inaccurate move set
1:57:53 that's not bad compared to what it was up against
Good run as always doooooooood! Hope all as well being a dad broski.
Things are great! Yea there are a lot of great things but it just didn't add up to a top 5 or anything but not everything can!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Good to hear!
Garchomp wouldn't be raght in gen wuuun!
My only problem with runs like this are that not all Pseudo-legendaries get the right stats when backporting. This Garchomp has an extra 20 points in its BST of 520. Using the lower 80 special attack stat would make it closer at 515, but it bugs me that there's no way to bring it back to 500 without messing with the stats to not be Garchomp stats. I feel similarly about full legendaries that end up with more stats than Mewtwo. 590 is a lot with only 5 stats, and I'd like all box art legendaries to be on that level, or 10 points below in the case of Groudon and Kyogre since they were purposefully made a bit weaker than Raquaza in terms of BST. These Pokemon will all, ideally, lose 90 BST going from 6 stats to 5
I find it best to find an overarching rule and stick to it. I use Chansey for that. If you look at gen 2 Chansey and how they changed it compared to Gen 1, I just use the highest stat. Trying to micromanage or be anal-retentive all the aspects to make them fit into a perfect box is just a waste of time and energy, imo.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I appreciate that, but that also makes me think of gen 1 Hitmon's getting over 100 base special with that methodology, and then it just bothers me that I could do the same thing. I really enjoy the vids when I watch them, this is just one of those things that's a me problem, cause I know I'm anal about stuff like that. Don't be a perfectionist like me, you'd never even have a channel if you thought like I do, lol
I know the feeling. Before marriage/baby I always did extra runs because in my head I had won Scott’s Thoughts races and I need to have the best runs possible but the reality is that you don’t have to be perfect or stress. It’s a hard concept to grasp but when I realized this wasn’t my job and people don’t care about the difference between 3 runs and 6 runs, the hobby got a lot more fun. It was like treating your nightly gaming time as a job where I should have put a time card in there lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 that sounds super nice. I've got the wife and baby now myself. Nice to know you're also a recent parent. I appreciate the responsiveness. Gives me some motivation too. Been having a rough time with my career so it's nice to hear about one like this going well and being fun for you. Maybe I'll try it out if my wife goes along with me spending my nights learning the routes for however long it takes. I'm not sure she'd be happy for me to make that decision at this point though 😂🤣
Definitely try it but it’s not a career for me. It’s just extra money on the side and it’s the equivalent of working like 10 hours a week at McDonald’s lol. This is just a hobby for me and isn’t really financially viable to raise a family on lol.
Chomping at the bit to watch
I've heard that phrase a few times!
Lorelei will be the problem
Double weak1
My chompy chompy boi!!!!!!!!
The chompiest!
Little root town theme for Red/Blue gameplay?
Don't limit yourself to one singular soundtrack!
Call me crazy, but I feel like Garchomp's special should have been lower to keep the BST the same as Dragonite's, since DNite's BST was 500 in Gen 1 and the pattern of Pseudos is that their BST matches the og. (Yes, Mew also has a BST of 500 in this game, remember).
I use what is called the Chansey rule. If you look at Chansey in gen 2, it's the highest stat and that's just how I operate and don't factor in any sort of balancing because I'm already creating an impossible situation.
It goes both ways, Goodra had 490 bst, Tyranitar/Iron Thorns worked out to 500, Metagross had 510, and Garchomp had the highest so far. Outside of rare move scenarios, I try not to rebalance things too much, if that makes sense. I just use the rule, and things fall where they fall. If the extra base stat total made it the top of the list, maybe I'd consider but it's not even close in the grand scheme.
Can we see a Zacian run?
I can look into it!
Is the problem Lorelei by any chance?
That double weakness wasn't fun!
song at the beginning??? :o
thank you so much!
I believe it's a track from the Catherine OST. Joji Washington.
if you're demaking a pokemon to gen 1 why not change dark/steel moves to another type? did you have to code in dark and steel?
Yes but I mainly want to see how they’d do an taking away dark type or steel type from a Pokémon just removes their identity. What is metagross without the steel typing lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 well I find it interesting, with some pokemon like the fairy types that used to be normal, or i think Magnemites became steel later. The decicions about how to demake are interesting. Certain moves don't exist yet, type matchups changed, and all that. Nice job on this
For sure. I’ve been wanting to do Grimmsnarl forever and with dark/fairy typing, it would be a damn shame if it was just normal lol.
Would replacing Dragon Rage instead of Fire Fang before that Exeggcute fight not have been a better idea? You didn't seem to be using Dragon Rage by that point and you were commenting on how you didn't have anything to deal with Exeggcute. Would Fire Fang have done too little damage?
Definitely too little damage. I’m not exactly sure of the exact point but if you mean Pokémon tower, the extra attack stat and rock slide does more but you can’t really one shot it at that point. It’s just annoying little guy.
Did I see garchomp?👀
Maybe.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 loved it. You truly are a Pokemon master.
Part time Pokémon master when the baby is asleep and I have 2 hours/don’t have school work due lol.
would it be op? not really? its a ground dragon without a good enough electric move. it would get melted by pretty much anything that could use ice beam on it. it is fast and strong, but its special wouldnt be anything special(get it).
The wonderful thing about a solo run is that there's like 4 things with ice moves!
Hey Matt. How's everything going my boy?
Great!
I challenge matt to a 1 on 1 battle for his badge
It would be like an episode of the anime. I'd just give it to you and mumble about not having time because I have a midterm due, gotta work, and I gotta watch the baby a few days.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 😎
Thank you matt 7 more to go lol
If we assume the only Dragon attack is still Dragon Rage, I doubt it would be that much better than Dragonite. Tauros's Blizzard still nukes it probably (haven't done the math so take this with a grain of salt)
You never battle a Tauros in a solo run, much less one that knows TMs. Competitive hypotheticals would be cool, but this is just a simple solo run.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Oh I thought this was with regards to pvp
This man commented without even finishing reading the title of the video. Jesus Christ
@@amccumberx You're right. I need to rethink things
Would Fluttermane be good in Gen 1?
I've never looked at it!
The timer doesn't stop until the screen goes white from the Hall of Fame entry cinematic. Your timing is off per official record keeping.
No. The timer stops when I tell it to stop, which is when gameplay ends. No need to bloat the time for a cutscene that’s the same length every time.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 incorrect, but alright. lmao
@@Derek.Horton Don’t tell speedrun.com or they’ll never accept my Garchomp Pokemon red run. 🙏
Hey my favorite pokemon
Nice!
Hey GLM, you gonna do a regular pokemon in a regular video soon?
Sure. 4 of my last 6 are regular Pokémon lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Let me be more specific! a non-backported legendary or pseudo-legendary, but a regular old Caterpie from the Red version, for example!
Not a great example. Caterpie is impossible in the vanilla game! Tauros is next then Swampert in emerald!
If you don’t count legendaries then 3 of the last 6!
why did you not kep fire fang
For Egg? Lower special, doesn't one shot anything. The last thing it can one shot were the bug catchers on Nugget Bridge.
So, it's a land shark...
Techinically it flies at mach speed.
How is it worse than flygon??!?!
Slow level up group is where I'd begin looking for the answer.
TOO over powered.
Nah, this bitch is like 12th on the list.
I don't think you're answering the question of "How Overpowered Would Garchomp Be in Generation 1?" I think, if anything, you're answering the question of "How Overpowered would the Player Character be if They had Access to Modern Moves?"
The point is that even with new typings that didn't exist, new moves, and every advantage between, they just aren't as good as vanilla Mewtwo outside of a handful and that's what's interesting to me. It's the whole goal for me. I wouldn't dare waste my precious free time creating custom ROMs, testing it, doing multiple playthroughs, filming it, and analyzing it if I was forced to make these with only tackle or no STAB moves for some.
28minutes??? Jeez
There's this magical thing called editing, lmao.
Sand tombstoner
The OG tombstoner.
Okay, but what about starting with Gible?
I just play each individual Pokemon. You don't really get a feel for Garchomp if you need to trudge through the entire game until level 48 to see the titular Pokemon for a grand total of like 4 or 5 battles lol. Playing whole evolution lines also means nothing would ever be able to compete at the top if it evolves, and I like the idea of mons like Alolan Ninetales or Flygon being able to be faster than a lot of legendaries.
Why not start with Gible? This seems way too OP.
I mean, the title of the video is 'how overpowered'. It's like 12th place of the runs I've done so it was about middle of the road for these types of runs.
In my opinion "blind" run where you dont know exatly everything is stil great, perfect run somhew fell difrent when you doing some mistakes etc. In funny way is more interesting and give chance to be more "in to run " becose when you watching this and see "o this is great solution" and lets say you dont see this , this make vide more enganig for vieiers so dont wory everthing can be fun perfect or not perfect run 👍
It's just a different style. I like to see where a Pokemon can get to rather than just fumble through the game. It would be a hell of a lot easier to just do one run, not care, put the footage up and talk over it, that's for sure.
Are from Alabama or Mississippi?? Lol just asking, Alabama here.
Puerto Rico!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 you kinda have a southern accent! I'm surprised!
For another interesting Gen 4 Pokemon to try a crossgen run, there's Empoleon. Fun fact: To this day, no other Pokemon has the same typing as it.
I'd like to get to all the starters one day. The schedule is so hectic with everything irl and trying to balance regular gen 1 runs, gen 2 runs, gen 3, while trying to add in cross gen. Takes a lot to keep people happy lol.
ursaluna or mamoswine pLZ
I mean... Alakazam and mewtwo exist lol
@@Grumpisaurus Yes. Those are Pokémon.
You pretty much only lose to Articuno and any mon that learns blizzard since its 80 acc in gen 1
It's 90% accuracy but in a solo run of Pokemon Red Blizzard is only found in one single battle at the end of the game.
Hot Take but Garchomp is overrated
I like the design but he's not on my top 10 or anything.
Slow level up group
That's part of it for sure!
Bihebdomadal or a fortnight.
Yes
Yes, new vid dropped 8)
Oh yea!
Fire fang and crunch are physical moves, not special
Have you ever played a Pokemon game before generation 4? lol
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I played emerald, I could be wrong? But the list said physical too
Nah, the moves type is special or physical pre gen 4. If it's a normal move, it's physical, if it's a water move it's special. There is no such thing as a physical fire move or a physical dark move.
First!!!
Hey Boss, gonna watch it in a bit. Just wanted to drop in and say sorry I haven't been around much. Still love your work, just been busy with a new job and school and stuff. Keep up the good work :_GLMD!!ood:!
All good, brother. I know the feeling. Job, school, marriage, baby. All things that take A LOT of time!
Would love to see an Ampharos run GLM.
I've been wanting to bust it out in Crystal and see how it does. I bet it would even be good in gen 3!
Awesome! Happy to know!!
