Roof Racks for a Car with a Bare Roof?

  • Do you need roof racks but have a bare roof with no form of rails or adapters? I was recently in the same exact situation and after some research, I found a few options you might want to look at!
    If you are new to my channel, I love kayak fishing so I obviously need roof racks. Check out a few options below:
    Malone: amzn.to/374MbIu
    Yakima Baseline: amzn.to/32GQyFX
    Thule Evo Clamp: amzn.to/2KbzOAt
    Sportrack: amzn.to/2q34nBw
    Thule makes racks which fit most models (as do the other brands) but they were the only ones who had a roof rack system available for a 2020 Chevy Equinox. That’s why I went with them!

    Thanks for this video. I actually bought two kayaks while on vacation last year with a 13 hour drive ahead of me and a bare roof. The sporting goods personnel put two large pool noodles on my car, shrink wrapped the two Perception kayaks together, strapped them down with ratchet straps through my doors and off we went! lol I'll order the Thule today since we're headed back to that same vacation spot in three weeks.

      @FishAnything  Před 4 lety +4

      Yeah that’s definitely an option as well! I simply wanted something a bit more permanently placed! In addition, there are times I rig two kayaks on top (very sketchy) and foam blocks wouldn’t work well for that.

    Hi Ethan. I am in the process of buying a pick up truck (a toyota hilux). I have no experience with mounting stuff on top of a car. But I would like to be able to eventually put a variety of things on the roof. e.g. one or two kayaks, maybe a snowboard, maybe something i can't think of right now.
    As i'm the process of configuring my car, i have a couple options, like cross bars like what you are showing, but also rails that are on the side of the car and go alongside it. But I don't know which to pick for what. The ones that go alongside, are they basically a base that many other racks can be installed on top of? (such as the crossbars). or should i just get the crossbars and then install an "adapter" or specific rack to carry specific workloads? But then what's the purpose of the one that go alongside the side?
    As you can tell I'm pretty clueless. hope you can make me a bit wiser. cheers!

    I’m actually debating in trading one of my cars in for a pick up truck. I have roof racks on my SUV but it’s nearly impossible for me to mount my kayak on top of the car alone. Especially after spending hours on the water and being exhausted. My kayak is pretty heavy.

    I've been shopping around as well and these seem like the best option available, but still don't necessarily meet my criteria for a rooftop tent on a 2018 Honda Accord. Is a rooftop tent something you've considered and what kind of options do you think there is for a bare roof?

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Před 3 lety

      I haven't thought of a rooftop tent for them but this is a great point. I would have to imagine the Thule's will hold it fine as these things are sturdy as heck.

    What price range is this rack and the mounting hardware? My Altima doesn't have a rack because none of them do because apparently Americans don't haul anything except people and groceries with cars. I like that this system seems like it's easily removed for cleaning or off season storage.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Před 4 lety +1

      That’s the biggest downside to this system. You will end up spending like $500 for the bars, mounting brackets, and fit kit. Because my car is new, I couldn’t find any used so I had to cough up the cash. Seems like a lot of people sell them online though so you can usually find good deals!

    Hi Ethan, i m about to get a new rod (a dropshot/neko rig rod) and have an option between two rods and would like to hear your opinion on which one i should get, its either the daiwa tatula elite 7 foot medium light fast action(one piece) or the shimano zodias 6 foot 8 medium light 2 piece. Which one would you get?

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Před 4 lety

      Sounds like you have two great options and you can’t go wrong! Personally, I’d probably scoop up the longer one piece rod if you have room for it. The extra length helps drive the hook home when fishing the drop shot in deeper water. Additionally, a one piece rod is likely going to increase sensitivity. Hope this helps Caru!

      @FishAnything  Před 4 lety

      Right on happy to help! And I’d say any Shimano or Pflueger spinning reel that is within your budget will work. Generally, the higher up you go, the lighter they are and the smoother their drag becomes. Ultegra is probably a great reel!
