  • The scindapsus Treubii Moonlight is a plant that many people want, but equally many people can sometimes struggle with.
So I thought I would share my experiences in the hopes they could help you if you get a bit stuck with this plant.

After watering my scindapsus (pictus, silvery anne, exotica and treubii), I just forgot about them.
At some point I will notice that their leaves start to coil a little. If that happens I thoroughly water them again and then just forget about them again.
And it has worked out great so far, no root rot, no yellowing leaves and they grow very nicely.

I was just watching a video on this plant from one of the biggest growers here in the U.S. Costa Farms says it's such a slow grower that it took them 3 1/2 to 4 years to build up enough stock to start distributing it to retailers across the country.

Holy cow that treubii is gorgeous. I've been having a small crisis over how to handle the growth on mine and seeing your absolutely stunning specimen has resolved all of that - I'll wrap the vines around and around and hope they don't become leafless. I did notice these respond well to pruning; each vine I've cut has produced multiple new growth points making my overall plant thicker.

I have had this plant for 6 months and its so freaking finicky!!!! I bought it because I have an argyraeus and exotica and they are super easy. I was very wrong about the moonlight!! Its hard to find a video from someone who has one as big as yours which means they don't know what they are talking about. Mine is growing but I still get yellow leaves even though I let it dry out to the point of slight folding leaves..I will need to repot because its obviously not in good enough drainage. I didnt want to repot from nursery soil because I didn't want to kill it, but it might happen anyways if I dont... ty for the info
I freaking hate mealy bugs they freak me out for some reason! Good to know! I have been watering mine around the 30 day mark as well, maybe a bit more time even. I was thinking about moving it to leca thinking it will do better, I still may do that.

I purchased mine about a year ago and after bringing it home watched it rapidly decline. I sought out advice from some plant groups and everyone advised to not hastily repot but give it time to acclimate. My gut feeling was that there were root issues and I went against recommended advice and decided to repot it so that I could inspect the root system. I found a massive amount of root rot so I removed the damage , treated with a peroxide/water mixture and repotted into a terracotta pot with a mixture or potting mix, horticultural charcoal, perlite and orchid bark. I also had a small piece that broke off and I placed that into a prop box with sphagnum moss. I was fortunate and was able to save this beautiful plant and successfully rooted the piece that had broken off. Terracotta is the only way to go on these beauties. Don't over water them... EVER. :)

Thanks for sharing your insight on this plant Memo, and other plant enthusiasts here. This is a finicky plant for sure. It doesn’t need much water, and will throw an absolute fit if overwatered! It will turn yellow on the edges, and the leaves will curl and then die. It also prefers medium light in my experience. It doesn’t care for bright, indirect light. It likes indirect light. It grows so slowly that it is hard to fathom of a philodendron. If I had to do over again, I would pass on this one.

I've had a relatively easy time with this guy. I chopped him up when I got home b/c costa farms pots in straight peat and nothing else 🙄. Kept 2 cuttings, gave away the rest. One I placed in my prop bin and rooted in to a very rocky/barky moss mix, and the other had a few roots still attached, so I placed him in a coco and pon combo, then in my milsbo. The prop bin cutting has these amazing chunky roots wrapping everywhere, but hasn't activated neither of its two nodes. The one in the milsbo is pushing out leaf #3. I dunno what a big plant like yours would want want, but mine actually a dense substrate. I also have repot him like 4 times since August w/ no issue. Again, mine Is a prop, so probably a diff situation

Such an excellent video. I killed my 1st one. My 2nd is now 2 years old and I'm only just getting used to what it actually wants. I figured out quite quickly that it needs a chunky mix. Mine has annoying yellowing and spotting on some leaves, but I think that's due to nutrients because I'm too much of a wimp to repot it yet 🤣 I've upped the fertiliser now to every 2nd watering, so hopefully that will help. Lots of new growth appearing now. It's absolutely not a beginner plant! I'm an experienced grower, but like I said, 2 years of anxiety to get to the stage I'm at 🤦🏽‍♀️

Hi, I bought mine a few weeks ago. Correct, in Belgium they are hard to find as well and I searcher for a year before finding it. It has been in a quarantine box at first and apparently loved the heat and conditions and has put out 3 new leaves while in the quarantine box. I also repotted it because there was a smaller pot within the nursery pot (deadly, why do they do this?). When I purchaser it, it was overwatered and in bad soil. I don’t mind it being a slow grower because I have a large orchid collection and I consider them as slow growers as well. Thank you for your video, it was really helpful. Hope mine (slowly) thrives and stays beautiful for a long time.

I find it odd that you and many others here have struggled with rot when I go through the opposite. I have to water my Scindapsus, specifically my Treubii Moonlight, more than 95% of my other plants. I've gotten into the habit of gently folding the leaves whenever I think of it as I was severely underwatering it before. I was told by so many people to only water Scindapsus when 90% of the leaves curl but mine have yet to do so, the leaves just feel very flimsy and slightly thinner than usual rather than feeling firm like cardboard. I water them thoroughly and next thing I know they need a drink.

Have you tried propagating this? I got one here in the states and it died immediately. I have 2 leaves and a node left in water and I'm not sure this is the right way.

I wish I’d seen this 2 months ago when I bought this plant. It was sitting in water at the shop. I’ve watered it once since purchase and that was recently. It has increasingly curly leaves and yellowing…. Definitely should’ve reported right away.
