  • In this video I'm giving you my top two recommendations for concrete floor saws. These saws are used to saw expansion/contraction joints in concrete floors to help control random cracking. The first saw is the Husqvarna Soff Cut 150 and my second choice is the Husqvarna 390.

    Im learning to build a driveway that can handle a school bus driving on it 4 times per day, because the new development on our 1.5 mile long dead end street removed the only section large enough for a school bus to turn around on - the location that had been the neighborhood bus stop for over 20 years. So im learning how to cut the asphalt at the street and what to put next to it so it can handle the transition as the bus drives on it, including wet-rainy days! Im trying to build a strong permeable driveway but realized the edges at the main asphalt paved street which parallels our driveway was pretty dang shabby - and no way gonna hold up with school bus and all that pressure on it. The edge was a thin asphalt with lots of dirt underneath. So ive been cutting it with my husband’s regular framing saw but put a diamond blade on it and used gorrila tape to attach a water hose near the blade. It’s actually worked great BUT im really sore and still have probably another 50 ft to go. But now the asphalt has a much more solid edge and way thicker, and i can but up against it either concrete paver blocks and or the commercial stretch geo tech grids i got made by Truegrid as well as Vodaland. I bought both in commercial strength to compare which is better! But i was really worried about that week edge at the street so I decided to force it to have a nice straight edge on it so i could put something else strong up against it and will be nailing in the geo grid pavers which will also help! Im learning as i go but had some survey experience working for a contractor over the summer as a grade checker and roller operator a long time ago!
    I have not decided, if i use block between the street and the grids, what material i should use in between and around them - concrete? Or just use polymeric sand? Not sure.

    You guys do good work. My question is how does he cut straight without using the front guide. I cut really straight myself but not confident enough to cut without the front guide .

    Any suggestions for a saw that cuts metal? I own a small company that builds vehicular bridges and often need to cut a few hundred feet of 3/8" thick metal (a36) decking. We have used track torches but just recently started using Husqvarna demo saws (not the walk behind type). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You make cutting look way too easy!

    Mike, I'm wondering about the cut when it gets close to the edge and run into a wall. These are both circular saws correct? My question how much is left, do have a way to finish the cut, or does it matter? Thanks for all the great videos and advice!

      A couple inches are left when you run into a wall chase that cut with an angle grinder with a diamond blade on it for an edge you can just run it right over the edge and lift up after the blade gets through it

      The Pro-line stamps are good. The Butterfield colors stamps and products are good also.

    • @MikeDayConcrete
      @MikeDayConcrete  Před 5 lety

      Taniela - We just broom up the dust into a dust pan and put it in a 5 gal bucket. That cleans it up pretty good, there's still a little dust but not bad. Other than that you need to vacuum it up. We never have had to vacuum the dust on a job.

      24 hour old concrete using a fresh blade on the same saw. It was roughly 1 hour 45 min to make 11 cuts 620 feet total. I don't see it going 10× faster or more even with softer Crete and a faster operator.

    how you start from the edge or how you cut all the way to the edge?

    • @MikeDayConcrete
      @MikeDayConcrete  Před 5 lety +1

      You have to use a hand-held (4" dewalt will do) grinder with a small diamond blade to cut the remaining 2" to the wall. The guide on these saws don't let you cut that close. We don't usually cut this last little bit, the floor will crack in the saw joint without doing this.

      We eye it with the piece the guide was attached to. You get used to it. No problem! More accurate than that guide.
