"This is a ball."
"A bowl?"
"No, that's close, its a ball."
Apollo is stunned by this revelation.
The way he asked is it was a bowl, sounded so cute and intelligent.
There's no way that bird is that intelligent!!! Did you hear the upward inflection on the word asked, "bowl?"? This insinuates that he was questioning himself. But how can one question oneself unless they are ,to a certain point, self-aware. ...or, aware of their own intelligence. This is a truly amazing thing to see.
@@ZeeFritoBandito African Grey parrots have already proven to be self-aware, that means they Pass the mirror-test.
I love how most of what you trained him to identify is common objects and colors, but you threw in Wario along with them
"What color is this?"
*Turn face
"black."
He's focusing on it!
His eyes are on the sides of his head, so he's getting a closer look.
The inflection when he seeks clarification is amazing. He actually forms questions with proper intonation. “This is a bowl?” Amazing.
hes so smart, i cant help but love him, and im TERRIFIED of birds. (watched the birds with my mom too many times, and i live 30 minutes from the church it was filmed at so ive always had an odd fear of them, then my cousins parakeets attacked me once and i was done with birds lol)
@@hollyshaw-elliemaeScared of birds is wild. You see them every morning 😂
@@Fathom3023 Why are people scared of bugs or spiders? You see them everyday.
I love how he hits it, doesn’t even try to lean in for a pistash, just looks at the camera and goes “glass”
I don't think bird vision works like that. When a person faces you, they're looking at you. When a bird faces you, they're looking at something to their side. I have no clue if that's entirely true, but I know how dog vision works and it's majorly different from people's.
@@jordohiz1493bro most bird's vision is superior to ours, they nearly see all around.
Why do I live for when Apollo turns to the camera and just says "Glass". How can one word and a bird be so funny adorable!
The way he said “this is a bowl?” He even got the tone of a question right
@@cleigh3796 yeah, in the correct tone to match a question, Which means he understands the context in which the tones are used, Which is more impressive than mere imitation
@@619VitalI think he's imitating "This is a bowl?" The way he heard his owner say it the first time. And positive reinforcement caused him to retain that tone, if you go to his other shorts he very rarely uses this tone with things owtber than the bowl, so that implies it was something he's imitating for the bowl specifically, not using the tone out of understanding.
Personal take
The way he changed his cadence and he thought bowl when you said ball was really intriguing, like even though birds don’t really have a tone or inflection, he straight up made it sound like a guess that he wasn’t even sure of, coolest bird ever.
Yeah, it felt so human. Like he was confused how the object in front of him was a bowl and he was checking to see if he misheard. I wonder if that was just a quirk in his delivery that time, or he honestly learned how to use inflection to turn a statement in a question?
@lskulski I have been reading up on African Greys since discovering Apollo's channel and in addition to their ability to learn a very wide vocabulary, it seems they are also absolutely able to learn some level of context in conversation. That makes it not too much of a stretch to think his inflection could be deliberate - that he knows he's asking a question and having learnt how questions sound, he is putting that knowledge into practice.. I'm no expert, though - just verbalising what makes sense to me.
That indeed is just always his cadence for the word bowl, but it worked perfectly for that scenario 😂
I really love the high inflection when he asks if it’s a bowl, just like how various other languages also have high inflections when someone asks a question.
"G L A S S"
I ❤ him 🥺
his 'BLACK' is just the best
Him looking back to Tori/camera when he pauses then answers always gets me lol
That’s my favorite word of his 🤣 it’s so funny the tone change when he says it
"this is a bowl?" - me in school when i didn't understand the question
It's insane how when he's unsure his voice lifts up ad the end of his sentence like a humans does. He really listens.
He is legit asking if he's right 😂
He is so smart and getting smarter every day!! He knows “G L A S S” is a fan favorite so he likes to turn straight to the camera to say it! 😂
😂 I truly laughed when he did that. The straight confidence of his head turn and delivery is something I aspire to
Would be great but he really doesn't know what a camera or any type of video recording device is. Or, that people watch it or probably even why they would.
He is smart for sure.
@@austint8263obviously Austin... Im pretty sure OP wasn't being serious 😅
It amazes me that he doesn't always answer with just one word. He uses full sentences. "This is a plant"
seems impressive but there isnt much comprehension occurring. for a bird its pretty cool though
@Solbashio I've lived with parrots since 1991. I assure you that many can comprehend in appropriate context what they are saying and also with their behaviors.
people always want to undermine other species intelligence without evidence to back their hypothesis. On the contrary, scientists are finally just beginning to investigate other species intelligence and are always surpassing expectations. Im curious as to how smart any of us would be without the accumulation of knowledge acquired and shared through the invention of writing that was enabled by our opposable thumbs over thousands of years
Every parrot owner has a book that they have sacrificed to the beak.
the tap on the glass to check if it is glass is soo cute
"It's a bowl?" ❤❤ Apollo is so eager.
Was this all the same session? He's so engaged today!
Yeah, this is all the same session. He's been doing amazing the past three days.
@@ApolloandFrenshappy to hear he's able to concentrate from all the trolling he does. 😄
@ApolloandFrens maybe his hormones are a bit calmer at the moment and providing a bit of mental clarity?
@@ApolloandFrens. Does he perform better at certain times of day or after certain things? Like is he very accurate after a shower 🚿 (makes him alert) or perhaps before eating (when he wants a snack)? I’m curious if you’ve noticed any patterns? Like improved accuracy in sunny warm weather? Or a lot of company? Do you keep notes 📝 ? Haha a lot of Qs! Sry! Apollo is awesome you two are so good with him!
The fact that Apollo took only one pistachio out of the jar is so cute and mind-blowing to me
The editing is immaculate
I love when he turns to the camera and answers like he’s proud.
That's so amazing. He even sounded confused when he thought the ball was a bowl. So cute.
Apollo is such a good bird ! Amazing ! Congrats to him and to his master !
I love when he dings the object with his beak. He doesn't have to, he just likes to.
It's part of how he identifies material, though sometimes he just likes to if it rings.
@@ApolloandFrensI just realized I don't think I've ever heard him say the color green. Is it just because it's physically near impossible with his anatomy or have you guys just never trained him on that one?
He stopped caring much about colors, so he hasn’t been working on those words much. He still chips away at orange occasionally, but he doesn’t bother with the rest for now. The “ee” may be difficult for him, I don’t think he says anything with it aside from “wario” and he doesn’t seem to hit it very well in that case.
@@noodles7157african greys are very much capable of saying all colors, even green, but it might be very challenging for them and they might not want to learn it
The fact that he ASKS "this is a bowl?" Not only does he understand how to ask for clarification, he understands how to use inflection in his words to convey a question. Remarkable.
he says bowl with that inflection literally every single time he says bowl - it doesn't mean he understands what a question is
@@raccoon1302 He definitely does not use that inflection everytime he says bowl
@@BingQiuSupremacy re-watch the video. He says it at least 4 times exactly with that inflection
@@a_literal_crow not sure why y'all are trying to gaslight me about this, it's even subtitled with a question mark two other times in the short

Apollo actually understanding what he says when trying to say ball is impressive, smart bird
Cannot tell you how complete it makes me feel knowing wario was a viable word option for his extended vocabulary 😂😂
Apollo could never forget Wario's name, he loves him❤😊
He should teach him to say „wario, my beloved“ when aski g him what the figure is
I never get old watch Apollo say random things he’s such a smart birdie 😊
I love how Apollo said, "this is a... bowl?". He sounds so genuine confused lmao.
he grabbed a pistachio so cutely
I don’t know what’s sweeter watching Apollo thrive or the closeness between him and Dalton. So sweet to watch they’re solid as a rrrooock
"whats this called?"
**block just falls apart and gives up**
"block"
The way he always turns towards the camera when he says "GLASS" always kills me. 😂
I love the way he says “plants!” He sounds like you made his entire day just by showing it to him.
We love to see a hardworking student thriving ❤
"This is a....bowl???" my heart melted when he said that. So cute.
He pronounced ball like *cabal*, that’s neat.
I’m glad that Apollo knows who Wario is.
He’s so cute. I love this clever little man
He is such a smart bird! And such a joy to watch! You have taught Apollo well and have great patience! Thanks for sharing!!!
I’m teaching my African grey colours and what things are made from. She touches her beak to things and she can distinguish between some colours but I’m just waiting for her to say the colours and things like glass and metal. Apollo is so clever.
oh neat, when he corrects his "ball" it has the same O sound as Apollo, like he's taking the aPOllo to say bALL. Such a smart bird, he brings a smile to my face every morning
I respect him for having the discipline to only grab one pistache out of the jar
I dont think he can handle more than 1 pistach. Its not like a squirrel where he has cheeck pouches and he cant leave it on any surface until Dalton picks it away anyway.
I love that he understands the inflection of asking a question
Meanwhile my cockatiel just screams at me 😭
Dalton looking like a proud father 🥺
I ACTUALLY LOVE HIM SO MUCH WHATTT
The book everytime its gets near apollo:"pls no no nooooo"
I love the way he says “this is a plants!” he’s so adorable I just wanna smush his little birb face! but I won’t 😅😍
I can imagine the neurons firing in his cute little bird head. He's getting so much better at recalling your teachings!
You are doing a fantastic job with Apollo, he’s so amazing😊
The way he turns to the camera and goes "glass."

I love how you both work together so well.
This is what the internet is for.. I cant wait to see more!
He knows his catchphrase is glass, breaking the fourth wall
Its amazing that he understands when you tell him to say it better
the fact he can actually have TONES is amazing
I adore the way he says "bowl" with that questioning inflection! Apollo is too precious.
Dalton, Tori, and Apollo are making history. This is such an honor to watch.
Given how long it took Alex the African grey to learn what he did, and how advanced Apollo is in his young age, it's no doubt Apollo will be regarded with the same significance in animal behavioral science history 🙏🙏
@@eddiegreif2715thing is if you look Alex, you tell he was stressed quite a bit by his missing feathers. Then look at Apollo who isn’t ripping out his feathers. Lower stress probably helps the learning process.

With the ball, I love the millisecond of the guy's excited look as Apollo quickly learned the ball. His excited reactions are just as welcome as Apollo's personality
The best ones are when he turns to the camera before answering.
I love the sound of Apollo's voice. Listening to him talk makes me smile inside!😊
He’s getting better and better
He knows it's Wario, but he still gives it the "Apollo pinch of approval"
He is such a good birb. So cute
Smartest bird ever. He even pronounces thing as a question.
That question marked ball surely was questioning YOU for offering a ball & he misheard you for saying bowl like “a bowl? Dalton this is a ball!”
Love his voice. He's so smart.
Love the voice change for plant.
He is so instructive with Apollo, this bird is amazingly smart and really loves learning new things! Those birds live to be 100 years old. Many outlive the people that care for them.

He's getting even better at words, you trained him well
He is really doing well. Dont stop training now! Kudos to you and Tori.

The fact that he applies inflection when asking questions is so cool to me, and further proof that its not a sequence of sounds and visual cues that Apollo has remembered, contrary to what some people believe. I wish I could shake his talon.
