Wow your broken button looks better than mine which was shattered into several little black pieces. They kept falling out like bad teeth. Could still shift into gears with my finger pushing in the spring or pushing down the inner silver button. Will replace part soon.
1:45 After I removed the handle, I was able to depress the metal piece and shift gears. Now....this same metal piece no longer fully depresses and I can no longer shift. Perhaps I need the entire assembly...
Q. Does the light on the gear selector or dash indicate park position.... if so, it is not the gear handle/ transmission. More likely the ignition switch.
Just did this repair today and got the same issue of my key not releasing from the ignition. The screws were too tightly torqued when putting it back together. I had to hold the handle as far up to align the screw holes in order for the knob to work and don't tighten the screws too much so that the sensor is not tripped thinking the car is not in park. Hope this helps...
Thank you for the no cost, easy fix. Truly a lifesaver.
Glad to have helped..

I can’t remove my key from ignition after removing gear shift handle. I have a 2000 Honda civic ex coupe.
I purchased brass rod and "pinned" the plastic together for a stronger joint with JB Weld. Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
Where can i get replacement screws? I bout another shifter knob and it came with the little pieces. Can i just use those?
THANK YOU * VERY HELPFUL.

Can we get that screws placed both side ?
Sir thank's for the video, other than that, I would have not been able to put it together
How much does a piece cost
Like 8 bucks off rockauto. But it's not in stock
I did that with mine put it started playing up
So I have this issue and it’s not wanting to shift into park
Will it shift into park with the handle off and pressing down with your thumb?? Like what I show at 01:47..
I did all this and my key won't release
Same here. Did you ever figure out why?
