    I have to say that i really like the idea of 25mm bases. At first glance i didn't liked it, but then i realise how often i had problem with positioning models in a unit. It will give more freedom with glueing. I am rebasing my old 6ed skaven army and looking forward to TOW :)

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před rokem +2

      I completely agree, I think it’s a really sensible move, and will solve so many problems. I think there’s a couple of examples where 20mm still worked, Goblins being one of those, but I think they still good.

      I’ve been working on a large goblin horde and have been using gw models for it. They’ll probably be used for mostly dnd, so I put them all on 25mm circle bases and I love how they have been setting on them.

    Horde armies should still be allowed 20mm bases, unless bigger basic base sizes are coming too, if goblins and skeletons are going to 25mm then chaos warriors and orcs should go up to 30mm.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před rokem

      They’ve said some 25mm bases will increase in size as well. As they’ve said being able to rank up is one of the main reasons for this, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that Chaos Warriors and Orcs will be among the ‘old 25s’ that do. Looking forward to the release of the base sizing doc they mentioned at Fest so we can find out what size they will be, think it could be a little while off yet though. By looking at the picture of the Bret Knights, I think it looks like a 39x60mm, there have been rumours around that match that as well, so I think 30mm squares is likely a good guess.

    I noticed that during painting the stuff that adds up to most time is switching between colors and fixing mistakes. That's easily 50-70% of the time actually spent on painting a model for me. The goblin looks amazing. I really need to check out contrast or equivalent pains at some point.

    IMO one of the things that i would do with models like this on a 25mm square base is to dont center the model i think (i hadnt try it) that if you scatter them you can give them an interesting irregular formation look like you would do on multibasing rather than the ordered covid formation
    But as i say is just an idea that i hadnt try

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před rokem

      That’s a really nice idea, if I was doing an army for myself I think I’d try that. Could work really well with mdf bases, them being tightly packed with no gaps due to the lip would enhance this effect I think.

    My approach to paint this sort of large project is to to test variations of the paint scheme (like different greys on the cloth, different way to paint the skin, drybrush different undertones...). Then tie things together by being consistent on the basing. It gives a more organic look as a whole and is less boring to do.

    My Orc boyz I have painted grid numbers on the bottom of bases because I built them dynamically working around previously built models, so they will only rank up one way. Bigger bases is probably for the best, will likely mean I can be more flexible with them!

    Personal preference entirely but this is way too dark a green for goblin skin imo. If you look at all the box art they tend to have this really pale, sickly green with bluish hues in the shades which is super hard (maybe impossible) to recreate with contrast paints. Great video otherwise for getting a good finish on painting a lot of goblins, just the skin that isn't right for me.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před rokem

      Thank you for the comments, I wasn’t really trying to match any particular box art, just offer one solution. Like you said, personal preference. There are quite a few lighter Contrast/Speedpaint/Xpress colour paints, so it’s definitely possible to go lighter with these paints. It’s also possible to highlight further to achieve a lighter effect as well. Appreciate your thoughts and input though, thank you.
