  • I’ve managed to single out my top 5 favourite WOW FACTORS about Princess Cruises’ Coral Princess. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

There is a lot to like about Coral Princess, so narrowing it down was a challenge!! I was lucky to cruise aboard Coral Princess in October 2022 as a guest of Princess Cruises; enabling me to share the experience with our Big Cruise Podcast audience, as well as experience Princess’ Medallion for the first time. While Princess provided the cruise, I wasn’t paid to make this video - but I want to add a huge thank you to the team at Princess for the opportunity to cruise on the ship.

Number 5, is the Coral Princess’ open decks. As a slightly older ship, Coral Princess benefits from some design traits that are becoming slightly rarer on some modern cruise ships. One of these features is her excellent open decks. The ship’s promenade, or boat deck, is a fully wrap around deck - and is clad in real teak wood which gives the ship an authentic cruise ship style, despite many aspects of the ship being quite modern. The decks offer a perfect vantage point for arrival and departures into port, and give a great view of the ship’s funky funnel that sports what looks like aircraft engines… to find out why check out my recent short video after this one!
Number 4 goes to Coral Princess’ Bayou Café. It’s immersive design features faux brick walls, Louisiana inspired murals, large windows and a fully stocked bar. In the evenings, the Bayou Café becomes an extra tariff restaurant, with a special menu inspired by Southern US cuisine. I was lucky enough to sample the Lobster and Crème Brulee from this menu - while the cheesy garlic bread was a showstopper - completely delicious.
Number 3 is the Princess Medallion, which I experienced for the first time aboard Coral Princess. The Medallion experience starts pre-embarkation, where the Princess app asks you to pre-fill all your embarkation information such as passport details, vaccination status, credit card details and so on. This means when I got to the port, the embarkation experience was smooth. In fact, it took only around 15 mins from curb to gangway on this cruise - which is impressive. Once aboard, the wearable is used to access your cabin, as well as order drinks from the bars - but you can also use your wearable to interact with large screens around the ship for navigation, to see what’s on, and to find your friends.
Number 2 for me has to be the Coral Princess’ Wheelhouse Bar, which is a treasure trove of maritime history and memorabilia. As Coral Princess was built in the early 2000s, the ship was designed during the P&O Princess era. P&O Princess was a large cruise line, formed by the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. It operated a variety of brands, including P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Aida, Arosa and Ocean Village. Because of this, there are various cross overs between the Princess and P&O brands, which can be seen in the Wheelhouse Bar. Memorabilia includes authentic items from past ocean liners, including ship’s bells, vintage marketing posters, model ships and other historic items. The Bar also features a large dance floor, lots of comfy seating, a well stocked bar and live music.
Number 1 on this voyage was the Coral Princess crew - who were absolutely superb. With cruising back after the pandemic, every crewmember I interacted with seemed excited, energetic and happy to be at work. The service was personalised and very attentive - with good attention to detail when interacting with crew at the bars, restaurants and up on deck. After the first 24 hours or so, bar staff in the Wheelhouse Bar could anticipate my favourite drink order, while the Matre d’ came and checked on my table each evening in the Bordeaux restaurant. But the real stand out for me was my cabin attendant, who introduced himself to me within the first minute of arriving at my cabin. He remembered my name every time we interacted - both near my cabin but also when I saw him at other parts of the ship. The cabin was kept in excellent condition, with a morning service and a turn down service in the evening. This kind of service is what really stands out, and is one of the things I love about cruising.
There was so much else to love about Coral Princess. Other notable mentions include the atrium area that is surrounded by bars and lounges; the two main show lounges offering a good variety of entertainment, the sports deck high atop the ship and the spacious balcony in my cabin - but this is a top 5 list, and the bar was very high for the 5 things that made the list.

We found the Coral Princess to be a fabulous ship. We loved the Lotus pool as great area to relax. Crew were absolutely amazing so you nailed that. All in all the size of the Coral was spot on

The ship is beautiful. I hope I will go on her some day. I like Princess' older ships with conservatory.

We have sailed on the Coral multiple times. She is our absolute favorite in the Princess Fleet. The #1 favorite item for us is The Sanctuary. We spend all our time there, it is a special cruise experience within the main cruise.

I was on the same cruise and enjoyed everything about the ship. The Bayou was an excellent experience, and I can heartily recommend those spicy prawns and the mussels. I'm back on her for the cruise from Sydney to Brisbane on 8th November. Looking forward to it.

Love the open deck on this ship. I miss this on the newer ships that fill every space with cabins or internal dining or cafe areas. I love that walk around and fresh air.

    1. The pools and spa warm and clean.
    2. The promenade wrap around open deck walk
    3. The crew
    4. The game and quiz shows run by Sarah and Josh, they are both little fire crackers
    5. The bed, although the pillows were way too soft the actual bed was amazing like sleeping on a cloud

Thanks. Great comment. I missed out on the memorial objects in Wheelhouse bar. I did two Coral Princess in Sep and Oct. One 5 days and one 13 days. Crew and food were superb. But night performance can be improved ie dont repeat the same performance twice on same voyage.

Our first cruise in 2005 was on the Island Princess from Vancouver to Whittier. Also transited the Panama Canal on it. Love this size of ship instead of the large ones. We especially love the dance floor in the Wheelhouse Bar. Haven't sailed on either the Island or Coral since they were refitted. After having done a total of 57 cruises before Covid, we've not sailed since.

  • @mandiigraham1596

Yes just came home from cruising the coral princess. I now call it the COVID Princess as there is a always cases on board.. 150 + by the end of our cruise. They ended up being short staffed and staff had to do double or triple jobs. They did a great job while still being able to be chesty. I hope the company rewards them for their hard work. I agree about the staff, all were very friendly and greeted you every time they passed your way. Well except for officers who don’t seem to want to mix with the passengers and the one sour female in guest services.
I didn’t know that the promenade deck was wider than others as this was my first big ship cruise. So yes I loved that and it sure got used by many passengers, including me. Much better than being in the fitness centre, but that was nice too. Very modern and well equiped.
Restaurant food was great and room service menu although limited was far better than the food court. Coffee though was like mud so glad I brought my own. I was surprised at drink prices and prices of items in the shops. Yes higher as you would expect but not overly and defiantly wait till the last few days of the cruise to buy things as they have decent discounts (but not on everything) and sometimes with free drinks.
I will give you a warning though, check you account after every purchase or at least keep a mindful record and check everyday. It seemed to be a habit of mysterious charges popping up our Journey Account. They will fix it but only if you bring it to their attention. Some past passengers have said that trying to get it remedied after you disembark is like getting blood from a stone.
The ship was supposed to be refurbished but I can’t see where. Well I will have a guess and say it was replacing the TV to a wall mounted flat screen. Everything else looked aged and who came up with the decor of varying shades of brown. Here is another tip. Deck 12 seems to be the only deck with covered balcony. Was happy to have that as we could sit outside in all weather and not get sunburn. Just don’t pick a cabin under the pool as the chairs get moved around at 5 am an it kept waking me up.

Thanks for the 5. We have a 32 day booked here in Oct. I was disappointed, however, that the 2nd item on your list was an extra cost eatery. Tacky.

    • @ChrisFrameOfficial
      @ChrisFrameOfficial  Před 3 měsíci +2

Thanks! You can of course do a cruise without the add-on restaurants but you’re not really getting the full Princess experience in 2024 without adding on some of the extra restaurants and packages to experience the variety of offerings on board. It’s unfortunate that cruising is more and more going this way, but within the context of the reality we live in these days I felt that this restaurant’s design, theming and menu was worth the list. Hope you enjoy the trip. 32 days is a wonderfully long voyage you’ll definitely know the ship better than I do by the time you disembark.
