    Teach I must give it to you,you did your research and homework before all of your interviews. Most of the people you have interviewed were before your time yet you are as comfortable and knowledgeable as if you were a witness to those era! That is why you are the teacher. I can’t even begin to thank and commend you for giving these foundation artists who contributed so much to the music and culture yet were never rewarded financially. Your work will serve,teach and preserve the real history of the music and the incredible artists behind it. Continued blessings and growth my friend,your work is appreciated more than you will ever know.

      @punanny123 Před 2 lety +4

      I was thinking the exact same thing. When I think of Jaro I think of Early B, Cat, Twitch, Dirty Harry/ UU Maddo and Ainsley not the dub plate juggling Jaro (maybe showing my age). Puddy needed more original songs and stage shows but I cannot put him above other singers who used to sing on sound in the 80's like Half Pint, Junior Reid, Nitty Gritty, Michael Palmer, Don Carlos, Sugar Minott , Frankie Paul, etc.

    Greetings Teach Dem! All the very best to you. Your work is wonderful!! As for Puddy Roots, he's a humble youth. He use to deal with a princess named "Elena" the niece of "Justin Hinds" a famous 60's Artiste, and lead singer of "The Dominoes". One of his hit songs, which may've been by the same title, was inspired by her as a child. (Justin's sister, is Helena's mother). As for Puddy, he was a child star to us on Arrows Hifi. I had never chant on the mike but had hoped to. His voice was so nice on the mike. When I had started hearing Sister Nancy about 10 yrs later, she seems to remind me of the great Puddy Ranks. I didn't know how he had gotten the name though, and didn't ask him. Bobby Reds, from the East a up and coming tough looking youth, whom I used to admire in those earlier years, had talked on the mike also and he and a few of his friends names would be announced, in some dances, once they were recognized. They were young teenagers in those times. Puddy Roots and Sister Nancy's voices were unique on sound systems to me. Arrows HiFi was the talk then. I think that "Crutches" may have been jealous at times when Puddy takes the mike. Puddy was our Michael Jackson in the early 70's. One night at a dance in Little cooper, not too long after about 12:00am. an Alton Ellis selection called "Hurting Me" was played. Arrows turntablist played the version of which the dub music was been heard without a vocal. Puddy didn't care for the consequences at this time as this was one of the militant dances, so Puddy lashed out at a rude boy police who wasn't present at the party but had seem to be a regular headache whenever a dance is in session with ones wearing dreadlocks. Puddy seem to have taunted him by deejaying these lyrics : "Ah me seh Tracy ah bwoy, ......an a dat yuh fe know!" " Ah me seh Tracy a bwoy,...... an a dat yuh nuh know!" just as what the bassline of the song had seem to be saying. But, low and behold, Tracy, who may have being a Sargent at the time, and may have been lurking somewhere nearby, suddenly appears while everyone was laughing and dancing in support of Puddy's lyrics, and shut down the sound system and mash up/mash down the dance. The dance ended early and a short time of fun transformed into a long night of sadness. Outside of that incident, it seem that Arrows was a victim to the police in the East. The turntablist seem to be a gentleman but his music seem to have attract only badmen. There would hardly be women in the party, as they seem to be somewhat afraid of what type of men would be attending. It usually was called a "bull party/dance." maybe named by the police. Arrows HiFi was the King of the East at the time. Its previous owner was Prince Patrick. It was a unique sound Islandwide at the time also.. Those were the "cassette and Tape" era. I was a staunch dancehall attendee in those times and had narrowly escaped death on many occasions as others may have too. The shooters and intentional shooters were just worthless beasts in human formations, that it seems, has had nothing else that they would prefer or rather do. I am so glad, Teach Dem, that I had never wish to be a member or become an unfortunate victim of that killing crew. Keep up the good work, TEACH DEM, and don't change from being you!
