  • Since 2015, AWS has been innovating on multiple services that help organizations remove the undifferentiated heavy lifting in running containerized applications. From Amazon ECS and AWS Fargate to AWS Elastic Beanstalk and AWS App Runner, each service provides a unique abstraction with varying levels of control over the underlying infrastructure. They offer a sophisticated architecture with common core underpinnings across all services. Attend this session to learn how the product ideas evolved from one service to the next and how the underlying architecture has evolved to support this wide array of container offerings.

Excellent presentation. The slides showing the shift in responsibility (AWS vs Customer) across the services EC2 -> ECS -> Fargate -> App Runner is terrifically clear; I wish other AWS docs on Fargate and App Runner would use these to explain the abstractions.

I love Firecracker because… it’s made in RUST. Open sourced too! Rust rust rust

I hope App Runner is going to get more powerful going forward, or is it meant that we should use AWS Co-pilot for a better experience? As right now it can't even build a Dockerfile on its own which is astronomically annoying as you are locked into what runtimes you support.

Sorry to hear about your experience, Andreas. 😔 If you'd like, you can share feature requests, and issues you're facing via our App Runner GitHub: go.aws/3OtG8p5. Alternatively, You can find options to send feedback directly to our App Runner team here: go.aws/feedback.💭
Also, this may be a great question to share with our community of engineers on re:Post for some more insight: go.aws/aws-repost. 📌 ^RN
