    We have come a long way since 1869 when Leland Standford joined the trans continental RR with the gold spike. These machines are amazing. There are a lot of smart people out there!!

      Richard Evans,it's nice to dream,but but me Father aalwis used ti say.."Somebody has ti win Son!"...[as he filled the football pools coupons in, from as early as I remember,certainly as far back as the early 1950's ]...well,he DID win once,but so did a million other people around the country,cos there was a load of draws in the league tables that week..so he won about a Pound in old money!!He gambled the pound on the horses,so ended up dying virtually penniless...but the bookies died rich!!
      Yeah,somebody has to win...and it might be you!...Be great to see somebody using the cash for a project like that!!..hope you do win Mate!

    Bolted rails not as smooth as long continuous rails. More wrecks with bolted rails and usually slower speeds allowed, if regulated by government.

      This technology was used on the Trans Gabonese railway nearly forty years ago the biggest earth moving and civil engineering contract in the world at the time , it was called the Dinosaur .

    The latest technology has reduced the man power. Also the work is done saving the time, as well work force goes as fast to the maximum completion of the work finished within less time. Awesome Discovery of the mechanism. No technical defaults, everything is in perfect order.

      cuts rock and dirt from ends of ties dumps into a shaker .shakes dirt and small rocks on to a conveyor .which throws it away from track .dumps good rock back on track .This is to drain water from track so dump will not get soft spot and let track sink

      It’s called a shoulder cleaner. They usually run along with a ditcher. Digs just past the end of the ties because that’s where your movement is. Then it spits the bad ballast off to the end of the ballast line.

    At the end, I'm puzzled by new rail being laid down alongside existing rail. Is the existing rail being replaced? If so, one would think it would be easier to remove it first. Some onscreen or voiceover explanations would help this otherwise interesting video.

      Its not the modern way of tracklaying, modern tracks are build without gravel and ties and the rails sitting on an concrete foundation

      the gray ones were made of concrete. the regular ties are wood soaked in creosote
