If I’m ever in a situation where me and my long-lost japanese partner have to do a dance of deduction to find his judge friend for him to testify in court about a case that occurred over 10 years ago to convict the current lord chief justice of Britain i’ll definitely play this in the background.
I think I like this rendition better because it has Mikotaba's tippity tappity toes alongside Sholme's violin. It was such a joy to see the duo back in action! :D
That's a weird feeling considering we never actually see them together before, and yet the music makes you think that you have, and you're just belated to see two partners back at it together.

It's the subtle changes that make it perfect. Music has a bigger impact than we realize sometimes! And that's why i will never stop praising Kitagawa, his work is breathtaking

Plot twist: it's Jigoku in the chest thumping the back, and you're hearing the acoustics from inside. But in all seriousness, the second tap dancer is almost guaranteed to be Susato. If her dad has the moves, what's to say she doesn't too?
after dealing with sholmes being a bufoon for two games it was nice of them to show that he was more doing that for ryu's sake. when he is with his partner we get the real deal.
You can definitely see that even early on. When its time to be serious he knows what to do. He basically gives Ryu all the little pushes he needs at the conclusion of episode 2 in the first game
Hes doing that because he needed Ryu to take down the big bad guy in the end from the inside, Sherlock holmes is an outcast to the justice system. Plus he didnt have his partner he couldnt possibly take down the bad guy alone.
This scene made me realize this Ace Attorney game was special. It hits your emotions in a different way. Since completing the whole series, this game served a grand finale and made me realize it is simply the best.
I like how the fandom uses Homles and Shlomes interchangeably. I think it's because a good chunk of people realize how stupid the copyright issue was and just kind of accept it as is. He is Holmes but the idea that his name is Shlomes does kinda fit the maverick approach this take on the character uses.
Nah, it's Sholmes. This guy is basically nothing like Sherlock Holmes. Completely different appearance and personality. But that's OK, because this is Herlock Sholmes, he's his own thing. He's got a goofy comedic twist that fits perfectly with this wonderful franchise and the name reflects that fantastically.

They couldn't use his actual name internationally because of, annoyingly, copyright issues. Apparently, the people who own the rights to Sherlock are EXTREMELY strict with how you can use him. To get around this issue, a lot of people end up using the alternative name, Herlock Sholmes. There is an entire video on this exact thing, if you are interested.
@@sloppyphart7879 Also, you say he is nothing like Sherlock Holmes but if you read the Sherlock Holmes books, you would see that the original Sherlock Holmes was actually a cocaine addict who got so caught up in his deductions, that almost no one could understand him. He also constantly played with guns and often did weird things with no explanation. While Ace Attorney exaggerated these traits, he was always a genius who was reckless and quirky.
I think the big reveals of the final case of Investigations 2 are way too powerful to be overcome, but this sure comes close! Seriously, the entire duology never gave you any direct reason to doubt that Sholmes's partner was Wilson; the daughter of his old partner goes by Wilson for Pete's sake! But *nope!* The entire time everyone but Sholmes was working off of wrong assumptions without ever realizing it, then the truth is revealed and it's *glorious!*
"So get your coat Mikotoba, the game is afoot!" The instant I read that line, and this theme kicked in, just wow. Felt like Sholmes was finally ready to kick things into high gear after goofing off the whole game, and then that final dance of deduction, _damn._
this song *feels* like a conversation, a back and forth, while the previous dances of deduction weren't, I guess that makes the song hit harder when you notice it. it's mainly the violins having a repeating bit- idk hard to explain, but god damn this song is good
Despite never seeing these 2 characters interact until the end of the game, Ace Attorney knows how to make you feel like you've always seen them together. I can confidently call him Sherlock Holmes now. I know in the Japanese version he IS Holmes, and in the original stories Holmes IS a goofball. But it wasn't until that final Dance of Deduction where I could really say "Yeah. This is the legendary detective." Having Watson/Mikotoba there to complete the duo solidified it. Now I need to actually read the real stories and envision them in Ace Attorney's world with Watson as Mikotoba.

The reason you can feel like you always saw them together is because, in a sense, you have. You've been Sholmes' "Watson" the whole time, minus the tapdancing. Ryu and Susato follow along the cues and blow the mystery wide open in the form of a "dance", while being the "straight man" to Sholmes' goofiness.

@@12345678abracadabra It definitely is, just listen to the solos of the main instruments. They even said who the violin and accordion players are. Granted, I'm not sure about the accompanying instruments, but they certainly sound real enough to me.
This version is so good but the epicness of the original one fits better witht he events of Resolve. This is what I imagine would feature in a Prequel featuring the young Holmes and Watson whose design you can see in the bonuses. I just saw them and realized just how much I need this!
This song captures such an interesting combination of moods in that it feels both like a climactic confrontation as well as a nostalgic reunion at once definitely one of the best songs in AA history

The one use in the revelation on Resolve is nothing short of amazing most memorable moment well worth for entire journey. but this bring different meaning after all, this give you fully appriciation for the true meaning of the Legendary Partner!

I'd love that😍 But even if I would love love loooove this arrangement to be their theme from back on the day, this particular version of "Partner~The game is afoot" has a lil' too much of Ryuunosuke and Kazuma on it. While the OG Partners theme also had "Prelude to Resolve" (which is a Ryuunosuke theme) elements on it, they are more noticeable here, like in 1:46, and there's also Kazuma's theme being rocked out at high speed in the accordion in 2:50. I think Kitagawa meant with his *wink wink, nudge nudge, what two people could it possibly be???* that this arrangement is both representative of Herlock and Mikotoba duo of partners, and the Ryuunosuke and Kazuma duo of partners.

I do understand why it wasn't used in the game, tho, it's a banger already, and if an even better arrangement were played, it would be even more distracting. And 2) My personal interpretation this song, or rather, this arrangement in particular. I get pretty analitycal, so it's long, sorry (⭐ALSO, SPOILERS AHOY, CAREFUL!!!⭐) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . While the original arrangement of 'Partners~the game is afoot!' is definitely, without a doubt, about S/Holmes and his one and only partner, I'm considerably sure that this version is not only about the OG Legendary Aibous, but about the Next Gen Legendary Aibous, Ryuunosuke and Kazuma. In Kitagawa's "clues" regarding who this song is supposed to represent, he goes out of his way to point out that there's two tap dancers, so it's supposed to be specifically about an established pair in canon, and then, he asks the audience to make sure to think about all possible combinations of people it could be. While this alone works as a clue directing to the OG Partners ™, as that's the connection the audience will immediately make upon hearing this version, seeing that it both has S/Holmes theme integrated like in the OG arrangement AND now it has tap dancing, which Mikotoba does in That One Iconic Scene™, if you listen closely, you'll see this version also has both something symbolizing Ryuu and Kaz: overall, there's Ryuunosuke's "Resolve theme" here, like how it was in the OG song, but here, there's way more of his "Resolve theme" present, hell, take a look at that beautiful 1:45-1:57!!! Then, the song takes a sort of "pause" for the tap solo, obviously, but immediately after that, there's Kazuma's theme played on the accordion in 2:50. This Kazuma section and Ryuunosuke section of the song are both exclusive to this arrangement, and that, combined with Kitagawa's "think of e v e r y possible combination that would fit", makes me believe that this version is supposed to be for both sets of Partners™, Kitagawa teasingly asks "who are the two dancers?", and in this case, there seems to be 2 answers: Sholmes & Mikotoba, and Ryuunosuke & Kazuma. As a side note, the fact that Ryuu's theme is more prevalent here + there's Kaz's theme integrated could also be one of the reasons it wasn't used in the game, as That One Scene With the Partners™ exists and they probably needed something that focused more in the OG Partners. I guess if the game was longer, or there was a 3rd installment, this arrangement could be used in a climatic scene, either one were we see Ryuu and Kaz explicitly work together to solve a case, most likely also doing a Dance of Deduction/Theater of Logic and Reasoning, thus reinforcing the already present parallels between this Partners and the Legendary Partners, or one were the players have to do TWO Dances of Deduction at the same time in different places, and have to jump POV between Ryuunosuke feat. Kazuma and Mikotoba feat. Sholmes, while this version of the song plays, as it fits all 4 of this characters. Phew, that was long! I like that idea of two dances of deduction, but I could also see it being used in a climactic case at the end of this "3rd game" where Sholmes dies, and you have to defend Mikotoba. It's like carrying on the legacy, in a way, for one last dance. If you really want to make a spectacle out of it, involve everybody and do the two dances like you mentioned. While Runo and Kazuma (and hell, maybe Barok if he continues his character arc to be a better person) are dancing to prove Mikotoba's innocence, somewhere else, Iris, Gina and Susato are dancing to find the killer.
100% agreed. This and the person who said tap dancer 2 was Genshin Asogi totally convinced me (Mikotoba as tap dancer 1, Sholmes at the violin.) A part of me perceive that theme as what would have played if we had seen a dance of deductions from the Original Aibou™ back in the days (Genshin adding himself here because he could. It must have happened ONCE at least), but another part of me immediately thought of Ryuu and Kazuma as well. I guess it could also be used as the theme for those two when they'll tear up the streets of London together, as a parallel for how Sholmes and Mikotoba did before as you say.
It's been a while since this game came out and I would like to express my thoughts of the music along with what it symbolizes to me. At first I could help but mistrust Yujin. With what I read in the Wikipedia at that time when it was just a 3ds exclusive in Japan only confused as all heck I definitely sensed something about Susato's father, Yujin, that I could not shake, a feeling of distrust, especially in case one of the second game. I also in a way felt Yujin's words to Ryunosuke were hollow at least to me as like Ryunosuke I felt Yujin was just looking at Kazuma though Yujin says that he praised Ryunosuke with a proposal for Ryunosuke to come back to Japan. But when Ryunosuke at the end of case 4 of the second game deduces that Sholmes' partner was in fact Yujin, Susato's father, and was right I was shocked and dumbfounded. It was when Susato said to her Father, "I trust you completely," that I could too and also his words to Ryunosuke were true. When playing as Yujin in the boat scene I had a big grin on my face to witness the dynamic duo of Herlock Sholmes and Yujin Mikotoba. Yujin's tap dancing as he figures out Sholmes' logic was great as the song plays. To me I was glad that Yujin Mikotoba, Susato's father was a great character in the end and one I definitely did not expect to root for but did.
I like to think that Sholmes treats his dance of deduction as some sort of theatrical play where he plays the role of Logic, while Mikotoba plays the role of Reason
So people are pointing out that parts of Kazuma’s theme can be heard, and while you’re right, it’s likely supposed to represent Genshin, and consider this too In the original Holmes stories there is both inspector Gregson and inspector Lestrade right? Well in Mikotoba’s original manuscripts someone else had to fill that role (some of Iris’s stories are clear references to stories that feature him) so I’d like to posit the theory that Genshin used to investigate with the duo on occasion He was in Britain studying to be an investigator after all
Gregson was still an inspector back then, evidenced by the old photo. It's likely he appeared from time to time during the six years mikotoba was in london. Iris only started publishing the stories around the time she learned of "Watson", so about a year or two before the events of the game. It's possible Iris would start to interchange the two going forward after Gina took up the badge.
@@danielsher5439 true, but considering Gregson doesn’t actually seem to know Holmes all that well, so it’d be a stretch, and it also just makes more sense AND is more emotional that way, but perhaps the Lestrade/Gregson thing is exactly that: Genshin and Gregson, and Iris will use Gina to fill the stories featuring Genshin she had put off adapting for this reason, who knows?
@@1234tntom1234 I don't see how its a stretch when its literally confirmed Gregson's been around for that long, as well as Sholmes having an established relationship with Scotland Yard in the first game. He also mentions that he knows and dislikes Sholmes prior to Ryunosuke's arrival, which is enough evidence for me. Plus Gregson/Lestrade literally started the writing trope of the "incompetent yet well liked detective" (Think Gumshoe), which doesn't seem to fit Genishin's image at all. Sure in headcanon maybe he did investigate with them but for him to be synonymous with Gregson in the stories seems unnecessary to me.

This version is so good but the epicness of the original one fits better witht he events of Resolve. This is what I imagine would feature in a Prequel featuring the young Holmes and Watson whose design you can see in the bonuses. I just saw them and realized just how much I need this!

This game might just be the peakest of peak storytelling i've ever seen in a video game
This song captures such an interesting combination of moods in that it feels both like a climactic confrontation as well as a nostalgic reunion at once definitely one of the best songs in AA history
I just realised how many small details are in this cover that is missed unless you've already played the game, like Klint next to Gregson, and even Genshin in the bottom left corner
Also Gregson and Benedict are looking very slyly at each other (if you know you know) and Stronghart is looking at the scales (if you know you know)

I'd love that😍 But even if I would love love loooove this arrangement to be their theme from back on the day, this particular version of "Partner~The game is afoot" has a lil' too much of Ryuunosuke and Kazuma on it. While the OG Partners theme also had "Prelude to Resolve" (which is a Ryuunosuke theme) elements on it, they are more noticeable here, like in 1:46, and there's also Kazuma's theme being rocked out at high speed in the accordion in 2:50. I think Kitagawa meant with his *wink wink, nudge nudge, what two people could it possibly be???* that this arrangement is both representative of Herlock and Mikotoba duo of partners, and the Ryuunosuke and Kazuma duo of partners.

1) I McFreakin' love this song in general, but this is my favorite version. The added tap dancing?!?!?? Perfection. I do understand why it wasn't used in the game, tho, it's a banger already, and if an even better arrangement were played, it would be even more distracting.

While the original arrangement of 'Partners~the game is afoot!' is definitely, without a doubt, about S/Holmes and his one and only partner, I'm considerably sure that this version is not only about the OG Legendary Aibous, but about the Next Gen Legendary Aibous, Ryuunosuke and Kazuma. In Kitagawa's "clues" regarding who this song is supposed to represent, he goes out of his way to point out that there's two tap dancers, so it's supposed to be specifically about an established pair in canon, and then, he asks the audience to make sure to think about all possible combinations of people it could be.
While this alone works as a clue directing to the OG Partners ™, as that's the connection the audience will immediately make upon hearing this version, seeing that it both has S/Holmes theme integrated like in the OG arrangement AND now it has tap dancing, which Mikotoba does in That One Iconic Scene™, if you listen closely, you'll see this version also has both something symbolizing Ryuu and Kaz: overall, there's Ryuunosuke's "Resolve theme" here, like how it was in the OG song, but here, there's way more of his "Resolve theme" present, hell, take a look at that beautiful 1:45-1:57!!! Then, the song takes a sort of "pause" for the tap solo, obviously, but immediately after that, there's Kazuma's theme played on the accordion in 2:50.
This Kazuma section and Ryuunosuke section of the song are both exclusive to this arrangement, and that, combined with Kitagawa's "think of e v e r y possible combination that would fit", makes me believe that this version is supposed to be for both sets of Partners™, Kitagawa teasingly asks "who are the two dancers?", and in this case, there seems to be 2 answers: Sholmes & Mikotoba, and Ryuunosuke & Kazuma.
As a side note, the fact that Ryuu's theme is more prevalent here + there's Kaz's theme integrated could also be one of the reasons it wasn't used in the game, as That One Scene With the Partners™ exists and they probably needed something that focused more in the OG Partners.
I guess if the game was longer, or there was a 3rd installment, this arrangement could be used in a climatic scene, either one were we see Ryuu and Kaz explicitly work together to solve a case, most likely also doing a Dance of Deduction/Theater of Logic and Reasoning, thus reinforcing the already present parallels between this Partners and the Legendary Partners, or one were the players have to do TWO Dances of Deduction at the same time in different places, and have to jump POV between Ryuunosuke feat. Kazuma and Mikotoba feat. Sholmes, while this version of the song plays, as it fits all 4 of this characters.

I like that idea of two dances of deduction, but I could also see it being used in a climactic case at the end of this "3rd game" where Sholmes dies, and you have to defend Mikotoba. It's like carrying on the legacy, in a way, for one last dance. If you really want to make a spectacle out of it, involve everybody and do the two dances like you mentioned. While Runo and Kazuma (and hell, maybe Barok if he continues his character arc to be a better person) are dancing to prove Mikotoba's innocence, somewhere else, Iris, Gina and Susato are dancing to find the killer.
100% agreed. This and the person who said tap dancer 2 was Genshin Asogi totally convinced me (Mikotoba as tap dancer 1, Sholmes at the violin.)
A part of me perceive that theme as what would have played if we had seen a dance of deductions from the Original Aibou™ back in the days (Genshin adding himself here because he could. It must have happened ONCE at least), but another part of me immediately thought of Ryuu and Kazuma as well.
I guess it could also be used as the theme for those two when they'll tear up the streets of London together, as a parallel for how Sholmes and Mikotoba did before as you say.
ALSO A SCENE ALTERNING BETWEEN THE TWO PAIRS WOULD BE INSANE. Now I wish for a third came to conclude that trilogy more than ever.
It's been a while since this game came out and I would like to express my thoughts of the music along with what it symbolizes to me.
At first I could help but mistrust Yujin. With what I read in the Wikipedia at that time when it was just a 3ds exclusive in Japan only confused as all heck I definitely sensed something about Susato's father, Yujin, that I could not shake, a feeling of distrust, especially in case one of the second game.
I also in a way felt Yujin's words to Ryunosuke were hollow at least to me as like Ryunosuke I felt Yujin was just looking at Kazuma though Yujin says that he praised Ryunosuke with a proposal for Ryunosuke to come back to Japan.
But when Ryunosuke at the end of case 4 of the second game deduces that Sholmes' partner was in fact Yujin, Susato's father, and was right I was shocked and dumbfounded. It was when Susato said to her Father, "I trust you completely," that I could too and also his words to Ryunosuke were true.
When playing as Yujin in the boat scene I had a big grin on my face to witness the dynamic duo of Herlock Sholmes and Yujin Mikotoba. Yujin's tap dancing as he figures out Sholmes' logic was great as the song plays.
To me I was glad that Yujin Mikotoba, Susato's father was a great character in the end and one I definitely did not expect to root for but did.

So people are pointing out that parts of Kazuma’s theme can be heard, and while you’re right, it’s likely supposed to represent Genshin, and consider this too
In the original Holmes stories there is both inspector Gregson and inspector Lestrade right? Well in Mikotoba’s original manuscripts someone else had to fill that role (some of Iris’s stories are clear references to stories that feature him) so I’d like to posit the theory that Genshin used to investigate with the duo on occasion
He was in Britain studying to be an investigator after all
Gregson was still an inspector back then, evidenced by the old photo. It's likely he appeared from time to time during the six years mikotoba was in london. Iris only started publishing the stories around the time she learned of "Watson", so about a year or two before the events of the game. It's possible Iris would start to interchange the two going forward after Gina took up the badge.
@@danielsher5439 true, but considering Gregson doesn’t actually seem to know Holmes all that well, so it’d be a stretch, and it also just makes more sense AND is more emotional that way, but perhaps the Lestrade/Gregson thing is exactly that: Genshin and Gregson, and Iris will use Gina to fill the stories featuring Genshin she had put off adapting for this reason, who knows?
@@1234tntom1234 I don't see how its a stretch when its literally confirmed Gregson's been around for that long, as well as Sholmes having an established relationship with Scotland Yard in the first game. He also mentions that he knows and dislikes Sholmes prior to Ryunosuke's arrival, which is enough evidence for me.
Plus Gregson/Lestrade literally started the writing trope of the "incompetent yet well liked detective" (Think Gumshoe), which doesn't seem to fit Genishin's image at all. Sure in headcanon maybe he did investigate with them but for him to be synonymous with Gregson in the stories seems unnecessary to me.
