The Dune universe is beyond fantastic, and the new movies are pure art.

I plan on playing it anyway, because of the tech they are pouring into to help bring the world alive, the systems seem to be well flushed out and their working hand in hand with the movie production studio partly in real time to its filming. Plus they've been extremely transparent about development and vision of the game and seem to be fans of this genre as well. Regardless of so called "Success" in today's gaming industry terms I'll be playing this specifically on my PC so I can get the most out of the world and options.
Funcom is the same group that did Conan exiles, which is still a very generously well designed survival offering in solo and multiplayer online. I’m excited.

Saddly game seems to be another survival with Dune skin over it, I would have loved that they made a more close experience
They made Conan exiles
They are also working closely with the Herbert estate
They originally wanted to let nukes go off when you shoot each other. They made it a mechanic and functional. But it ruined the experience for everyone but the player who was good at shooting. The got permission to write an explanation why nukes don't go off from the Herbert estate and workedd with them to write one into their universe for Dune. They are working on the lore closely with them.
They also said this is their own universe but are paying homage to the books, all the movies and the sci Fi show and using them as inspiration for different aspects of the game.
Conan exiles may not be your type of game but it's one of the best survival games and actually does justice to the Conan universe.
If this studio brings their experience and passion to this game then I have hope for it

@@michaeloswal9847 it was good. At launch very unstable and buggy. But it's a great game. One of the best survival games in solo, co-op and multiplayer. It may not be for you but it's a good game. Their explanations were worth the money if you bought them.
Honestly a survival game skinned to dune sounds good to me though
they did Conan exiles which I think is a very fun game, so I'm excited

Nukes originally were a mechanic but ruined fhe experience for everyone except the player who was good at shooting
So they are working closely with the herbert estate to make a grounded lore and got permission to write an explanation in their universe why nukes don't constantly go off.
They also have sand walking as a mechanic but in tests the player looks awkwardly rigged so they wont have it in till they fix that.
you are writing about nukes but I think you mean why laser weapons dont trigger nuclear reaction when they hit shield right?

Kind of wish they had worked more at making it a punishing experience for all parties involved, like a nuke going off in the middle of all the important stuff you’re trying to conquer would be. Like, destroy the spice, destroy resources, hell make the shooter explode alongside the shield user. I worry it’s gonna take a lot of flavor out of it otherwise.
@@buschachathey said they made it a mechanic but in very early tests players hated it except the player who was good at shooting. Even then it would destroy anything and would just be fun for the throll. So they wrote a lore reason with the Herbert estate why guns don't set off nukes and why there are vehicles.
I hope they take their time with it, dune is a genuinely amazing book so I hope they get it right.
This could be great, but not holding my breath. If they say MMO, it brings certain things usually. One of my favorite book series. I've always wanted a good game. I'm hopeful!
You can't expect more than what makes sense for the world of Dune to be implemented. There's only so much they can expand on and also create that would be unique outside of the movie adaptations and books just to please Millennials/Gen-Z crowds who think they know what the "perfect formula" is
if you've played The Secret World and Conan Exiles (2 of their games) you will already have the idea of what they are planning to do and I am here for it!

As someone who like survival games I am pretty neutral on this game, I think the later political aspect of the game could be unique and innovative. The developer is right that survival games sort of burn out once you reach the thrive stage and you really don't have to do much surviving (and not much to do in the end game). If there is some sort of end game where there are linear levels / dungeons / raids that you can go in to and then return to the survival experience with loot and resources from those levels that could be interesting. Either way I like how ambitious this game sounds, but whether it is good or not will all be in the execution!
Thanks, Luke, for the video. I'm a huge fan of the Dune universe but at least at this point in time it just isn't grabbing me. Like you said, some visuals and examples of gameplay would help. But then on the other hand, I'm not ready to jump into another MMO. I'm sure many are but I'm sure there are others like me who are 'been there, done that' when it comes to the MMO scene. I really appreciate your content. You're one of the first channels I check out for new games. Please keep up the awesome work!
Mutant year zero was a great little game
Funcom originally made the MMORPG CONAN.. which had limited success because World of WARCRAFT was already gaining momentum and Funcom was a newbie in this space.. CONAN exiles is still one of the most successful survival co-op games with years of experience.. also has one of the best combat systems for PvP / Survival. They have the experience now.. worth anticipating how they handle DUNE
Will it survive managed democracy?
Many of the games listed on their website are not developed by them but published including the other Dune 4X game, they did however work on my MMOs like Anarchy Online for example.
I don't care for live-service much and definitely not MMOs but I might give it a try if it turns out to be good and not just a waste of time (aka disrespecting the time of players, too grindy, boring gameplay,...)
I am very exited new big survival game.and very good that it will be available also for consoles on lauch.most of survival games are PC exclusives.I would just hope it would have been pve and not pvp.

I think this speaks to the great marketing of Hogwarts legacy, funco taking pages out of HL playbook via these little directs, it worked well for WB on HL sales while also letting us players get to know the game inside out b4 purchase. CIG still does this now with star citizen (MMO), keeps ppl engaged. Tbh i enjoy these little videos and this dune game looks great, visually stunning w troves of unreals new tech, i hope it slaps!!

As long as its not online only, has coop where you can explore with friends on a save (no random griefters) and there are npcs and all content can be enjoyed solo, im down.

Regarding wanting to live in the Dune universe... who would want to live there, realistically? It's a miserable place full of feudal politics, violence and control. Even if you're part of a big house you're still forced to serve your house, there is no freedom, you're constantly on the watch for attempts on your life. And let's not talk about the 3500 years of Leto II's reign and the scattering that followed. If you're lucky you're just some nobody slaving your days away on Caladan so you at least don't get cooked in the sun during the day... or imagine landing up on Giedi Prime...

I hope this game has politics and choice similar to star wars KOTOR and maybe gameplay like hell divers 2 i want to be hyped but i wont allow myself to.
I am kind of intrigued by this but my BS meter is flaring up. cause this is the type of stuff they pulled while promoting Gotham knights (grind mess). the question were great but the answers weren't clear. in the best case scenario we get Forbidden west x Fortnite. also i hate the floaty physics these live service games bring (maybe it's just one travel mech).it
Something to point out. I believe that the lore of dune specifically states that guns are outlawed in the universe and are rendered useless due to the shields that stop things that are moving at high speeds. I saw a lot of rifles and some crossbows I believe 😕. No hand to hand sword fighting, no sand worm riding, the costumes don't look similar to the suites worn in the latest dune movies, but I must say I do like how they look. Therefore should authenticity to the source material suffer due to gameplay considerations???
This is not true friend! No guns are outlawed but the use of laser guns while shields are active is. If a las gun shoots a shield it basically creates a small nuclear explosion, which is why melee combat is used so much, but on Arrakis the shields are hardly used because they attract the worms, so guns and las guns are used very often until you are somewhere a worm can’t be (on a large rock formation or in a city usually) then shields and melee combat is favored.
So they put out others details
One is that they. Are working on the lore with the Herbert estate very closely. They originally let players shoot each and nuke one another. However it ruined the experience for testers all except the players who were good at shooting. Which was every 1 out of 10. So they worked with the Herbert estate to write an explanation why nukes don't go off but they have systems and classes to let you close the distance against guns and engage in melee combat like the original lore.
They also stated they are using the books, the movies and the sci Fi show as inspiration for different aspects of the game.

I think these 'reveals' where they have presenters trying to talk and act cool, goes to show how out of touch they are with gamers these days.

Wow not knowing what Funcom has done in last 20 years? i hate online and mmo type games and they made one of the best ive played.. Age of Conan was for its time the one of the most beautifully MMOs ever created..with a story till level 20.. and ive enjoyed it and loved it. They have Conan licence and last few years DUNE licence. I am not very happy that they are doing survival mmo.. but thats what they do.. and it would be solo allso so i cant wait for anything Conan or Dune.. one of the top franchises ever created. Dune games should had a lot more games.. Strategy games especially but allso a singleplayer RPG is a wet dream of mine. Conan allso.. perfect for Singleplayer RPG. Funcom made lots of Mmos and they have a very active CONAN Exiles survival game ive allso played for few months but as most online or survival games are like sort of nowhere pointing and no story so ive stopped, hated any online interactions :) like allways :P People are just shit.. except in Fallout 76 where allmost everybody is super supportive and fun or ignoring.

Watching this direct left me more confused than when I started. Seems sus if I'm being honest.
Why are they talking about stories, they have zero writers in the company. Christ it would be nice if they put something of Herbert's story into the game. They have Conan and there is nothing in it. No story, just a literal sandbox. Christ.
There is a story but you have to actually explore and piece bits of information together, there's a female character you get to read about and her journey from scraps of a diary, the very same character from the intro to the game.
I typically like your stuff but how do you talk about games for your literal job and not know what 4x strategy means...

not trying to be debby downer here but Dune MMO is dead on arrival ( HOW CAN YOU??? THE GAME IS NOT OUT??!? ) but FF14 also has serious plot/space issues good luck finding one open on an crowded server, there are literal maffia in that game or bots sole focus on making digital currency cause the demand is crazy. where can you build your Dune home? if its not specific designated area but an free for all then on an server hosting between 10-100K even if an massive server at 1million space will run out eventually which is also the case if its purely designated areas...
Alright lets skip past the obvious fundamental flaw with an building system that not only uses vertical building but also laterally, survival mechanics oh yeah baby lets go. So what about rust, and some servers being literally UNPLAYABLE dogwater cause nerds without an life spawn kill you and there is nothing you can do about it. Im praying to god this will not be the case, god i hate spawn camping nerds in survival mmo's
