    I'm glad we're on the same page! I'm honestly so happy to hear you speak about this. People often really confuse that small/medium sized birds are really different to their larger counterparts. If I were to let my budgies out on the first day they came home, they would've flew and hurt themselves on the walls. Not to mention, most people who do end up letting them go flying like them end up chasing their birds to get them back in the cage. It's just a bad idea. Having them acclimate to their surround for awhile is a better approach! :)

    this was very helpful! would you ever do a topics video on prepping your home/space for a new bird? I've been worried about what kind of houseplants to avoid, non-stick pan coating (is there a distance where that would be okay? or not at all?), when and how things like candles or incense can be used in your home (if at all?). on one hand I read a lot about how dangerous these things are, and on another I see other bird owners online using these things in other parts of their life/house.

    • @KiwiAndCompany
      @KiwiAndCompany Před 3 lety +4

      Anything that makes smoke is harmfull unless totally seprate from the bird. Teflon can be harmful even on a differnet side of the house.
      If you use candles for scent, there are many alternatives (boiling orange zest, etc.)
      I reccommend joining the forum Avian Avenue, theres lots of good info there.

    I have two young budgies, they love playing with their toys inside the cage, they will eat millet spray and seeds from my hands, one in particular will easily follow the millet and get onto my finger. The other one is more skiddish, and will just fly around my room and land on my ceiling fan. They will spend hours up there. I can coax the one back down with treats but I don’t want to reinforce just flying up to the fan all the time. The other one is much harder to get back in the cage even after leaving them alone up there for awhile. Suggestions?

    One thing that I know about parrotlets from being a parrotlet owner is that they are too small for their own good. The chances that they can fly away or be accidentally killed by an unsuspecting person is very high and it is very very easy for them to get diseases and die. Psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD) is one of the main diseases you should look out for and it's just so so so unfortunate how such loveable creatures are so vulnerable because of their size. My own Ari flew away a few weeks ago and I still can't get over her disappearance and I'm having mental breakdowns every time I see anything related to her. Please be very, very cautious with your parrotlet so it can live its best, healthiest and longest life with you.

    Hey, I was planning on bringing home a second parrotlet soon, but I don't really have room for a second cage. Would housing two parrotlets in one cage be alright? They would spend most of their time out of the cage, but I worry about territorial behaviors developing. Also, do you have any tips for introducing them and encouraging them to get along?

    • @karenmohan4989
      @karenmohan4989 Před 3 lety +1

      That would be too dangerous. I'm afraid to say, you'll have to find space for another cage.

    Is it ok that my vet didn't do a blood test? Or should I seek out another vet?

    • @FlockTalk
      @FlockTalk  Před 3 lety

      Some vets won’t do the blood draws for smaller birds (usually anything smaller than a cockatiel) because the amount of blood taken can be risky for extremely small birds. In those cases they may just do the fecal exams instead! If you worry about your vet I would ask their reasonings for not doing the exams and they should be able to help!

      @@FlockTalk Thank you! she's a parrotlet, which does mean she's tiny, so that makes sense! She is my first bird so I'm paranoid about everything. Btw give mia my love!

    Hello I'm a subscriber to your videos I enjoy them find them educational.
    Perhaps you can help me just recently purchased a male Blue Pacific parrotlet supposed to be a male. What I ordered the parallel Pacific Blue parallel mail from this breeder who owns the Pirate Store also knows other breed is he said I can get it back and get the birds for your four of them you could pick one from them they're all males said okay I go up to the store and then woman had three left one was purchased in the morning I got the bird and I got the one that was the darkest blue they all look very close but I picked the darkest blue one and said you know by the way and I'll see the blue Street next to the eye how do you tell that this is a male versus female at such a young age 2 months of age she said well it's hard to tell I said I don't see the blue dark blue rump on bird either which also is the mail and she said well well that's because they're so young two months old they don't show to the street next to their I don't show to the royal blue colors is pronounces and they get older. So I axed how do I know this is a male because that's what I asked for that's what I want because females can I problems with eggs and getting blocked and everything and I just want to mail. And the owner to store the breeder he know that when he went to go get the birds specifically for me to four of them so I can pick one. And she said well she turned it upside down she's looking at the birds vent and she said I from my experience I would say this is a male said okay while paying 350 $350 for the bird I see what if it turns out to be a female can I bring it back to exchange it for a mass uses no. So what I'd like to know is how do you hit what other techniques message is there to determine a two-month-old bird is Young is my Pacific Blue parrotlet Male what other techniques are there to make that determination of the sexes?
    Thanking you in advance Fred. I look forward to your response in my CZcams account thank you..

    Umm my parrotlets fluff up and fly wings while chirping and then jump to my hand and run up my shoulder and hang out. So not always a scared reaction.

      Trying to get a bird to step up only 3 days in isn't the best idea in my opinion. Have 2 cockatiels and a budgie, his friend just died and he is extremely skittish. Giving him time to get used to the new cage and showing him that the other two don't mind me.
