  • We gather each Sunday as the church to hear from God and worship him as he has revealed himself to us in Jesus Christ. But we can subtly shift our worship to secondary matters like music, liturgy, or skill and end up engaging in idolatry. This is the first of two episodes where David and Bob explore the different idols we can worship on Sunday mornings.

A couple of thoughts. I heard a quote that "Traditions are answers to forgotten questions." Its important to look at traditions and evaluate the questions they answer and decide if they are still valid. Most are! Some aren't. We do "mixed" services with traditional hymns and modern songs. One day a gentleman approached and lamented we don't sing the hymns anymore. We had sung two hymns that morning. But because we projected the words and not held the hymnal, we weren't "singing hymns".
It's amazing what things some people hold on to and what they miss.

Thanks for this meditation. I'm on vacations visiting family in a third-world country. There is no church for us to attend here this morning but we will sing, worship and study the Word of God. This is a holy day. May God bless you for your work.

This was a very clear presentation on the subject.
Rather than asking ourselves "Do I have Idols in my life?" I think we would all benefit from asking ourselves "What are the Idols in my life?" We all have them, but need to acknowledge them so that we can work at getting them out.

Thank you for the effort and the care for God's people! We all tend to find new idols very easily, not even noticing that.

Such an important thing for us all to consider be we in the pews or on the worship team. Thank you for sharing this and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Wonderful video. I agree that this is an issue - modern music, traditional music, doesn't matter. It can all become an idol.

Hi. This was a very interesting presentation. What is your take on testomony songs (songs that focus on me) versus songs that praise God? Recently I have been speaking with my church leadership on including more praise songs (God focused songs). Do you have a video on testomony songs vs praise songs?

    Wrong!
You need more of Jesus to fill your heart. Only He can properly guide you to a "better" way of worship. The Holy Spirits' territory. Not you. Not a certain "type" of music.
What you are doing now is good enough. It will always need God's blessings upon it. And that will be and must be enough
Check your heart's desire. What is your flesh wanting?
