- The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh attend a parade to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale.
British and French troops will swap roles to take part in the Changing of the Guards ceremonies outside of the palaces of the other country's head of state, to celebrate the occasion.

I was just thinking the same thing. I had always thought he favored his mother in his looks, but as I watched him talk to the French soldiers, I immediately - like you - thought how much he favored his father in his bearing and manner of speaking. What fun it was as an American to witness this special day! I also thought of our own trip to London in 1985, as we witnessed the changing of the guard one very cold, cloudy January day. Lovely memories of a wonderful city and of Great Britain, home to most of my ancestors!
I like the way HRH The Duke of Edinburgh was taking the time to talk to the French soldiers. I would hazard a guess (from the positions of his mouth) he was talking to them in French too. Well done sir!

Oh yes she would. She would have kept the English Guards on their toes too, with her eagle eyed attention to detail!
She would have had to say a word or two to the commanding officer as some of the soldiers were not performing overly well. Misaligned at some point, some heads not turned to the right, etc. Phew.

The Duke of Edinburgh has really proved himself. A wonderful, hard working wife and two polite, respectful children. He went through a difficult, petulant stage and the press went for him and Sophie - who also made mistakes - big time but they both changed their behaviour and got on with their duties - without whingeing - and are invaluable members of the Royal Family, much loved by our Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. Our Royal Family will be here and thriving long after the Grifters have faded into obscurity.

@Britishmu7695 when our late Queen was alive Edward was still classed as a senior royal because he was a younger child of the Sovereign and Sophie is his spouse
but when she died they went down in the order of precedence and now he is only a younger sibling of the Sovereign
and Louise and James are junior royals and like their other cousins
they will get jobs
The duke of kent, princess alexandra and the duke & duchess of gloucester will certainly become the last generation of a monarch's cousin who have royal duties. Its good example that king charles retain them as working royals

@@lsmith9249 Yes I know Edward was the son of our late Queen and was a senior Royal as her Son but he didn’t do as much in the line of frontline engagements and State engagements like they are doing now as Senior Royals would would be doing. Princess Anne is classed as a Senior Royal and comes below Edward in the Royal sibling pecking order and given the present lack of them I’d class them as Senior working Royals.
Beatrice ,Eugene , Peter and Zara are not working Royals and it was intended that the Wessex children wouldn’t be either but given that George , Charlotte and Louis are still very young it would be good if they did become working Royals even if it were just part time to support the Monarch. I believe the King is considering Beatrice and Eugene having more of a working role given their Father is permanently excluded but at the moment they both still have full time jobs.

Me too watching from Garden City, New Zealand...just spiffing ceremony and precision. I believe in 1965 the Kiwi Army was the first Commonwealth country to take over the Guard at Buckingham Palace..it was winter as well...and they were much shorter than the former Queens Guard Regiment they took over from. They were stationed at the then new Chelsea Barracks...called exercise Powderhorn if I recall correctly...

Loved the way Edward inspected the French guards first.. then indicated to the French lady dignitary to proceed first to inspect the English guards. No-one does military ceremonies as well as the British, dignified and precise. Great 🎵🎵 from the bands, too !! 😊 From 🦘🇦🇺

While I agree for "general" or "common" ceromies, British are the best... But when it comes to honour the dead, french ceremonies are very great and somewhat unique in the world...
And the editing was discrete. It did not cut through the 🎶 for which I was very grateful.
I was "blown away" by the outstanding celebrations of the 'Entente Cordial' (forgive both punctuation and spelling s'il vous plait) in 2023.
The music there was like the Coronation Music for King Charles lll and Camilla with superb singers and various musicians/instruments included.

Imagine if they hadn’t scarpered we'd have been represented by that godawful pair who would be an embarrassment. Look how dignified and relaxed the Edinburghs are, and a credit to our nation and the Sovereign. 👑🙏💕

But the continuous financement of coalitions after coalitions by the British and the unbending skill of Napoleon had made that impossible. if that had been done, no franco-prussian war, no WWI nor WWII... and UK and france would have remained the 2 superpower for both 19, 20 and nowadays.

That was very good. There is something about a marching band that lifts the spirits. I thought the French guards were very smart - alongside ours. It's what the world needs..... some entante cordiale.

My father was a Welsh Guardsman throughout WWII, he took me on a military sight seeing tour of London in 1953, I was just 8 years old. He said when he mounted the guard at Buckingham Palace he marched outside the gates, his favorite guard duty was the Bank of England where the guards wore plimsols to protect the marble floors. They each received a newly minted half crown after each duty. In the 1940s this bought several pints in the mess.

Another wonderful display from the British Military! I have attended many Changing of the Guard ceremonies and each and every soldier is a credit to the Armed Forces and the UK.
