someone actually has the balls to make an MMORPG mouse in the middle of the lightweight craze. i respect it.
Thats what they did with Rival 500 five years ago
FACTS!!!
New Razer Naga's were released in 2021, wired and wireless versions.
@@Frencho9 I know .. hard pass
I might have to get this one now. I just have so many fucking mice at the moment. Got the Corsair M65 for my large hands and when I play fps but I would like to get back to playing some MMORPG as well.
Seeing new products from steelseries makes me super excited to see what they will do with their headsets this year. Another awesome video bro!
thanks a bunch man, and I'm with you, I hope we get a headset refresh soon
They’re taking too long to refresh the arctis 9. I ended up with a Corsair XT for PS5. I love my 9x I’ve had since 2020 and I wish they had an updated model for PC/PS5
They have had the same boring design for time, im on the market for a new headset for my computer, still just waiting
@@TheTechne isn't this a rival 5 wireless? Why would they name it aerox?
@@jcap8391 I honestly thought the same, lol
I picked up the 5 yesterday. It felt really weird at first, especially the side buttons. After a few hours I was getting really comfortable with it. Mouse is a bit larger than I want, but it feels really solid so far. As for weight; I consider myself to have a fast reaction time, and anything under 70 grams kind of makes me over aim/under aim.
Great reviews. Thanks!
I’ll def try out the 5, I do think I’ll also hate the holes on MB1 and 2 but still. I am of opinion that 3 side-button mice are just the best balance overall, it’s like a TKL but then in mouse form. Thanks for the review, I wouldn’t’ve known about these otherwise.
I don't know about you but the button design they did for the Rival 500 was one of the better implementations for MMO usage. I think that would actually be a good fit between these two. Rival 500 had big chunky buttons in an intuitive layout. They just need to release a lightweight and wireless version of the 500
Agreed. I don't think Steelseries realizes one of the most prominent reasons the Rival 500 wasn't a huge success as an MMO mouse was simply due to the weight. The rumble gimmick, overly reinforced shell and terrible cable added so much unnecessary weight and at the worst time, because it was released at the dawn of lightweight gaming mice. They innovated in such positive ways, but were unprepared for the sudden and drastic market shift.
If they released an updated Rival 500 that weighed under 67g wired, w/ paracord cable or 76g wireless and their magnetic optical switches with nothing else changed, it could easily be used across multiple genres as they intended. In my opinion, the Rival 500 had a great shape, so just those changes would make it an impressive offering.
@@stevensavage2684 100% Agreed. If they released an updated version, i bet plenty of people will jump on it.
Quite funny how Roccat ended up taking the layout and continuing through their line-up.
I still have and use my 500 for any games that I want more buttons than my fps mouse. I'm really hoping for a wireless version because that button layout is just next level.
@@Wayne3 Right? It's also saddening that a lot of content creators are not even aware of that mouse or that it even existed. It fly under the radar for a lot of these tech reviewers
Excellent review, subscribed :)
I currently have the Rival 5 and I love it the rocker is actually super useful for FPS games if you know how to use it. The Aerox 5 might be the next step.
How crisp would you say the clicks are? I currently have the Glorious Model D & the Corsair RGB Pro Wireless. Thinking about getting this mouse.
For someone playing multiple types of games, I would love to get the Aerox 5! I don't know if the shape will fit tho considering I want to get the KPA😎
SteelSeries is going into a pretty different direction in the lightweight market, but I like that! 👍
I like this guy he shoots alot of loving energy!
I like you also
fr makes my day
Now that this is out is makes me doubt or indecisive about that I was gonna purchase the prime wireless this month as I need a new mouse to play with I think mostly FPS games and as I was using the rival 310, I wanted to try for the first time a wireless mouse....what to do now?
It was pretty smart of Steelseries to go for these new mice.
They strategically fill the lightweight MMO/ utility mice gap pretty well 👍
For the Aerox 5, is it easy to use that 'paddle' like button without pressing the 2 below it? It seems like the sort of thing where it would be too hard to flick up or down, and your finger would slip to hit the other 2 instead.
I have the Aerox 3 and the Rival 5...but now I will get this to be the perfect combo of both. 👍
Hey techne. I just got the Aerox 5 wireless. Is the up/down side button on yours really stiff and kind of hard to press?
I just saw a Aerox 5 Wired version for only $79.99. That Aerox 5 Wireless is nice, But at $140, That is quite a hefty price increase comparably. Especially when competing in similar price ranges as the G Pro X Superlight and Razer Viper. Your reviews are absolutely top notch and this one is no exception. Thanks.
Does the steelseries GG software have a function similar to LOGITECH's G-Hub G-shift? Where pressing one key gives all other keys a second function?
how are the clicks compared to the Steelseries Prime series?
I just miss my rival 600 man… that thing was a heavyweight ergo beast, probably gonna get a aerox 5 in hopes the shape is similar
Imagine swappable side panels like razer naga trinity on these.. holy crap, I'd buy it instantly!
Great mice, great review. I'd personally prefer without holes, without clutch, with the same weight and no RGB.
Great video as always.
1. Does it have software App compatible with M1 Macs = Razer refuses to make their new Synapse 3 app available for Mac OS
2. Can you make a comparison video between the Razer Naga Pro vs Steele Series Aerox 9 Wireless.
It seems that the numerical pad on the side panel seems too far in front and with long buttons. Clicking 1 then 12 might be taxing on the thumb.
But, I am really interested. If the Steele Series App is M1 Mac Compatible then this would be a win for Steele Series and me as I will get one ASAP.
This will be a good challenge to the Razer Naga Pro.
I'll definitely go for light weight over swappable side panels.
Hello, im using steelseries rival 310, and yes it is because of you and your review hahaha, i like your idea a wireless is a freaking awesome im thinking about that also
--just a quick question my 2 year old rival 310, has a problem with the scroll...any idea? i already updated the software, its always scrolling down rather than up... can you help me?
just a fan from Philippines
Not sure if the mouse 1 + mouse 2 sound crispy, they both sound kind of weird to me tbh
P/S: How about the wired Aerox 5? Did you receive it as well uncle Techne? Or it's on a separate video?
DAMN NICEEE! It’s so suprising that even steelseries doesn’t expose this yet. I love techne so much 😭❤️
Expose what
So have you ordered the Lightfall version of the 5?😊
All I wish for from SS is an Aerox 6(00, if you catch my drift) Hands down their best shape to date IMO, just the weight of it made me refund it back in the day
Does steel series have something what razer calls the hypershift?
which is better?
Logitech G PRO X superlight or the SS Aerox 3 2022?
Sidebuttons are important, main reason why i chose Kone Pro Air over Prime Wireless
Compared to the Kone Pro?
Had the aerox 5. Loved it! For a day that is.. then it went crazy on me: constant reconnecting (usb-c directly and via the adapter) and flickering lights.. Had it replaced, but the replacement did the exact same.. Reinstalled Steelseries GG (latest version from their website) and disabled power saving setttings in my USB ports. I'm on a (as good as a) fresh windows install. Returned the mouse. Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem? Im looking at a corsair mouse atm, but I already have other steelseries pheriferals and I'd love to have all me stuff in one application.
I feel like the holes in the triggers were not necessary. I mean, those mice are like 75/85g already right? 1g to fill them in wouldn't be that much of a problem, especially when you see that big a** RGB defuser on the bottom
To add to that, the triggers themselves are quite small compared to the Aerox 3 that had the same design but where bigger triggers compensated for the holes
I have the feeling the Aerox 5 is going to get murdered by the Glorious Model I when the wireless version comes out
Techne is a D2 main!? wow… brutha that’s been my jam since launch. May i ask your screen-tag? prob see u all the time n pvp and simply didn’t know it. Keep up the great content!
i was about to buy one of these but my laptop only has one usb-c port which is being used by my headset. really wish usb-a dongle was an option
Techne, I think you should also measure your hand and add the dimensions to your mouse videos in an info box like with the mouse specs.
I'm thinking of getting these because I get sweaty hands when I play fps games 🤔 so I'm hoping the holes will get my hand some air flow so it don't get as sweaty
I’ve been using the Corsair scimitar for world of Warcraft, I may have to grab the 9.
Please make a comparison between the Areox 5 and the Glorious Model I
soon ;)
As a MMO gamer with large hands for years the Corsair Scimitar was my go to. However, I always felt like it was a brick & I wished it had wireless. So when the new wireless version came out. I immediately tried it. However in recent years, I’ve been playing more FPS games, and maining a GPX so the Scimitar being 119g was insanely too heavy! However, I recently started playing Helldivers 2 and picked this up to make dropping strats easier and I couldn’t be happier! Wish I would have gotten it sooner!
Hey The Technie I was thinking about picking up one of these mouse. And after watching your video I’m convinced I should go ahead and buy It I just have one question do u have to use the dongle to connect wirelessly or can It just connect to my PCs Bluetooth. Thanks in advance if you read this and take the time to Answer.
Works on Bluetooth, but it won't be as responsive. Fine for work, not for gaming.
What we need in mice is 8,000hz polling rates while also being wireless and light with USB c cables.
If they make a lightweight rival 650 wireless or a rival 310(used to be my main until I switched to naga for the 12 buttons ) I would main it agian
A wireless sensei would be awesome
@@niveke the ten
What they really need to make or update is the Rival 500. Search that up if you guys haven't seen it
they are great mice but the hump in the back is not as rounded as the 503/basilisk, so it doesn't fill in the palm as well. still fills the palm but not as much. also the thumb isn't contoured much, so it feels pretty flat.
if that doesnt bother you then this is a great lightweight alternative to the 503/basilisk
Why not an steelseries aerox 9 Wired version ????
How is the app called
what's the difference between the aerox 5 wireless and the older aerox 3 except for a few new buttons?
bigger
I've been thinking about buying an MMO Mouse for single player games.
Can i use one of this mice with xim apex ?
I need a Rival 310 refresh
I'm so excited for the 9. FINALLY a more slender, claw-friendly MMO mouse that doesn't weigh a brick. 88g for wireless and a decent shape is a godsend when all we've had is the bulky Naga since they abandoned their earlier (though still bulky) 2013 version. Can't wait for the 9 to be available in Aus.
Bro it does feel like they abandoned the naga. i just ordered the 9. hoping to love it.
@@Torresgamingchannel I returned my Aerox 9 basically immediately lol. Great shape and weight and felt fantastic in hand, but the side buttons are a complete travesty. The designers put form over function when designing the side button panel, because not only are the MEMBRANE(?!) switches incredibly stiff and difficult to press on their own, the buttons are low-profile and barely dinstinguishable, non-uniform in size and contoured with negative curvature along the side of the mouse. Everything works against its utility as an MMO mouse and I can't imagine what the designers were thinking when making these decisions, probably they didn't think at all and just thought they could get away with slapping this awful panel on their Aerox 3 base and eat into the MMO market. It's such a disappointment because, again, the mouse shape was great. I ended up picking up a Naga X and it's *fine*, not great because of the bulky shape, but the decently low-ish weight and side panel (still best on the market) win out.
@@Blindastronomer I just tried to cancel my order. Haha, thanks man!
It's funny, because I was looking at this mouse to replace my Rival 310. Guess I'll wait a bit longer.
I just bought a glorious 0- idk if it’s worth it buying steel series mice 😢
Can you turn off the RGB or just make it all white? on the Aerox 5? I'm not a fan of RGB 😅
yes
I wish MMOs mouses were lighter :( I use a finalmouse starlight 12 small pegasus for FPS and MOBA games and that’s 42g but now my Corsair Scimitar feels like moving around a brick lol. It feels so slow, I might try the steel series 9 here to see if it feels better
I have a Corsair Scimitar and I actually use the side buttons for Destiny lol.
Got the aerox 9 wireless on eBay for 125, can’t wait !
Did they make the thumb button closer? I remember on the rival 5 a complaint was the thumb button was too far away
same spot
It's an useless gimmick button to begin with as you need quite large hands to reach it and if you actually do have large hands, activating it tends ro break your grip!
Do you no i cant play any game with out the 12 num in a mouse i play valo and call of duty with the 12 num i love it soooo much
How similar is the Aerox 5 wireless to the basilisk ultimate?
bigger
It's hype that they have these options but I think they're too expensive. Aerox 9 can kind of justify it by being the only sub 90 gram wireless mmo mouse but even then, I think the Naga X is a better value overall even though it's wired. Like I said though, I do like that they're doing this. I love my Aerox 3 wireless and hopefully one day they can make a solid version. Awesome vid! Love your energy!
I use a mouse similar to the 9 for fortnite and the buttons on the side work great bc fortnite requires so many keybinds
thank god i wasn’t the only one thinking there was a “missing link” when they released the 5 and 9. give us that aerox 7 steelseries and it’ll sell like hot cakes 😁
These new Steelseries mice are *awesome*
I just bought the 9, I can't agree more with the pointer finger hitting the holes - it feels weird. But the buttons on the side of the 9 are the best in the industry, the slight curve allowing your thumb to grip, and you really know where your thumb is in relation to the button you want, my thumb rests on number 7, so 7-12 are my main buttons, with 4-6 reachable, 1-3 are too far for my thumb. The weight is spot on! the size is spot on! The only thing I would change is making the left the right buttons without the holes. I have a relaxed fingertip grip with average hand size. SteelSeries really stepped up their game... for WoW its perfect! Also, all mice these days need a tilting scroll wheel, I wish the 5 had it.
Is your mouse still working?
@@lucasw2578 I bought the new Logitech g502x+ and that’s been my main ever since it came out. With using the Steelseries for a month, I tried both versions the 5 and 9, I found the mouse feeling really flat, and awkward to hold, the side buttons on the 5 were sharp, and it bugs me Steelseries does not do a tilting scroll wheel. So the Logitech g502x+ has been the mouse for me since it’s release.
@@92Anchy okay thank you i check that mouse out
I dont know why but for me steelseries made the difference in FPS mice in old days, rival 300 guys, no matter for radioactive rubber glue, falling apart. And I hope that they will turn back with a rival 300 wireless version, with a steelseries sensor on 3335, and low click latency . these mice seem a half range for me, for MMO but not much , for FPS but no much, steel series could choice just a good target. Just my opinion of course
They should do a remaster of the rival 600
and the 310
I would remove the buttons and the shell from the rival 5 and change it to the aerox 5 😉
For editing .....razer tartarus keypad or something like that, not a mouse with many buttons and for job mouse .....trackball like logi mx ergo....every task need there own tool my opinion.
Getting my immortal rival 310 mentioned makes me a proud dad
rival 300 is still my favourite mouse of all time . I used everything Razer Glorious logitech pwnage xtrfy roccat...Im using the prime for productivity and when i do serious gaming I go back to the Steelseries 300 or 310. Theres nothing that beats that shape for me
Bro I agree, I’m currently using a Logitech pro x super light and hate the feel. Got palm grip I haven’t tried a better mouse than the 310 sensei
Would any of gamers recommend Aerox 5 wireless for PUBG?
Yo Techne how does the 9 compare to the evga mmo mouse?
oh man the 9 blows it away
@@TheTechne good to know, will have to upgrade then!!!
Im still using a Razer Naga 2012 edition, best fucking mouse ever. I've bought maybe 10 other mice since then, even the new Naga Pro and I just dont like the feeling. The new Naga is fucking gigantic for some reason. The 9 seems like its a little smaller... I might actually pick it up and see if its good for me.
I don't even know why it would have holes when it's as heavy as 88 grams
Big SteelSeries fan here. I have their Apex 7 keyboard, the Rival 3 mouse and the QCK XL RGB mousemat. Love what they do, and SteelSeries makes the best peripherals for the PC IMHO.
Not a fan of mice with holes in them, so the Rival 5 and the other wired mice are more to my liking, though I must say this Rival 3, for a budget mouse, is really excellent! I prefer wired over wireless any day!
the aerox 9 would be way better if they had slapped the rival 500’s buttons on the side (for me the best mmo mouse)
Steelseries is still charging $150 for a 3335 sensor mouse. I suppose if high latency and lift off distance doesn't bother you, then Steelseries is ok, I guess.
Personally I want a Prime Wireless with a fixed sensor and some real side buttons.
He's back woo
With the amount of keybinds needed to play tarkov, the 9 is the way to go
3335??
I just want them to make a new kinzu:(
I just ordered wired version.
RIVAL 310 wireless pleeeasse
Still waiting for ghost edition
Couln't agree more on the comparison to the G604. If anyone's comparing the two and considering upgrading from the G604; do it. The built in battery and lighter weight are worth it alone! And if you're into RGB, it's got that too.
not enough mice have 4-5 buttons on the side for ARPGs like Diablo. even ESO is simpler compared to other MMOs.
HES TALKING ABOUT THEM YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
So I have 3 gripes with this mouse:
1. The 12 side buttons are way too far forward. I have large hands. When I say large I mean that large size work gloves you buy at Home Depot juuuuuuust barely fit me and I have to squeeze my hands into them just a bit. So when I say the side buttons are too far forward then imagine someone with big ol sausage mits having a hard time reaching the front buttons and I use a palm grip and not a claw grip when mousing.
2. The right side of the mouse is narrow, smooth and rounded. This makes it difficult to grab pickup the mouse using my ring finger and pinky finger. I found myself not picking up the mouse, dropping it early when doing large movements or having to concentrate on picking it up and moving into position.
3. The side buttons, for me, were a little too stiff to actuate. The Logitech G600 has stiff buttons and I didn't like that. The Corsair Scimitar has easily pressed side buttons and I would place the Aerox 9 side buttons right in between those two as far as pressure needed to actuate the buttons.
Other than those 3 gripes, the mouse is fan-freaking-tastic.
The feet on this mouse feel darn near frictionless and it is incredibly light weight.
The sensor is super accurate and extremely responsive.
I am very sensitive to wireless mouse input lag and I can feel it with the Logitech G604 mouse but the Aerox 9 is incredibly indiscernible. I bet you money that you cannot tell the difference between this mouse and a wired mouse.
The battery drops fast with RGB on but sips power with it off.
The only mouse that I could see beating this would be if Corsair made a wireless version of the Scimitar.
One more thing I forgot to mention as a gripe. The functions of 'Back' and 'Forward' to go back a page or forward page in a web browser are inherently set to button 4 and 5 respectively. Button 4 and button 5 are not labeled to tell you that they have this inherent command function in the software. So say if you want left tilt on the middle mouse wheel to be the 'back' command then you would assign the left tilt action with button 4 and the right tilt action with button 5 for the forward command.
RIVAL 310 WIRELESS please!!
I have the Prime Mini ! It was made for my hand, I swear !! If you like mices with holes you can get one of this without any problems, they are very very good !
Eyes up guardian, lemme guess titan?
9:12 Exactly!!
I just returned a Aerox 3 wireless, because with the 2.4ghz connection, whenever it goes into sleep mode, it takes 10 seconds to wake up (feels like it has to do a re-pairing). It's a shame because I loved how that mouse feels. Anyone have similar experience on Aerox series?
Literally just got the ghost 👻
still wont match the logi g502
Yes
Aerox 5 feels too big for fingertip grip which I normally use. The two upper side-buttons is almost unusable. The side/down-click on the top side button is somewhat decent, but I can't upclick without the entire mouse lifting. I have to use a firm palm grip or pinch the entire mouse to use the up-click. If I pinch it wrong I left-click at the same time. Could change the dpi-button with that one. I'd think I'd rather prefer the two upper side buttons to also be normal buttons. The steelseries engine lacks the ability to change buttons to side scroll/ horizontal scroll, which is a real bummer. The scroll wheel feels very nice and silent, maybe a bit mushy but it's preferable to many of the obnoxious clicky wheels I'm used to. Bought some razer universal grip tape and put all over it to make it easier to hold with my puny fingertip grip. Bluetooth in addition to 2,5GHz dongle and wired option was surprisingly nice to have. The 2,5GHz dongle itself seems much larger than necessary.
I realise I have yet to find a mouse I find to be perfect. I'd think I would love to have a razer viper mini with 4-6 buttons on the left side. Four on the side and two extra on the left click. In addition to sidescroll. Like a Logitech G502 mini.
What mouse do you use today??
Nice question. I've come to terms that the perfect mouse for me doesn't exist yet. But I have 2-3 mouses I love. My main mouse is the HSK Pro 4K Mouse with added superglides glass feet. I was a bit skeptical at first but as soon as I put on the glass feet I was in love. One of the side buttons is perfect, and the other one is OK (can be further refined in a future iteration). My now work mouse (previous prime) was the razer viper ultimate with suerglides glasss feet. I still love it, but I wish the ekstra side buttons was placed in easy reach for the thumb or index (instead of being ambidextrous). Both of the mice I wish had side click scroll wheel like Razer Pro click mini (which I've wondered if I should try out). The third mouse (don't really use it anymore) is G502 wireless, but it's a bit too heavy and is an acquired taste four fingertip grippers (not really meant for it). I've wondered if I should try it with superglides and lightweight bottom mod (not sure if the same mod works on the newer version), but I don't really play any games which I really need that many buttons. Might try it for fun one day or if I start gaming some MMO's. I think Steelseries Aerox 9 wireless with superglides would come more in handy if I were to play MMO's. @@thinkchair96
@@johnsiayor4437 thank you so much. I’m honestly so overwhelmed with all the mouse market and terminology, I actually bought a pulsar x2h mini on a whim. We’ll see how it goes. Thanks again for your reply
If people are complaining about the weight of the Aerox 9 then you need to go workout or do something to increase muscle mass because even the Aerox 9 is incredibly light. It's even too light to be a paper weight.
