The fact that it was never automated to begin with and just low paid overseas workers feels so realistic it hurts
It was actually automated. Amazon clarified that the workers in India were basically moderators and AI trainers who reviewed the footage to make sure the transactions were accurate. They discontinued its use because they couldn't get the error rate down - they wanted it to require review 50 out of 1000 times but they were stuck at 700/1000. So TL;DR it was AI but apparently not very good AI.
@@breausephthat's even worse - the fact they launched a buggy mess
I mean culturally we used to speculate that the future would or could be robots we were like “oh no what if the robots gain sentience, that’ll be slavery what a moral quandary ,” and we did all that speculative mind-fapping for nothing because it turns out the answer to those questions in reality is a pyramid scheme that pretty much ends in slavery…we can’t solve slavery as an answer to maintaining “ civilization”I mean we probably could if we actually committed to trying it, but humankind can’t seem to do that and we don’t even have real robots to show for it. Which is just darkly absurd and borderline funny because of all the scams to project this image of futurism that’s overly nostalgic and passé. We were the unfeeling machines all along 😂
@@Topgunnder uhh no, it's still bad but its definitely noy worse. one is like pretending that a non existent technology they invented exists while lying completely and using 100% human labor in some kind of scheme to fool people OR they tried to invent yhe technology and debuted it before it was ready and buggy, as you said. Which is very bad obviously but it's not the same thing at all.
one sounds like a great Philip k dick short story like the electric dreams adaptation Autofac. The other is more like another shitty product released too early and mishandled like shitty apple and amazon practices we're used to. They've been a hugely unethical company and i don't see it changing any time soon sadly.
@@FreyaEinde 😅 they speculated about robots becoming a new oppressed class and kinda forgot to focus a little more on the class war and capitalism maybe
The hair is on point this episode for both of em goddamn
so true i wasn’t even looking

IM AN 8th GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER AND I FUCKING LOVE THE BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS I MAKE ALL MY STUDENTS LISTEN TO IT
Now if only everyone else loved 1800s-mid 20th century folk Americana music about politics and history. I think I am the only one on earth with this taste in music rn I’m very lonely
Something something union dixie
I love your absolute excitement about it. Thank you for teaching our future.
My mom would play this song for us and I loved it! I also loved when my eighth grade teacher had us listen to it and I already knew the words ^u^. I also like “Sink the Bismarck.” Bangers!!
My teacher made us memorize We didn't start the fire. Bad song originally, but if i was in school now and had to learn the updated (completely random and seemingly AI generated) version, i would drop out.
The law just changed in Oregon this year, we can pump our own gas now. There are still gas attendants at all the stations but I imagine they'll be phased out eventually.
I live pretty near west Virginia and apparently they have gas attendants there, one gas station near i live has an attendant but he's never arrested for pumping everyone's gas. I usually go to the grocery store to get gas because i get points from shopping.
@@Imbatmn57It's not illegal for a gas attendant to pump your gas in a non attendant state, it's just they don't because they're one less person they have to pay (or several if it's a big gas station)
I'm from Colorado and not pumping my own gas is a wild concept to me. I've never seen a gas station attendant pump gas in my life.
I thought we passed that in like 2015, or was that just for rural areas? Oh is that why I get dirty looks for pumping my own in the city lmao
beat me to it :(
I use both Ubrelvy and Xiidra lol. Reading out my full medication list feels like I'm casting a spell on my doctor or something.
As a fellow migraine warrior, I feel you. 🪄
“Answer these riddles, or you won’t get your bipolar meds” feels way too real lol
That was especially funny to me as someone who has taken Vraylar for bipolar lol (it is an antipsychotic)
this, but with my Adderall lmao especially cuz of the constant shortages with meds in general rn

Love the implication that Jordan’s full name is Jordan Jordan
that hurt my head

Jarvis is correct, the original idea was the Indian workers would be temporary to help train the algorithm, but the thing about current "AI" models is no one has figured out how to get them stop hallucinating data. It might not even be possible. So Amazon realized they were never going to get past the "training" stage and actually have the AI take over because the AI was never going to be reliable enough to justify the cost of all the cameras and servers and everything to do the job of a minimum wage employee.
I’m a trans guy who lives in a very small appalachian town and I go to a barber who has a confederate flag out front and says weird transphobic stuff all the time but I keep going back because for some reason she genders me correctly the whole time and gives me super gender affirming cuts despite knowing I’m trans and she’s the only person in my town who knows how to cut curly hair 😭
But she’s racist 😢😢😢 & possibly worse. just like I wish Jarvis had walked out of that barber who clearly was trying to push him (he wouldn’t dare do that w/ somebody more intimidating, think of that scene from Atlanta) I wish the same for you cuz I shudder to know what ur barber does when u walk out…
And you’re tipping her well?? 😭 I will personally help you find a better barber bc hell nah. She prob talks sh*t about you when u leave anyway, & certainly votes against your interests at the ballot box. But will gladly take your $$$. Baby pls find better!!
I went back & reread, & she says transphobic stuff as well??? Documented proof?? She’s prob spitting in your shampoo bottle when ur not looking lmao. Yall just no. Stand up. 🤦🏾♀️
😭😭 tl; dr
Transphobic + racist = nooo yall. 🙏🏾
This is somehow hilarious, irritating, and wholesome all at the same time. 😂
Also an Appalachian trans guy! Hello!
22:17 my hair dresser asks if I want conversation or not at the start of the appointment and it’s great for when I’m already overstimulated
That honestly sounds amazing. My stylist is such a sweet lady but sometimes I'm just tired
that's amazing! I'm a hairstylist and want to offer silent services. I always hated the small talk as a kid, it was so awkward
I just fully disassociate when I get a haircut thankfully most people I've had cut my hair seem to get the message but being able to check a box seems awesome
I actually worked security for Amazon's Seattle campus back in 2017, and was the body they placed in the new Amazon Go they were opening downtown for the last round of QA testing as well as its grand opening. Watching it in action, I was sure that grocery stores over the next few years were going to try to buy that tech or develop their own to phase out cashiers... this news makes it pretty obvious why that never happened. Doesn't make much sense to get rid of cashiers and put in sensors when you need nearly a hundred times the manpower to fill in the cracks in the tech.
Probably pay the people fractions of what they'd pay an American cashier.
@@Imbatmn57 and american cashiers are paid terribly for americans standards
Even if it where legit, nothing could outdo the sheer ingenuity of a 100% hood discount
javis’s hair looks beautiful wohh
the superman curl
javis 😭? why can i hear that in jarvis’ voice but like in some sort of weird australian accent. gday mate i’m JAHVIS.
We love javis and johnson
@@sfigataa.69omg, get out of my head
Jordans hair story about the two barbers on same shift is literally a plot of a Seinfeld episode. It sucks I think their audience is too young too notice that
My sibling is a hair stylist and they say that their favourite clients are the ones that start off by saying some version of "I don't want to chat please just cut my hair"
I was raised on star wars, stargate and star trek, and i was named after Kira from star trek: deep space nine, and i've never gotten sick of it. it makes me happy and even proud to be part of multiple generations of trekkies, because my grandparents on my mothers side met over their love of star trek the original series back in the 60s before going on to attend civil rights protests together and get arrested together and then start a band together and all sorts of stuff that never would have happened if not for star trek. so i can understand how a girl named after princess leia isn't sick of star wars
That’s actually super sweet! I like the name Kira. Kira is a subtler name than Leia, too, so I’d call it a safer choice if you turned out not to not like Star Trek
I love this for you!! Shared interests are the best
"Gunfire stops in the distance" sent me into a hysterical fit looool
Jarvis's hair looking incredible, I envy that curl definition
THAT’S THE KETO SNACKS GUY FROM THAT DREW GOODEN VIDEO!!
I knew he looked familiar
Idk if this sounds weird but the way that Jarvis’s hair is cascading down his forehead makes me think of those beautiful weeping willow trees and I absolutely adore ittt🫶
Jordan’s hair also looks very nice!
It only sounds weird if you hold your nose while saying it ❤
Having young kids, trying to find safe content, put on the alphabet song.
They sang it the standard tune... but lyrics "A and B and C and D..."
Scarred for life.
To be fair ampersand used to be considered a letter
I feel like there are a thousand people in India watching me at all times as well. So in that way, I’m kinda like Amazon.
Thank you guys for this podcast. I have been going through a really hard time, trying to adapt to nerve pain in my dominant arm, and watching this episode is the first time I've laughed this week. I can't exactly pinpoint why, but I always I find the podcast kind of comforting in a way.
As someone born and raised in New Orleans, I'm happy to hear that other people had to learn that song and remember it better than I do
Oregon recently started allowing us to pump our own gas in most cities. Every gas station had to dedicate half of its pumps to self-serve and the other to full service.
I used to deal with a drug called Byetta at work and I always wanted to call it Bayonetta.
the boyz lookin real handsome today happy friday everyone
OH my goodness "Battle of New Orleans" was my childhood anthem! Fun fact: The singer, Johnny Horton, his specific genre of music was called "Honky-Tonk Rockabilly."
I just think that's neat
"It's illegal to pump your own dragon" is taking me out
Sounds like a chuck tingle book but for straight people
Was there some sort of camera change this episode? The boys are looking extra crisp today
hearing people acknowledge Saskatchewan when they aren’t from the Canadian Prairies is jolting
It always catches me off guard
btw the wooden ball engagement bait chef was in drew's video "youtuber boxing (and other things that make me laugh)" !!
haha i knew i recognized it
I'm so glad I'm not the only person who has found out mid-tattoo that the person doing it was racist. 😅
The funny part is if they keep trying to replace jobs with ai then how in the hell are we going to buy anything?
LOOOL
I grew up in rural Missouri and my grandma always went to an old MFA Oil filling station. It had two gas pumps and a line that rang a bell when it was it driven over to let the attendants know someone had pulled up. The old man there would fill the tank, and while the pump was going, check the oil and clean the windshield. When he was done he'd come back to the car with an invoice you would sign and he'd add the total to your tab with the station to be paid later. It was pretty neat!
I was on my phone and a TikTok came up of Johnny Cash being quite the character. SadBoyz just happens to be on. All of a sudden, mid Johnny Cash Tok, I hear Jarvis say, "Johnny Cash". My brains are blown.
Turns out Jarvis is an 58-year-old man from Saskatchewan.
The first album I got was Johnny Horton’s Greatest Hits (and clearly old).
When I was in 7th grade we were shown the song “Too Late To Apologize: A Declaration” and I have never forgotten it to this day, it’s such a wild parody.
We were also offered an extra credit point on a test if we could remember the first verse, but I got two extra points for remembering the whole song 😭
YESS there’s such a weirdly strong sense of nostalgia for me when it comes to that parody.
Dude I watched that too!
Stuff like this should be illegal in the us, how can we claim that tiktok is a security risk but we can freely give non citizens videos of our citizens. And they take away jobs from actual cashiers so there's less money going to the country the store is in.
They can't take away a job that doesn't exist. Be careful when referring to people from other countries "taking our jobs."
The tiktok ban isn't about keeping anyone safe, it's about forcing China to buy data from facebook instead.
Well when you accept that the TikTok ban has nothing to do with “privacy” and “China” and everything to do with controlling the flow of information that the general public gets to see then it’s easier to see the rhetoric as the bold faced lie it is.
I do think it's better than AI art, if it was real AI then that's the whole point of creating it, so people can do more creative things.
Def should be illegal. For security and for moral reasons
“put it in the air fryer until there’s kenough cooking on it” 😂
i was literally thinking when will the next podcast come out and here it is
I sneeze due to light changes, ngl I thought everyone did that
weirded out solely by the fact that I saw an amazon fresh earlier for the first time since it first came out, and made a point to mention it to my sister. I'd forgotten about them entirely
Our gas stations in Wisconsin keep getting bigger lol... Welcome to Kwik Trip
Amazon Lied To Everyone would probably be a more accurate title
i wanna watch this episode but i need to shower
Watch in shower. Wet phone make boyz exxxtra sadz
multi task !
Watch in the shower if u have a pop socket put it like on ur shower hanging thing if u have one
I hang a ziplock bag on the like far end of my shower and put my phone in it 😭
do it while u shower it’s hard to hear but it’s a better shower
Jarvis looks like a hair product commercial. Luscious!
I live in Washington and will drive to Oregon occasionally for a weekend trip and I always forget they pump your gas for you and get jump scared when they come up to my window
amazon ate wholefoods. i started delivering for amazon last summer and they got wholefoods by the balls. idk if theyre officially bought out but amazon is daddy fr.
i hate delivering to them cause theyre lockers always have issues in Chicago
They ruined WF for me when they got rid of all of the good bread. That was my primary reason for going there. I'd end up grabbing cheese and dessert sometimes too. Now I go maybe once a year for flaky salt.
The yellow (Manila?) blanket on your couch looks like a block of uncooked ramen but I kinda like it
Your hair looks great, Jarvis. I’m having a hair crisis right now. The person I usually go to has been really busy with kids and hasn’t been able to see me. I went somewhere after work one day and didn’t realize it was messed up until I got home. A couple days later I went somewhere else and that person made it a little worse. So after work today I’m going somewhere I’m positive will fix me up. Moral of the story, always make your hair appointments waaaay in advance.
Oh my GOD as soon as you mentioned a song about the battle of New Orleans it triggered a sense memory. My brother was OBSESSED with that song when he was little. We listened to it so much in the car. I can hear the drums that start/end the song so clearly in my head.
jordan is already so softspoken that when he whispers its near inaudible
i fell asleep watching this and had a dream that Jordan dropped a brick wall on me
Okay why is Jordan so good at beetboxing ?!? 3:28
Have you boyz ever considered making an animated show? So many of your goofy bits would work really well animated.
Jordan continues to evolve into the golfing British uncle from every movie
just wanted to say thank you to both of you for making the podcast. I'm really fuckin depressed and your show brings me joy, I hope you both are having a good day and living good lives
Stayed up just to fall asleep to this
I've seen engagement bait chef before. One of the commentary Bros did a video on him and I remember him biting into a block of cream cheese and saying "It's so bussin" a lot.
Not me getting too into the “medication or DND character” game as a pharmacist, you guys asking what each one is for/does had my ADHD screaming to interrupt and share cause I genuinely get excited about it 😅
28:32 I was walking and drinking soda, you almost killed me
Always nice to wake up to a new Sad Boyz episode
ok the battle of new orleans song I only remember watching a Lego stop motion youtube video of it which was an absolute masterpiece
Jarvis suggesting that each of them defuse like Kami and Piccolo SENT ME 😂😂😂 That's one of the funniest things I ever heard!!!
Dr. Morris was the best teacher I've ever had, blew my mind when you mentioned him lol
A girl in my first DnD group was a pharmacy tech and all of her character names the names of drugs she saw at work lol
drew covered the wooden ball guy lmao glad to see he’s still making beautiful content!
As someone who was living on my own for the first time when the pandemic hit, IT WAS BAD. my friend’s uni (Uk) was legit barricading students in (I was in private accommodation and thankfully for me my landlord was in a diff country lol). Right before the pandemic we had strikes, so basically everyone at a uni in the Uk missed so much school.
33:51 oregon just recently passed a law to allow self serve gas however it is up to each gas station whether they want to allow it and if they do there are still certain pumps to have an attendant pump your gas.
This was a pleasantly surreal way to learn that two of my favourite CZcamsrs are together
My dude...gas stations in CA are required by law to provide air and water to a customer vehicle for free. The coin box is for show, just ask the attendant.
Oh no...
Dude I was obsessed with that Johnny Horton song when I was little. My great grandma used to make me mix tapes from her record collection and I listened to them all the time haha
The grown out taper is a strong look. 👌🏽
The fact that ubrelvy was mentioned got me. Every doctor but my neurologist struggles to say it and I've always thought it sounded like a spell or something. That must be how they treat my migraines!
Oh no that sucks so bad. I loved the Amazon fresh near me. It got rid of the worst part about grocery shopping; those insane lines where there are like 12 registers and only 2 people working. Amazon fresh became the only place I bought groceries.😢
haven't watched one of these in a while and i gotta say, jordan's hair is looking awesome. it's gotten much more grown out since I last saw :) also jarvis' hair too ofc :D
That pic of the ultrasound is so funny😭😭 I wonder why it was on the street lmaoo
1:03:15 the way my jaw dropped and then the feeling of embarrassment and disappointment washed over me
oh drew gooden talked about that silly food mispronouncer one time in his videos! the "little wooden ball" in particular I remember, and I also picked up calling blueberries "bloobs" exclusively. and nothing else. what a classic i LOVE sirchacha
I'm at the beginning of the episode and I already wanna say, I really miss so many of my work friends. It's crazy how you've spent so much time with them, but then you leave that job and now you don't really keep up with them. I think about it them often tho. And then Jarvis mentioned Lil Wayne rapping the ABCs, I think my favorite thing like that is from 'Peso' by ASAP Rocky- "Couple ABCs, bad bitch, double D's. I don't give a F, I told ya I'ma G. A.S.A.P." 😂
“different slurs, only the funny ones”😭😭😭 JORDANN
i've lived in nj my whole life and i always thought that everywhere had people to pump the gas for you and i went out of state and their gas stations were so... desolate...
39:50
"It's illegal to pump your own dragon"
I mean... it should be?
In the middle of America our gas stations are still full convenience stores. They probably got smaller in LA because they got robbed too much.
Still convenience stores at gas stations in the south east too. When I was in more central CA they were still there too tho that was like a decade ago
Even the traffic isnt as bad, there's plenty of room for people to spread out in the United States, its just getting people to lower density thats hard. Not saying that no crime happens in my city, but it doesn't feel like it happens every day.
@@Imbatmn57 it definitely just happens more as cities grow. You not only lose the sense of community, but the higher the population is, the higher the homeless population gets, especially as expansion makes rental rates higher for the same places. It's a symptom of a broken system
lamotrigine mention took me back to my teenage years when my doc thought i had bipolar 2 (it worked well for me but i wasnt bipolar i had atypical depression and adhd)
The barber thing is actually so scary, I'm sorry that happened! I understand going back though, the things I'll do for a good haircut are crazyyyyyy lmao
i used to do locs over covid and my favorite thing was to have the tv on and let them choose a movie or if they're truly trustworthy you can let them play a podcast or something. they gotta be a talker i Like to just play music lmao. and some of the guys id have my childs father around and theyd play the game or something so i didnt have go talk at all im cryin
as a hairstylist, we get it! clients jump around all the time, it's ok! go to the barber you prefer :)
The vacuum go VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
I don’t remember the video but the rage bait chef guy was in a video that drew gooden made a couple years ago and he was doing like best keto snacks and it was just a stick of butter or something
did not expect this to start with Jarvis high as hell dropping lil wayne bars
Air and water is free in CA "with gas" but every time i go in and ask they just turn on the machine no questions asked.
This is the perfect podcast to think about my feelings and other things also
Teezayteezaikai 😌 reminds me of jeelai beelai peet rat goomai candai (will not be providing context)
brought back memories 😭
I feel like I’ve heard this exact episode like 3 times in the past week, have there been reuploads?
random but jarvis look really scrumptious in this episode 😻😻😻😻😻
Both Jarvis and Jordan’s hair look good af!! Go off boys 😌💅
The tire air pump things are free around here. The gas is more expensive than nearby counties but the air is free and that's convenient as heck
there used to be a local texmex place in the town where i did my undergrad and they had "enchildadas" on the menu, i think about them often
Battle of New Orleans slaps to this day, along with North to Alaska and Sink the Bismarck
That was a good imitation of the battle of New Orleans!
