Getz, A. Farmer, J. Griffin, etc.

I've always loved the album "Dynasty" that featured this line-up. Being a guitarist, I bought the album because of Rene Thomas. I always felt like his lyrical tone and introspective style was under-appreciated in the world of jazz guitar (sort of like Ed Bickert.). It was great to get to see him play.

Dynasty is certainly one the best jazz recordings of all times.
    S. Getz never played better, a mix of lyricism and sadness, fantastic ! Louiss here, as always, holds the fort, pushing everyone to his limits; playing beautifully built solos. R. Thomas and Lubat are excellent too.
The trio was playing together for a long time when Getz discovered them in Paris and decided to "show these men to the rest of the world" (instead of a "slow death before disinterested parisians" (Getz' words)).
.Which is really an hommage, isn't it ?
On the LP's nearly all the tunes are by E. Louiss with the exception of 2.
Getz said to a French journalist : "Eddy Louiss is a genius". Indeed he was. As J De Francesco said , there is one and only one organ player whose style at the organ can't be imitated, and it is E. Louiss.
Here we have a concert with a different version of Dum Dum (written by E. Louiss).
    Thanks for posting !
I wish you should have more videos of this concert. As they are very few radio recordings (AFAIK) of this group. As one French radio host said : "Ce groupe n'a duré qu'un an, mais dieu qu'il était chouette" ! " (something like " this band lasted only one year , but , By God, how great it was", sorry for the rough translation :-)).

This is great, as a bonus to the music there's the visual beauty with those lights. Too bad not more TV directors had a little artistic vision when capturing live music. But we can't complain, many jazz greats have not even been really filmed (Charlie Parker and countless others) or just not often enough...

Certainly quite a change from the follow-up Communication '72 album recorded in November of the same year, featuring Eddy Louiss on Hammond...Sadly Louiss, Labat and Thomas couldn't get union permission to enter the US...Enter Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Airto Moreira and Tony Williams and the subsequent "Captain Marvel" album recorded in March of 72..Nobody could ever say that Getz wasn't versatile, experimental or creative!!

Just go for "Sweet Rain", Stan's 1967 album with a young, brilliant, accoustic Chick Corea. A quartet at its peak with Stan exploring in the spirit of those psychedelic times (in a jazz context!). Has been my favourite album since buying it in '67. Chris Firmin

  • @limonero65

    Maravilloso.

  • @alphonsepetitboudu6552
