    Married filing jointly. 2 jobs. 2 kids (14 and 12). Too much taxes are being taken out. Used the W-4 IRS estimator and it is saying to put a different amount on line 3 of the W-4. Normally I would put $4000 for the 2 children but the IRS site is saying to put much less than that there. Is that correct?

    I am starting a new job this month after over 4 years so I've not had to use the new W4 form since it's been rolled out. I have a primary job and I work for two other companies (remotely in other states) on an hourly PRN basis. The hours and amount of work can very quite drastically and there is not a 'set salary' for these two jobs so I'm a little more than unsure on what values to use in this estimator in these cases? Do you have any suggestions for resources in this specific situation or services that may be able to help?

    So I just got a third job and I am filling out the w4 for it. When I got my second job so I checked the box 2c (which might not have been the best option but I didn't know what to do at the time so I checked it.) Now that I have the third job and I need to calculate using the online calculator, do I need to replace the other w4s from my existing jobs with updated ones, or what should I do in this situation?

    my problem is i have two employers, and i do 1099 work. with the 1099 work, i may be able to write off a lot of expenses and itemize, so i don't think i should include my 1099 income on the w4 worksheet and try to estimate taxes for it.

    I don’t want to owe . The tax estimator doesn’t cover everything. It doesn’t ask the same questions on my 2nd or 3rd jobs as it did on my first job. Results said I would owe about 3 k. Do I need to contribute more to tax withholding?

    This is what the form says that is confusing me ….
    Complete Steps 3-4(b) on Form W-4 for only ONE of these jobs. Leave those steps blank for the other jobs. (Your withholding will be most accurate if you complete Steps 3-4(b) on the Form W-4 for the highest paying job.)

    I have a not so brief question, as I am pretty new to this and don’t want to screw things up! I’m about to start a new job at the end of the month. Unfortunately, based on the new job’s pay schedule, I have to find a way to make ends meet between checks (they are monthly). So I am working on getting a second part time job (the first mentioned will be full time). How do I need to fill out the w4 for each if I haven’t received a paycheck yet? I am single w no dependents. I will also mention that I held a job Jan to Feb of this year. If you could help me out or if we could email/call for a more detailed explanation I would really appreciate it!!

    This question doesn't have to do with the Q you answered in this Vid, but it is re: multiple jobs & step 2...
    I'm single, have 1 full time job & a part time job. Do you HAVE to select the Checkbox in Step 2, if you have income from more than 1 source (2 jobs)? Or, if there a minimum income threshold you have to pass therefore making you check the box? Wondering if I have to check it automatically based on 2 jobs, or if I ONLY have to if I make xxxx amound at Job #2. Thanks!

    • @TravisSickle
      @TravisSickle  Před 2 lety +1

      You do not need to check the box. Read step 2 (a) again. If you complete the estimator (highly recommended by the IRS and I agree with them) then you don’t need to do anything else except what the estimator says to do.

For both of these my federal taxes look OK. But my highest paying job I have it as head of household and claim my 2 kids but my company is not taking out any federal taxes . None at all and I didn’t put exempt or anything. Just the 2X 2000 dependents and head of household. Is there any reason you think they would not take out taxes for federal?
