Ambient Liveset (Home Concert 56)

- Welcome to the 56th edition of my home concert series.
Part one is a new version of a track that I first recorded with the Jupiter 8 inspired synth by Black Corporation. Today I am playing the sounds on the TAL-J-8, controlled with the Soundforce SFC-8. The Prophet 10 and another sequence from Pigments play along.
Part two starts with atmospheric pads, followed by a lot of sequences. I used pretty much all of my synths to record that track. Since I got the Kenton Midi interface for my Juno60 I can finally use it for programmed sounds!
Part three starts with a few sequences from the TAL-J-8 and I play a solo lead sound which I programmed to mimic a guitar. I use the Push3 controller to dynamically play the patch.
Part four closes the set with a 20 minutes long ambient piece in which most of the sounds are played live on the keyboards.

@@MartinStuertzer "it's complicated" 🙃 I'm into all sorts of metal subgenres, if I HAD to name some I defintely have a soft spot for progressive (earlier Opeth, Leprous, Ihsahn) but also black metal. Personally I released two symphonic/orchestral instrumental metal albums as "Nahtram" which are influenced by Opeth and Wintersun but I'm currently also working on some atmospheric black metal tracks.
@@lukasgraesslin Maybe have a listen to Zenon Label music, its progressive dark techno you might like with that background. (I do, and i started with all sorts of death metal.)

Hallo Martin. Das gefällt mir durchgehend ausserordentlich gut! Beim ersten dachte ich gleich, dass wir das doch schon hatten... dann hast Du gezeigt was aus einer vermeintlich einfachen Idee entstehen kann. Sehr harmonische Sounds, sogar besser als das "Original". Das letzte Stück ist im Genre schlicht perfekt: wunderschön. Chapeau et merci !

Hab vor kurzem Tangerine Dream in Essen Live gesehen übrigens Moogulator war als Gast auch dabei, und jetzt heute Abend mal wieder eine Wunderbare Reise von Dir, einfach ganz große Klasse. Ich hoffe das ich irgendwann schaffe Dich Live zu sehen. Bis es soweit ist freue mich schon riesig auf nexten Set von Dir .

Martin, hello! Thank you very much for your incredible music! I noticed that in the first two sets you used Bitwig, and in the 3rd and 4th sets you used Ableton.
I’m very interested in what this is connected with, and which DAW do you prefer to work in? Bitwig or Ableton? And why?
Hope you release this set as i'd love to purchase it and have the tracks on high quality wav files.. peace.

Thank you! No, all mixing is done inside the computer. I am using only a gentle compression and limiter by Fabfilter on the master.
Sublime work. Unpretentious synth work as always. Out of interest, how comes you switch between Bitwig & Live? Other than the Push, is there something Live is giving you over Bitwig? MPE on Push looks to be the main reason.
Thank you! I prepared the first parts on Bitwig and then I wanted to use the Push MPE function for the lead sound. My workflow is very much based on the Push which makes Bitwig less interesting for me.

I came across your CZcams while searching for videos of the Access Polar TI. In one of your videos It looks like your using a hardware controller at your desk to control the synthesizers. Can you tell me what controller you were using. Love The Cat.
Great set today! Enjoyed it a lot. 2nd and third tracks are on point! Do you prefer Ableton to bitwig?
Difficult question. Both have their ups and downs. If the integration with Push3 was as good as it is in Ableton I would probably use Bitwig more.
@@MartinStuertzer Thanks for your input, i know there are many controllers, wish we had a dedicated one for Bitwig. Came across this Yaeltex LIVE15 seems really neat but it's pricey! Push 3 is what I want it seems really solid.

Zwei Stücke werden in Kürze auf meinem nächsten Album veröffentlicht sein. Die kompletten home concerts sind aber nicht bei den Streaming Diensten, weil es sonst zu unübersichtlich wird.

Hi Martin, wonderful sounds as always! Quick question - when you plan a set, do you decide what key each piece will be written in as part of the overall design? Or do you just write individual pieces and then choose a play order afterwards?
The first track is usually random and then when I start the next one I decide where to move. But there is no meaning or plan behind that, I just try to avoid having the same key twice in a set to make it more interesting to listen to.

It looks like Martin is using driven by moss in the push three. I wonder if he is using Bitwig?
I used Bitwig for the first two parts and Ableton for parts 3 & 4.

I have been working on this set for three weeks, probably 10 to 20 hours total.

Die ersten beiden Stücke habe ich mit Bitwig gemacht. Mit einem Skript namens "driven by moss" lassen sich die meisten Funktionen der Push nutzen.
What happened to the black corporation synth? Did you send it back?
I only had it for testing, it is not in my studio anymore.
@@MartinStuertzer what did you think of it compared to something like the TAL or Arturia J-8 vsts with the controller?
to be honest I can't hear a difference between the hardware and the TAL-J-8. Arturia is not as good compared to the other two, but offers more features like additional LFO and some routing tricks.

@@MartinStuertzer what would you say isn’t as good about the Arturia one? I have the Arturia one but not the TAL. I was looking at a SFC-8 like you have so then I have a proper feeling polysynth rather than just a VST. Thanks for your time btw

To be honest...Only idiots buy hardware synths in order to limit themselves with drone ambient. You normally do all that with one or two soft synths.

The Sub37 needed a repair because some of the knobs stopped working. It is going to be back soon. I have one 140b and one 120b.

Martin - Great stuff here !! I assume that the Prophet 10 sounds different enough from the OB-6 to justify owning both ? I have the OB-6 and am looking at getting the OB-X8. Have you tried out the Prophet 6 ? I'm also thinking about getting the Prophet 6 Module but not sure if it sounds too close to the OB-6 to justify purchasing.
A very good question. Both synths have a different sound and I like both very much. But to be honest, U-He Repro-5 does the same job, I could not tell the two apart and I still use Repro-5 a lot. I never had the Prophet 6, so I cannot tell you something about it. I would avoid the Rev2, I found the sound not very "prophet"-like compared to the software.
