    Great videos, I've learned a lot from them! I'm on my 3rd week with Amazon. All I can say is that this is intense AF. It would definitely help if any kind of dispatch course was taken prior to jumping on board 👌. Thank you for all the videos

      I’m glad you like them, I try to make them with your time in mind and try to stay away from all the “fluff”.
      Probably my best example of dispatching myself came from this video:
      czcams.com/video/09mILrXdIh8/video.htmlsi=dJtyQv8r_Sn1pyZ1
      It wasn’t my most profitable night, but it all came together perfectly and when I think back to every one I’ve made, this one is at the top. It felt like I was able to combine everything I talk about (grade, load board, timing, spot capacity) all into one video.
      I’m glad you’re here and will try to keep making “decent” videos for you.

    Hey Todd, I saw on a previous video/comment about your high insurance rate....have you considered using a broker? I'm not saying that like I know anything...I don't. I just heard Progressive was the only place that takes new drivers but apparently not. There is a subreddit called "Are these insurance rates normal for a new owner op. Help me please" Sounds like shopping around or hiring a pro can save a lot of $.

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking Před 3 měsíci

      I agree with getting an agent/broker 100% for insurance, here is why:
      If you don’t know this about me, let me start by saying “I despise services”, EVERYTHING I have done to get my company going I did on my own. What sent me down this path was one of the first things I learned how to do was UCR, cost $37 if you do it on your own but “services” are willing to charge $100-$500 to do it for you. First time I did it, didn’t know what I was doing, completed it in 2 minutes. Now, if they’re gonna charge you $500 for that, what are they gonna do on the big things (apportioned plates, IFTA, etc)?
      Where insurance is different:
      I used my agent to get me in with Progressive in year two, once I was in I had the brilliant idea of “let’s cut out the agent and save money”, so I tried signing up with Progressive directly. I don’t know how they do it, but using my agent actually saves me $2K/year because through them, I was paying $13K/year and on my own, I was quoted $15K/year.
      I don’t like services unless the service saves me money, then I love services.
      My year one rate started out at $40K/year, things held against me were new authority AND new CDL
      Year two $13K/year
      Year three $11K/year
      I know when I started (4/22), everyone kept telling me to go with Progressive. Not sure if it has changed but at that time, Progressive was not covering new authority in California. They said they would cover new authority in every other state, just not here where I live.
      Definitely shop around, I thought I had found my dream agent only to discover a better one.
      I don’t want you to leave here thinking I did everything correctly without using a service, I messed up apportioned plates pretty well:

      Great suggestion!
      I fully admit I’ve become complacent with Motive, because I know how to use it I’ve more or less stopped looking. If I ever were to change, I’m interested in learning more about the Garmin one, I’ve heard it is a one-time purchase and there is no monthly fee. If Motive ever gets too crazy with pricing, that’s the direction I plan to go.

    Do you know what Amazon pays to rent your unused trailrs? I see they have equipment auctions but i haven't seen anyone posting about renting trailers

      It is market specific and works like an auction. I have never done it because I personally don’t feel the benefit outweighs the risk. I saw receipts from one guy who was getting $700/month for his. I just checked and currently there are none being auctioned at the moment.

    I believe you purchased your semi from pride truck sale, do you recomment them? Do they allow pre purchase inspection for their truck? They provide any warrant thats cover engine or transmition?

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking Před 3 měsíci

      I purchased it through Penske used truck sales and picked it up in Texas.
      I went to every truck dealer around Fontana, spent the night, it took me two days. What I didn’t like:
      They all claim to have the “full service history” of all their trucks which can’t be true. You’ve got a truck that has had multiple owners, it would be impossible.
      My rationale with Penske is/was, they are the only owner of that truck. When they claim to have the full service history, I believe them, this was important to me. Now, could they have rented it to someone who drove it like absolute crap? Absolutely!!! For me, it just came down to which unknown was I more comfortable with.
      Warranty - You may think I’m crazy but I opted out of this. When I started researching what and how they cover things, the overwhelming amount of reviews I found were “this company sucks, they would cover XYZ even though I had the warranty”. I don’t know if they are still around but there was a company at the time (Preimium 2000 I think) that I was 🤏🏻this close to signing up with. They told me they needed to get the full service history on the truck because they weren’t going to cover “Pre-existing” conditions. When I requested the same list so we each would have a copy to pretty much keep the other side honest, they acted like I was demanding too much and refused to provide it to me. I found this very disappointing and opted to not do business with them. My overall opinion on these warranties is quite low.
      I don’t want to come across as an authority on “ how to buy a truck”, this is the first semi truck I’ve ever owned and clearly am an amateur due to my lack of experience. I wanted a truck I could afford that left some money aside in case something major breaks. This is why I drive a 2016 Freightliner and not a 2023 Peterbilt, love those trucks, just can’t afford it (yet).

      @@STATTrucking Thank you very much for your comments and shares. The company I previously worked for was renting semi trucks from Penske, especially during the pandemic. Due to the pressure of my friend, the company had to change the oil after 70 thousand milage. they did not care penske trucks at all! I'm glad you bought a truck from Penske and were happy with it. I don't know anything about buying a truck either, so I think I'll have a pre-purchase inspection done before I buy it.

      One reason I went to Texas was supply. Once I realized these trucks are federally regulated and you could purchase a CA compliant truck outside of the state, it opened up a bunch of possibilities. Obviously, the supply of trucks is constantly changing, but in 2022, Texas had a bunch and I was able to get one with an APU for what I would have paid for one here (SoCal) without an APU. I figured, if I’m gonna be a truck driver, I have no right to complain about driving it back. I’m happy with mine, I actually think the drive back was good because it gave me a chance to try and identify a few problems.
      Sensor out
      DEF had crystallized
      Glad I was able to work out those “kinks” before I started running for Amazon because had I not realized them, they would have led to rejected loads and ultimately a bad grade.
