  • A quick look at the stamps of the legendary stamp engraver Czeslaw Slania, from his 1st stamp in 1950 to his final one in 2004. Slania engraved more than 1000 stamps for more than 30 different countries, during a career spanning more than 50 years. He is widely considered the greatest stamp engraver to practice the art.

    My brother in law once shared hotel room with Czesław Słania, when their flight to Stockholm was overbooked :) He had no idea who was he until the started to chat about what they did for living. Słania showed him his toolkit some unfinished engravings.

    I'm really enjoying every new episode I view. Czeslaw Slania, a man with great vision and power. Wow. Imagine being able to hide your friends and family's names and depictions in stamps issued across the world. I take it he was so good that he could surreptitiously include whimsical little items and totally get away with it. I don't know.. So nice to know the story behind the stamps. I have a whole new appreciation for Polish stamps now. Thanks, Ted... keep 'em rolling. This like Philately 1A for me :-) Now I'll have to follow up some more with the links and so forth you've so kindly provided. Many thanks, again!

      @@tedtalksstamps Thanks for the tip - Mr Mörck has some really nice one too! It just opens up a whole new spectrum to the hobby I haven't thought about before!! Funny enough, I was going through a pile of Polish stamps recently and thought I recognised Slania's name from somewhere..... :) It all makes sense now and I already gone through my Swedish collection to separate out Cheslaw's production as a offset, so thanks again for your brilliant content!!!

    • @tedtalksstamps
      @tedtalksstamps  Před 3 lety +3

      When talking about Slania as your favorite artist, you don't have to limit it to his stamp work either. He did much non-philatelic engraving also. Even so, anyone who thinks you're weird because your favorite artist is a stamp designer, is just putting their own ignorance on display.
