      He played more like a hired-gun (although he was in the band already) on that album more or less along the pre-programmed drums that Petrucci had written. I think the latest album (AWFTTOTW) is the first one where he was really able to showcase what he wanted. Distance over Time had some hints already though.

      @@synastikki That 1st and 2nd album with Mangini took the teeth out of Mangini playing. I wonder if he was bummed out after hearing the final mix and having all of his tricks and trinkets swept under the rug...
      Portnoy would never have let his drum parts get turned down or pushed way back like that.

    Why every mangini s drum mix in his solo perfomance is better than album

    • @pipps1158
      @pipps1158 Před 2 lety

      The minute they bring Mangini front and centre in the mix, and involve him in the song writing process, they win a Grammy.
      Plus, Ive heard so many songs with similar Chugg patterns and riffs from Petrucci and Myung (I mean there's only so many ryhtmic permutations you can create) but the underlying percussve element takes it beyond what most other metal bands can perform.

    Thank F Petrucci asked you to change to a non-ridiculous kit! That old joke of a setup with cymbals nonsensically high was laughably silly. Not to mention SO not ergonomic. I understand Mike may crave attention, but come on.
