    What was good about these old kits that I remember very well (Frog stirred up memories) was that the illustrations were often better than the content ! :o)

    Haven’t built one of these kits since I was a kid, but love watching your vids, very informative.

    Love the old models, I think the motorcycle kits have stood up best with time, I built the Airfix BSA C15 a year ago and with a little detailing it looks very convincing. It's fun scratching through the parts box to find bits; I built an Airfix Mig 15 and filled in the inlet, exhaust and cockpit with various chopped up spares. Doing these old kits also relieves you of accuracy anxiety, you can just enjoy it☺

    I love the old Tamiya 1/35 motorized tank kits.

    The revell bufallo was my first ever kit when I was 6.
    Rebought it recently as the boxed version - exactly like the one I built.

    Another excellent Monday chat start the week off. I really like Your approach to lining up the stash kits and alternating working the build outs . The blue on the Buccaneer is quite nice and the Walrus will be awesome . I do need to do an inventory on by stash to pick out some kits I can line up like you have in the video and have some fun building them out. I have acquired some new kits for future builds before they sell out. But limit acquiring the big box parts heavy kits that are rather expensive. Personally I feel more pressure to build a kit that can easily run $160.00 USD I saw that they are even making 1/18 scale aircraft. With your chats I am able to refocus on my old style of building for fun and being creative, cutting back on super detailing cockpits too. Looking forward to the next chat Cheers Bob.

    Another great video, Deon! I really enjoy the challenge of building older kits and making improvements to get a better result. My most recent project that I completed a few days ago was the 1/48 Monogram F4U-4 Corsair. That kit is infamous regarding the poor canopy fit and the terrible working parts features that made them popular for kids back in the 70s. I was able to remove the kit canopy frames and replace it with a more accurate vacuum-formed one. Deleting the "working" landing gear and building it as an in-flight model solved the other problems. I generally find that local model shows are a great place to find older kits for cheap prices. Folks are looking to clear out their stashes and bargains can be easily found!

    I build kits that I built when I was a kid.I am now in my fifties and the kits I messed up when I was a kid are now how I wanted to build them then but did not have the skill or patience.

    I’m building an old Monogram 1/72 P-36 from the ‘70’s. The kit is not bad, with some filling and sanding, but most challenging are the transparencies which don’t fit well. I’m using vacuform clear parts instead. I don’t enjoy vacuform parts.

    Many of the old kits still hold up well and can be made into very nice models
    Like the tip tank idea for the Jet-Walrus… How about a 3 engine setup with one on center and on each wing… maybe a little more unique than a standard 2 or 4 engine approach. Great building either way!

    You can have the Matchbox Twin Otter reboxed by Revell AG from Germany. Is the very same mold.

    I picked up an older Airfix kit of the 1/72 Catalina a while back. It had some badly warped wing parts. Nothing I tried would level them out, and ended up tossing the piece of dung. I've built some older kit recently from Revell, Monogram etc. And they were not too bad.

    • @deonjansen
      @deonjansen  Před měsícem

      yes i know - sometimes the warping is just too much and the kit becomes a spares collection. i havent built my catalina yet - hope its not warped

    Matchbox and Airtix had very, very different design philosophies. Matchbox were easy build, but lack the detail. Maybe Airfix had too many rivets :-)

    • @deonjansen
      @deonjansen  Před měsícem

      yes, both had good points. I like both very much though of course there were some pretty bad airfix kits. all in all i could hardly decide, but Matchbox is the nicer one to build for sure, construction wise

      @deonjansen matchbox always has a clunky look to it like an obese version of aircraft but they bettered in the later tools like the Wellington and Privateer, but the price / quality was unrivaled at the time

    • @runesvensson1244
      @runesvensson1244 Před měsícem

      @@cnfuzz Yes, Matchbox is toylike. But I had to throw out a Airfix A-20 Havoc and build the Matchbox instead, because it had better fitness, although it is clunky. I think I'll try the Privateer :-)

      @@runesvensson1244 matchbox also did the p70 nightfighter havoc which is the 1967 Revell tool , very detailed kit with figures , still have to build that one along with the mpm/special hobby one
