  • Is this Vietnamese breakfast better than the classic banh mi we all know and love?
    We headed out in Saigon Vietnam to try Bo Ne or Bánh mì chao which is kind of a deconstructed banh mi served in a sizzling plate!
    These places are super popular here in Saigon we've seen them everywhere and I have to say it was pretty delicious.
    The special cost 55K VND and the owners were extremely friendly as always in Vietnam!
    Ho Chi Minh City is ridiculous there are too many places we want to eat at and not enough time! 🇻🇳

    Cheese = Pho Mai in VNmese, actually stemmed from Fromage (French for Cheese)
    Similarly,
    VNmese "Bơ " stemmed from French "Beurre" = Butter
    VNmese "Ốp La" stemmed from French "Au plat" or On the Plate or "Bánh Mì Chảo"
    "Chảo" = Plate (hot metal plate), or wok

    Your Vietnamese pronnunciation is good! Your pronunciation of cheese was spot on. It's cool that you try to learn some Vietnamese words during the video. Well done...Yeah the ng- pronunciation at the beginning of a word can be a little bit hard to pick up. Someone commented a really clever sentence in English on one of my videos that basically produces the proper ng- Vietnamese pronunciation but I can't remember exactly what it was at the moment...right now I'm struggling with differentiating the t- versus th- sounds at the beginning of words because they sound quite similar in Vietnamese. Really friendly shop owner. That was really cool that he gave you a little peek in the back. As far as I know the salad is just seasoned in vinegar but it might have sugar as well. Which district was this in?

    • @EllisWR
      @EllisWR  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hey mate I try to pick up as much as I can from speaking to people, if we stay longer term at some point will learn properly! The Ng really does me over. I respect anybody that speaks any asian tonal language, Vietnamese imo is so difficult more so than Thai anyway.
      We have like 10 videos coming from the Tan Phu district of Saigon was a top area so much food and people were lovely!
