    I won't forget his full debut this season in the Premier League against Everton. All the emotion, energy and pressure surrounding the game from both a United and Everton perspective meant it was already risky bringing an experienced player coming from injury into the lineup, let alone an 18 year old in such a turbulent team. And he made it look easy in a position that most players only start playing in their mid twenties. I think that is the best Premier League debut I've seen.

    That match made me realize that mainoo would be wasted in a static double pivot. I think he can play the Gundouan role at City where he has a free 8 role is involved in deep build-up play and in the attacking phase around the box as his composure and decision making in those areas reminded me of how Gundo played for city.

Since he came into the team, there has been a clear direction of play... I saw Amrabat drawing players towards him a few times as well. Usually ending in a pass back and then through the lines.
    It's a very basic tactic to create a numerical advantage, but it works wonders when the opposition is just a little too eager to win the ball.

  • @oscarjenkins7505
    @oscarjenkins7505 Před měsícem +3

    Mainoo is such a good player. He has everything. Saying this, I do think Martinez and Amrabat were equally as important against City. They helped to give Mainoo the support he needed. I hope we buy Amrabat and give him a proper chance next season, and I hope that Martinez’ injury problems don’t continue as well.
    We also definitely need someone to rotate with Mainoo next season, as you said. He should not have started as many games as he has considering that it’s his first season as someone who just turned 19. I think Aleix Garcia might be the answer to that tbh, with a release clause less than £20m. Otherwise, Caqueret suits the role perfectly, but I think he might be a bit too expensive.

    We also did something important in that game, that we usually do not do enough, and that is making a free-kick whenever a player got past us to prevent overloads. It's cynical, and teams like City, Liverpool and Arsenal are masters at doing it without getting yellow cards. We did that to perfection this game. It needs to be a standard in our game.
