Hey guys, I think that a lot of you are commenting before you watch the whole video and that’s really unfortunate, so I’m going to clarify some things...
My unhappy reaction to Viki winning is not because I didn’t think she deserved to win, in fact I congratulate her multiple times on winning (14:21) and clarify that she 100% worked hard, had an amazing song, and deserved to win (15:25)
I see a lot of people commenting on my statement that Poland has an advantage saying I’m incorrect because Poland is not the biggest country in the contest, for which I explain it’s not about population or size, but about viewing figures and voracity towards the contest (15:45). This mainly effects smaller countries like Ireland, Malta, Wales, some of whom don’t even air the contest live and puts them at a clear disadvantage.
Once again I want to clarify that I 100% believe Viki deserved to win, regardless of if she was not personally who I wanted to win. I love Poland, I love Polish music (see my reaction to Roksana’s song last year where I go on a 5 minute rant about my love for Polish music). This is about sharing my personal opinion on music, and I want to make it clear that we all are allowed to have our own opinions as long as we keep it respectful.

Poland has (most likely) the highest viewing rates for jesc out of every country so nearly all of those people would vote for Poland. To add to that, the contest was held there so of course they had a lot of publicity and Viki Gabor is already kind of a star over there. I'm from France, and Polish song was my very favourite by faaar ! I think the voting system is indeed problematic, but it exists since 2017 (one year after Poland returns in JESC), and Poland did an awful score in 2017 tho, I think this argument is just irrelevant. Not to mention that, in the online vote, you have to vote for at least 2 other countries beside yours (welp, let's admit we all vote for our own country).
Here, Poland came SECOND in the juries, I just think young people in all Europe loved it and didn't just win thanks to polish votes (while, Rokxana last year, as much as I love her... had just a huge fanbase who made her win). I really don't see the problem in voting. If you look at all the Polish Eurovision entries overtime, this country doesn't do spectacularly well. Now it happened to be two years at JESC in a row when Poland has amazing, talented young people (both singers and dancers) that bring an awesome show and fans are here for it. I understand it might have been a problem if one country or another faked their votes but I've never thought someone can be mad that there are too many people voting for one country (even if it's their own) So I guess Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande should also feel bad when they're winning another VMA's or Grammys because they have too many fans voting for them?
Also if (as you said) Poland was in your top favorites, then your reaction to Viki winning is absolutely disappointing. If I wanted a bike OR a skateboard for Christmas and I happened to get a bike, I would be just as happy. I would definitely not be making a "not so impressed" face. Unless of course you really didn't have Poland in mind when it comes to top favorite songs this year. It's totally fine too.
As for the more positive notes - thank you for taking the time to review all the entries this year!

I've just watched your reaction to voting results for JESC from last year and you literally said "I'm glad Poland won, I know Polish people voted for their own country, but everyone could vote for their own country. Poland sent a good song"... I mean, ain't you being a bit unfair right now saying that this year's Polish song should not win because Poles voted for themselves. The Polish song came 2nd from jury votes which means Viki did incredibly well. If the song was bad jury wouldn't have voted for us. Plus, many people on CZcams were making videos of their Top 19/Top 5 placing Poland on the 1st place...
Poland isn't really popular among national jury and I think these were the best scores we have ever received in both JESC and adult ESC.
I'm a Pole, my boyfriend is English and we both think Viki did great. I voted for France, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Poland and Wales. Maybe the online voting system isn't the best, but people who voted they also had to vote for at least 2 other cuntires to be able to submit their votes. So even if Poles wanted to vote only for themselves they couldn't do it without voting for at least two more countires. In my opinion, the Spanish song was good, but it wasn't my personal favourite.
People are so full of hate these days. Fun is what JESC is all about. There isn't any conspiracy behind Polish's victory. Poland won because Viki's song was appreciated among both jury and people.
To everyone who is complaining about the amount of Poles who watched JESC this year. It's obvious many Poles watched it. This was the first time we hosted JESC since joing the contest. It's obvious people wanted to see the show and feel proud. I think the show itself was done brilliantly and I was very proud.

    Hi!
    1. I am from Poland.
    2. I did vote for Viki. And for The Netherlands as I love both these songs (the third vote I didn't care for so I picked that randomly).
    3. I am obsessed with Viki's song, not because I'm Polish but because it's a freakingly good song! (I presume it will be my most listened to song this year on my Spotify) and as it was a SONG contest, I think Viki's victory is well deserved.
    4. I wasn't the biggest fan of the staging but I do appreciate it and I do think it was cohesive and consistent with the song, and it's message (and the music video - extra points for not being repetetive). And I think the sign language motive was groundbreaking, innovative and oryginal. For me it was a cherry on the cake!
    5. I do believe everyone is entitled to their opinion and I can understand that not everyone has to agree (or actually agrees) with mine.
Having said all that I do not think it's fair to undermine the voting results. I don't agree with all the conspiracy theories which are simply hurtful to all the contestants.
We all played by the rules given us by the EBU.
(J)ESC has always been somehow political and whether we like it or not, that's just the way it is.
Wouldn't I like the voting system to be changed? Sure, I would and maybe we could all try to persuade the EBU to do so instead of offending innocent participants. No sarcasm intented.
Do I think it would help making the vote more fair? Yes, a bit, but on the other hand ESC forbids to vote for your own country and it still is controversial when it comes to results/political or neighbour voting.
And lastly... I've just watched your reaction to last year's results where the situation was somewhat simmilar to this year's (or even more controversial than last year's) and yet your reaction was not. Interesting.
I recommend reminding ourselves your own opinion from last year's, it may give you (and all of us for that matter) a better perspective.
    One word above it all:
    it's not about the winning!
    Cheers!

Like the Kazakh and Spanish entries personally did nothing for me as songs but those two had amazing vocals. For me when I vote/judge a JESC song I do it differently then I would for an ESC song. For JESC I think of what I would have liked when I was 9-14, and that's how i cast my votes because I'm American so I don't really have a horse in the race. And keeping in mind how my criteria is for voting my votes went to: Armenia, France, Poland, Ukraine, and North Macedonia.
Armenia because I mean she gave us Ethnobop Barbie Princess Cupcake Topper which has been how I've been trying to be from aged 5 until now. France because I've always liked bright colorful upbeat French Music (shout out to having a Francophone stepdad), Poland because it was colorful and upbeat, Ukraine because it's basically Jazz Pop and I was in jazz band from 10-14, and North Macedonia because Mila just seemed so cool.

    • @artsenal714
      @artsenal714 Před 4 lety +2

Judging a song based on what you would have liked at age 9-14 is a shitty way to judge for so many reasons.
First, what you liked when you were a kid is never going to be same of what current kids like. Second, just because a song is a ballad doesn’t mean it’s not childish and just because a song is upbeat doesn’t mean it’s not adult. Third, 9-14 is a huge and diverse age group to be labeled as one. Fourth, not all kids like the same thing not even those who are the same age. For example, some 14 year olds might still listen to Disney Channel songs, while other prefer more “mature” music. Just like adults, every child has different taste and I’m pretty sure children can also appreciate a good ballad sometimes even more adults. I personally think that polish song was more adult that Kazakhstan and Spain.

Haha are you serious? Your second favorite song of all time but not enough for win? Weird. Who's fault it is that other countries don't care about their artists? Plus Poland got second place from jury as well so it's very fair. I personally loved Albania's song the most. But I'm not mad at peoples choice and create problems...

      J. Because Superhero was probably the best studio track of the year but there were better performances like The Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Spain, North Macedonia and Armenia. And yes Poland has an advantage in the online voting and that’s not hating, it’s a fact. Still Viki won fair and square because the jury also ranked her high so that means something, however that doesn’t mean that she was the best of the night and that everyone has to agree with her victory.

Okay, but it's not only Poland that could vote for their own country. Everybody could. Poland was just better. It's also not Poland's fault that JESC was widely promoted from the moment we won last time. Maybe other countries should've put more work into it? Also, Viki wasn't really that famous or known before she was selected for this year's contest.

Viki wasn't my winner this year because I wasn't a fan of her song, but obviously I know that nothing will change the final results and so congratulations to her, however the voting system really needs to change otherwise it seems that Poland might win again next year 😂 and it's strange to me how 5 countries (Poland, Italy, Armenia, Belarus and Albania) can get the same positions this year as they got last year. Personally, I don't think the results have got anything to do with countries voting for themselves (for example, Russia has a much larger population than Poland, but they still came lower), but rather the voting in general. Saying that, just because Viki won doesn't give anyone the right to say that Hitler should come back and destroy Poland - and again even though she wasn't my winner, that's absolutely horrifying and it's an atrocity in itself that some people think they can say things like that. At the end of the day, yes, Junior Eurovision is a competition, but also, it allows many new and young talents to flourish and leave their mark on the music industry and we should all celebrate that. Perhaps Viki wasn't all of our personal winners, but we should all come together and appreciate the talent that the participants presented to us. This year was very strong in terms of music and I hope next year will be even better if the voting systems get changed for good. #sharethejoy

But... there is a but... I think they should change the voting for your own country rules, because in Poland they are extremely hyped about JESC, so if they keep that rule Poland will be winning every year!! Because the question that I ask myself is, would Poland have won if you couldn't vote for your country?? I’m from Mexico 🇲🇽, and I was so shocked and frustrated during the results. I can’t figure out what are the juries judging to give this results. I really don’t hate Poland, but they didn’t have the best song, nor the best staging, nor the best live vocals, and still got 2nd in jury voting. That is really weird. And I think something was really odd with the points from the tele voting. Armenia 45 just like Portugal!!? Like for real? That’s a joke! Italy and Australia higher than Armenia and Serbia? 😤

It was clear that in many places, instead of Victoria, she sang audio recordings, the sound was not enough even during the falcons, which was a shame when her performance on the previous day really disappointed me when she performed Arab melodies during the rehearsal, she was one of my favorite countries, but one of my favorite countries. Melanie had a real slap in the face with her strong vocals, as well as Armenia, Macedonia, and this year's top hits were not so appreciated. It's just a shame. Not to mention Malta, Serbia and Albania, they were lower than Portugal.

Idk if they’ll revert back to the original voting system, but I understand why the online voting system was put to increase the viewership, however there’s a downside at the other end of the stick when it comes to which country has the most number of viewership

There arent that many places, where we could host it though - it isnt usual for country at JESC to host in their own country, so we may just give it to other country that never hosted before.
On the other hand they could just restyle the Gliwice Arena and focus on other parts of the Poland when it comes to videos of our country (I was genuinely shocked that they focused mostly on Silesia, and didnt show higher mountains or the sea).
