Mark Serbu has a great homemade indoor shooting box that he shoots anything at almost. If I’m not mistaken, he uses grind up pieces of tire and something else to catch bullets. He also has a soft front cover for the bullets to travel thru so that when they impact the back, that they don’t splash back. It’s on his YT channel.

i did that once with a .22 lol. put a steel plate inside of a bucket inside of a basement closet when no one was home. Put an audio recorder outside by the backdoor and then went and shot the plate. I also did it without hearing pro to get an idea of what it might sound like if I had to shoot inside in a defensive situation...It was early on in my gun buying life and a .22 rifle was the best option I had at the time for home defense lol. Anyway, the shot could be clearly heard on the audio recording...sounded like a gun shot lol.

I think if you made the same setup, but as an enclosed box instead with soft front-face that you're shooting through would work better. Like the target face is a self-sealing soft layer, then the enclosure is filled with sand or something of that nature, then the AR500 plates as you have them configured at the back as the final stopping point would work great to *stop* the bullet while also catching all of the resulting fragments/dust (except for those that leave the barrel in a tiny shotgun splatter as lead scraped off of the edge of the bullet by the rifling... first-hand experience with cleaning that up).
