    Shmi wasn’t hiding anything about Anakin not having a father. What she said was quite literal. The Jedi believed in a prophecy that one day a being would be conceived through the force, born of no father that would destroy the sith and bring balance to the force. Though it hasn’t been confirmed or explained, it’s theorized that years before the events of this film, Darth Sidious(the emperor) and his master had attempted to manipulate and control the force. The force sensed this imbalance and in response created the being that was foretold within the Jedi prophecy. This being was Anakin.

    • @Syffx.
      @Syffx. Před 6 měsíci +8

      That makes sense now! I always wondered if that line was literal, or she was just saying that his father left.
      This is completely random, but I always interpreted the prophecy as saying that he would bring balance to the force as meaning he’d (help) kill al the Jedi, and make there an equal amount of Jedi and sith.

    • @clank0ta404
      @clank0ta404 Před 6 měsíci +13

      @@Syffx. Anakin’s purpose was to destroy the sith. However, his path to fulfill it was altered due to the death of Qui gon since many believe that he was the mentor that Anakin needed. Even though he wasn’t meant to destroy the Jedi, some theorize that the force realized that the Jedi had lost their way and came to the conclusion that the order needed a complete restart, possibly even aiding the sith to achieve this. Like I said, Anakin was meant to destroy the sith and restore balance, but it was never stated how he would do so.

    • @Syffx.
      @Syffx. Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@clank0ta404 I mainly got that interpretation from the part in episode 2 or 3 I think were they say that the prophecy is very old and might have been a little lost in translation (not the exact quote but something similar). Also, in a few books they mention how there has to be a balance of the sith and the Jedi for the force to be balanced (mainly in the rise of darth Vader book and into the void where since the Jedi use the light and the dark, there are no sith as the force users are already balanced)

    The end of the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Darth Maul shows the difference between Sith and Jedi very well. When the laser partitions separated Qui Gon and Maul from each other, the Jedi began to meditate, calming down, and the Sith, on the contrary, walked in a rage like a tiger in a cage, filling himself with emotions. And when Obi Wan attacked Maul after the death of his master, you can see that he was filled with rage, which took him out of balance, since this is not the way of the Jedi and he does not know how to handle it, and Darth Maul, being a Sith who has been raised inside the order since childhood, who on the contrary feeds himself with emotions, easily he was defeated and thrown into the mine, and only when Obi Wan was able to calm down and return to balance, he was able to defeat Maul

    Well, Lucas had plans from the very beginning because even for just the original trilogy, he needed to know every character's background: Where did they come from? How did they got here? So he planned out all the important story elements for the prequels whe writing the originals. Obviously the details came later, when he started working on the prequel trilogy. If you're interested, the whole process was pretty well documented for both trilogies.

Aside from him just being a silly little guy, one thing I've always appreciated but could only put into words later in life is how he's almost a foil for Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan: two calm and collected Jedi who stay cool under pressure, whereas Jar Jar usually reacts the way most normal people would - worrying and freaking out

    Actually, the slide transitions are a 1930s thing, not 70s. This is copying the look of 1930s sci-fi movie serials, such as Flash Gordon. Thus, the opening text crawl and episode numbers.
    The production story reason for the light sabers being different colors is this. Lucas decided that the red are for the Sith and blue for Jedi. They filmed Return of the Jedi with Luke wielding a blue saber against a blue sky. Whoops. You can still see this in early commercials on CZcams. They made it green instead, which is close to blue.
    Then, a certain actor in the prequels, prized to be cast, wanted to have a purple saber, Lucas let him. Then came the avalanche of various saber colors in Star Wars.

    Far as the lightsaber colors go, there’s a pretty big split in the fandom as they have changed over time in terms of meaning. So I’ll keep it pretty surface level without really getting into HOW the colors actually come about.
    Blue usually symbolizes bravery and the choice to stand first to fight
    Green is typical of Jedi who are more in tune to the force and prefer negotiation above drawing their sabers.
    Purple is one of the more rare colors, for Jedi that dance with darkness whilst still remaining loyal to the light side
    Red is obviously symbolic of hatred, anger and fear

  • @EntertainmentFan11
    @EntertainmentFan11 Před 10 měsíci +11

    Okay, there were some changes made to this film. The Podracing sequence wasn't as long as you saw. When it first came out, it was shortened a bit (most likely for pacing), but some of the bits you've seen have been restored on the DVD release of this film. Also, the bit where Anakin checks on Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, wondering if they're coming with him, that was also cut (again, for pacing, I believe), but was restored on the DVD and subsequent releases. Now, for the most major change: Yoda's look in this film. Originally, they used a puppet for the scenes that featured Yoda. Let's just say that he's supposed to be a bit younger in the Prequels (still old, but not as old as he was in the Original Trilogy), so obviously, the puppet they used for this film didn't look like he was younger, but rather, even older (like a thousand or so years older, when he's supposed to be around 800 years old in these three films). When this film was re-released in theaters in Real-D 3D, and later when it came out on Blu-ray, the puppet was replaced with a CGI model (which you'll see again in the next two films). Honestly, I think he looks really good in CGI, and it's nice that they re-used that model from Episodes II and III for this film. And of course, that is Frank Oz reprising his role. Now, regarding Jar Jar Binks, as someone in the comments mentioned, people really hated the character when the film first came out, and many of those people probably still hate him to this day, but maybe not as much after his actor, Ahmed Best, revealed that he almost committed suicide from all the hate and death threats. I don't understand the hate for the character. I love him. He gets himself in trouble, sure, but he means no harm. You can't blame him for trying not to get in trouble. He just can't help it, you know? Oh, and yes, that is Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu. Before he was an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., he was a Jedi Master. Even though he's not in this film a lot, his presence was a most welcome one. Edit: Also, Darth Maul was potrayed by stunt performer Ray Park, while he was voiced by another actor (just like how Darth Vader was portrayed in the Original Trilogy by the late David Prowse while James Earl Jones provided the iconic voice). 2nd edit: 50:19 to 50:25 - Well, I'm sure Darth Maul will NEVER be a threat again. Nope. Definitely not. (No talking about spoilers for "Solo" until Colette posts her reaction to it. Same goes for "The Clone Wars", only no spoiling events of later episodes. Only discuss the current episode.)

    The only way to see the original trilogy the way it was in the theaters is through someone who has the original DVD or earlier cd's. Star War fans my age would have both like I do. I remember seeing them all in theaters as they came out.

    This movie came out when I was 8 years old and it’s the first movie that I can remember going to see in theaters. I was fascinated by the pod racing and I thought Darth Maul was the coolest! I was him for Halloween that year and my friend was Queen Amidala in her red dress. I just went to see it in theaters for the 25th anniversary and even though I’ve rewatched it multiple times, seeing it again on the big screen brought me back to when I was that excited little girl walking out of the theaters. I had watched the originals for my entire life and it was really cool that I got to be there to witness the rebirth of Star Wars for a new generation. Glad you had fun watching it!

      I think that bit of lore was added retroactively; at the time of the movies it was somewhat arbitrary - the first green lightsaber (Luke's Lightsaber) only got it's color, because the blue saber wasn't visible against the clear blue sky of Tattooine in episode 6.

    I saw Star Wars Episode 4 in 1977 when I was a kid. I grew up with it forging culture all around me. After Episode 6, Return of the Jedi, in early 1980's, we went a looong time before getting to see that iconic "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." line on the screen. Almost 20 years. When Episode 1 came out, I saw it on opening night in a totally crowded movie theater in Edison, NJ. Everybody was totally amped to finally have another Star Wars movie to watch. Suddenly, the movie started and that line was on the screen. The entire movie theater erupted with people cheering and whistling. It was awesome.

Now there's a bunch of different colors, idk much about if they actually mean anything though. But I do know that the sith lightsabers are red because the sith "bleed" their crystals, which they use in the core of their lightsabers. They force their hatred into their crystal.

    If you want to see the original trilogy unedited you would need to get your hands on the boxed VHS slipcase with the holographic cover. That was the last unedited version of release. No newer versions exist on DVD or Blu-ray because George Lucas has made sure that only the 25th anniversary edition will be released going forward.

      Also time between Coruscant scenes and his arrival on Naboo in this movie - this is time when he killed Plagueis. He did it when they celebrated his election as counselor.

    To answer your question: George Lucas wrote the first six episodes from the begining. The issue was that he did not believe that in the 70's there was enough technology to film the Clone Wars (episode 2, the next movie that you are about to see on your next reaction). So that's why he went on to film episodes 4, 5 and 6 first, since they required less special effects when compared to the first three episodes (more war, more jedis, more lightsaber battles, etc).

    "That's Darth Vader, the cutest little angel babycakes?!" It's really touching, Colette 😊.
    Little Anakin is adorable, indeed. And your reaction illustrates exactly what the film is trying to make us feel when we see this kid: "he's so adorable, how can he be this big bad guy dressed in black?!" Everyone who watch Star Wars can say that. We are amazed, and even if we know what will become of this little boy, we attach ourselves to him. This is far from the case for all the big bads. Anakin is made to be adorable and promising at first, to show another side of the dark side icon: Darth Vader.
    This makes the character of Vader more complex than he is in the first trilogy. We don't expect him to be so nice at the beginning of the prequel, let alone to appear so young, a child! ✨✨ Quite a symbol. Which begs the question: "How can such an adorable child become a monster? How is he going to build hell out of good intentions?"

    I still say the final fight between Maul and Obi-Wan is one of the best in Star Wars lore, super intense, both sides have anger, and with that level of intensity, a real fight wouldn't last too long either.
    In the book Maul was even surprised by the fighting of the younger Jedi. Notice Maul on defense with Qui-Gon until he see's Obi trapped again, then switches to full offence and goes for the kill.

    I know it's a little late, but to answer your question, George Lucas had rough plans from the very beginning, but those plans were always changing a little bit up until being made. Such as: Vader was always a fallen Jedi, former apprentice of Obi Wan, but being Luke's father was added to his backstory during the making of Empire Strikes Back. There was always a Republic before the Empire, but the specifics weren't fleshed out until the prequels. Etc.
