I did the research. Based on their appearance, the bats appear to be Mexican free-tailed bats. Each night, they travel 30-50 miles away from their territory. In San Antonio, there is a cave called Bracken Cave about 23 miles from the AT&T Centre where Mexican free-tailed bats have made their home. So the announcer was right to assume that there is a cave near by. Oh the power of the internet. What would we do without it?

By the way, unless fecal matter is a problem, you could probably just play the game and ignore the bats because they are fast and agile and probably won't interfere in the game. Of course, many basketball players, along with being afraid of the woods and unable to swim, probably would be so frightened of the bats that they would be unable to concentrate well enough to play.
Many people see the bats leave their cave in Texas. It's especially popular in Austin where you can watch tens of thousands of bats flood out of their cave.

They come from the Congress Ave. bridge in Austin. Largest urban bat colony. Every night at dusk they fly out from under the bridge and fly south to San Antonio eating bugs along the way.
