We all see scams. Even if we don't buy into one, we all get the calls, emails, and letters. Why are there so many? Well, scammers see us all as targets, so they keep trying to get our money or Social Security number or account numbers.
And they're good at what they do. They know how to knock us off balance just long enough to take advantage. That's why we need a plan.
So if you think you've spotted a scam, what do you do? First, tell somebody. The call or email might seem urgent, but slow down.
Talk to a family member, friend, or neighbor. Tell them the story. Sometimes just saying it out loud helps. Maybe your friend got a similar message or knows someone who has. Or your story might just help your neighbor avoid that scam.
Then tell the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC sues scammers and works to shut them down. When you report a scam to the FTC, investigators use your information to build cases against scammers. Other law enforcement agencies can see the reports, too, and use them to further their own investigations.
Your story makes a difference. Every report is a piece of the puzzle that lets the FTC see the full picture of what scammers are doing and then stop them, because scammers don't scam just one person. But you could be the one person whose story tips the balance, stops someone from falling for the scam, or stops the scammer.
So tell your story. As soon as you think you see a scam, talk with someone, and then tell the FTC.

Why do you keep taking down the PPP link? Doesn't the FTC want to know that a couple is claiming they are running several businesses out of their house. In 2 days got over $20,000 each loan. Claiming transportation, restoration, janitor, trucking all with 1 employee.

Sent this also to a real veteran who is in ohio. He was hurt deeply by all this. Rick Yates mentor ohio he is with Dept of Drug Enforcement. I sent him every thing asking for help. My life will be in danger these are bad men. They stole my identity and posed me as s prostitute in the appropriate sites. Please help take these sites down and hangouts, whatsapp, etc. different types of scammers using DUO and person has no idea. This is what it has come too. Do what they want or else.
I was a fool but had to get them. Hurt people dear to me and ruined my reputation to the point of no return. My friend was hurt worse as he is a retired veteran and I have been working on this for 3 yes and this is bigger than I imagined.

Yea, reporting it doesn't really do anything. They should just do the job like real workers and put a stop to it and let the hackers take a break from hacking these scammers. Family and friends can't do anything about scammers as if telling our friends about it will put a stop to scammers.
Double Edge sword, those who are most vulnerable to getting scammed are the same people who have no idea or no capacity to report. As Scam tracker Jim Browning has pointed out anytimes, trying to inform those being scammed about the scam often harder than scamming the person in the first place.
Until the scammers annoy targets with the means to do something about it it will remain virtually unchecked, but there is some progress being made. Keep reporting!
