There’s no way the Inquisition doesn’t immediately check up on Godwin, find out what happened, and raze that place to the ground.
I would imagine that would depend on whether his absence of a report is even noticed. Don't forget that the Imperium is a massively bloated and disconnected entity. They are collapsing under the burden of their own empire and their logistics is a nightmare.
Honestly Inquisitors getting "dissapeared by accident" is not as uncommon as one might think, heck Catachan has practically made a sport out of it.
Godwin was way too arrogant. That was one of the most unnecessary deaths ever. He could have just left and been like "that was interesting, but more harmless peasant stuff."
Corruption was inevitable, the church needed to be removed.
Godwin’s failure was being too hasty and arrogant, he should have kept calm and quietly left the church so he could return with reinforcements to purge the church and it’s practitioners before it becomes heretical.
They were gonna attack him regardless, the psykers didn't actually know his intentions because he was warded they only tasted a small scent of his intentions but they assumed so regardless he was gonna be attacked
He should've fled the second the witch lashed out at him and then returned with reinforcements
My knee jerk reaction would say that the partitioners are living in borrowed time… but knowing the inquisition, the next guy could just as easily see that there was nothing there to be flustered over and “overlook” the business preceding his arrival.
How would the death of a inquisitor acolyte save them exactly him not coming back would only make them even more paranoid and suspicious
The death of an Inquisitor won't go unnoticed,as they tend to have colleagues who know where and when they go.
I would have to say these heretics are doomed.
Wait I got a very different message from this...
I got the idea that this was an Imperial agent who was so ready to prosecute that he had become blind to all else. The two people who ordered his death, Aiesha and Weram, are his allies who have realized he's beyond saving. Weram was talking to him at the beginning, so is also clearly an acolyte of the same Inquisitorial warband.
The Imperial Creed doesn't care HOW the Emperor is worshipped, as long as he is worshipped. A lot of religions take this and symbolize the Emperor as the sun, a season, or even a box with weird geometry.
So the villain in this story was Godwin, he was blind to the fact that he was ready to massacre innocent Imperial citizens on the chance that they might be heretics someday. Like he reached the cube, and it was literally just a cube. No magic, no warp, nothing.
The people being "saved" are the other agents of the warband, since Godwin is unhinged and putting them all at risk. They probably set this whole thing up with the bishop to test him.
@@hawkshot867 I can see this going both ways. The Inquisitor is definitely approaching this situation far too bull headed and it cost him. However, he is correct in the the worshipped artifact is nothing but just some mundane object *for now* and could be corrupted in the future, plus the sister is a psyker (hazy on lore if that is bad or normal).
I think the best approach to this situation would have been to not go full purge mode, keep calm and play along with the show. Afterward either speak directly with the priest in private or go back to your team and weight options. There is no clear heresy now, but definitely some things that are not best practice and leave openings for heresy the future. Lay out a plan, make some adjustments and everyone is happy and heresy free or you can deal with the heretics WITHOUT the diplomatic incident.
All in all, I agree that the inquisitor was too purge happy but the traces of heresy can be seen. Poor fool just wasn't inquisitive enough.
@@catwithsomeears2206 Sure I agree for the most part. I just don't think there actually was any signs of heresy... Like the bishop explained that the box was their symbol for the Emperor, and even by Godwin's admission it was just a normal box.
If worshipping icons/idols was against Imperial Creed I'd agree that they were heretics, but it isn't and they weren't... And one of the big points of Eisenhorn is that an over eager and over zealous puritan eager to prosecute good imperial citizens is arguably just as bad, if not worse, than a chaos cult. Like, the most heretical thing in this story was Godwin.
@@hawkshot867 I'd also say that while his death won't go unnoticed, he is still just an acolyte. the inquisition sometimes intentionally send young inquisitors like him on various missions to test if they got the right stuff to do their duty. This incident could be seen as him failing a test of patience and subtlety, or even a test of faith. With such unwavering power at their fingertips, nothing polices the inquisition more than other inquisitors. Such bloody filtering is needed to keep the ordos pure, like how the pool filtered out his unclean blood to become pure once more.
I would like to say that the Warhammer community’s ability to narrate story’s better than most of what I hear on audiobooks is the reason why I am now trying my hand at narrating stories on my other CZcams channel Rekkr Reads. Vox in the Void, has been a real inspiration for me in this area and man, I don’t think there’s
Any way I can compare with your narration skills but as a fan of Warhammer I’m gonna give it my raspy throated try. Thanks Vox
I would strongly recommend John Keeble. His ability to narrate is incredible. Especially Seige of terra. He's why I like nightlords now he did the Konrad Curze book incredibly well.
TL;DR a paranoid Inquisitor fucked around, a paranoid Inquisitor found out. As stories go, simple dish well made and served with care. Another stroke of excellence, good Sir!
Since they were willing and stupid enough to kill a member of the Inquisition, maybe he wasn't so paranoid? When the virus bombs hit, we will see who really FAFO-ed.
Surprising this fool survived the Schola.
Excellent read, as always!
Its so refreshing listeningto, or reading,40K stories that aren't long winded religiosity sermons.
You have my thanks and appreciation, i wish I could do more.
Thank you for sharing this with us all. Kudos to the writers as well.

You're doing great work. I've sent "abomination" to a friend to get them a taste of the 40k universe and they liked it. They also said your voice acting is great.
@@AngerOfTheLand nah this person likes more creepy stuff. Wrath would have been too much for her. I agree though it's an awesome story 😎
Lol it's the SISTERS who are reasonable in this one? What a twist! Truly great story and vox's narrative abilities is amazing
An excellent reading. I truly hope that there will be a part 2.
I love the indiana jones and the last crusade reference.
Another absolutely incredible reading. GW needs to hire you my dude.
Vox has a voice that I can't imagine speaking about mundane things, sort of like the old movie trailer voiceover guy in the 90s and 00s.

Haha! I'll take it. Always loved the voice over guy. Trust me, my voice ain't that special day to day!

Such an awesome channel, been hearing about it for a while and am so glad I started listening. Fantastic work!!

Very nice bgm, box! Very soothing. The story was good too.😆
I love your videos. I put my headphones on, close my eyes, and your narration takes me to another world.
The arch bishop sounds like Moss from the IT crowd
An amazing reading of this tale. However woe be onto this planet for since the acolyte was killed and they were already suspected of heresy, the Inquisition will be breathing down their necks and soon they will be purged.
This is a fun reference to the real labyrinth in the Chartres cathedral.
I am yet amazed at the telling of this story and the story itself as it seems to point to the fact that the "church" and those with power within will always do what they must to retain it...but that is just my view...he was not as smart as he thought and was out played. it is truly sad that he realized too late as many do when they face a monster.......one wonders if they bombarded it after he did not return as that would be a sure sign they were heretics...alas we may never know... another fantastic episode in the Warhammer universe and I thank you as I walk along in the journey of this newly discovered legacy.. My applause to you Vox and to the writer of this poignant story... so short yet so very very detailed and time seems much longer than it is.
I am awake. Awake in my bed. Not sure if I will sleep ever again.
Fantastic as always
I love your voice man. I hope you get to narrate a full audiobook in the future even if it isn't warhammer. If you have already done so, I would to know what it is so I could buy it. Great stuff!
So cool! Thank you!
The Inquisition is body of many individuals who make their life duty to secure the soul and lives of the Imperium, and they are tasked to face some of the horrors and nightmares of the Grim Darkness of the Future alone and without help from many, many times they succeed in saving thousands if not millions worlds, and sometimes they fail and those failure cost the souls of billions to the damnation.
And yet... they have total freedom to acquire things that make Rogue traders envious. Space Marines and even some Xeno's at there call. Even the power to Destroy a planet. Now if some group was "tasked to face some of the horrors and nightmares of the Grim Darkness of the Future alone". I'd give that to the Imperial Guard. But you do make a Valid point.
These are pure quality. I'd prefer you guys to do the 40k Audible books
Pre Ambush Indicators. Baldwin was made. Second the Bishop notes his lack of experience (Stated vulnerability). And 3rd Bishop Gave an excuse for his Body Guard not to be present. (Trap set) Very Clever of the Bishop.
Good writing!
"Only the penitent man will pass" Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade reference?
Fantastic!
Too rash, too brash, to uncontrolled and self rightious, wouldn´t have made a good Inquisitor.
AMAZING STORY... omg thats a pun. THRONE!
Those heretics will know justice soon enough
Interesting story. As far as i can tell, only the local church hierarchy was in danger because of what it was doing to the pilgrims. Since they've aranged the death of the agent, with the help of his colleagues, it's quite clear that they were deep in dangerous stuff. The Emperor's justice will make them pay, sooner or later.
I'm all for those nutty inquisition agents getting thier karma but I'd imagine that planet is screwed now!
Your narration style reminded me of Wayne June, the voice behind Darkest Dungeon games and many lovecraftian tales.
Fantastic work as always ❤️
I think you shoulda given main guy a Scottish accent, to make that Indy reference even better 😁😁
Yes!
What fun!!!! :D ❤
If the planet has no inherent greater value to the Imperium, there's a good chance that Godwin's fate will affect the chance of an invasion or Exterminatus in the future.
Another 10/10 video
and the world did scream as it burned
I get the feeling that the inquisition will not take kindly to this. Who knows, the place might go full on Vraks soon enough.
Awesome
Hold up...psykery amidst sisters? Utter heresy!
Well well well, time to send the Imperial assassins.

Just curious… how would I submit a story of my own to this channel? Asking for a friend.
This godwin isn't the same godwyn from eisenhorn series right
what they did yo him was cruel, but i don't know if i can blame them: in this world of religious insanity where every suspicion can get you killed, sometimes you have to kill first
Wow.... I thought inquisitors had an entourage for cases like this... Or at least way better intell 🤓
he is just an acolyte, meaning a young inquisitor. They tend to have a high attrition rate to keep the ordos from being filled with schmucks
Anyone know the songs used in the video?
😭
I loved this..but i am soooooo confused....what happened? Is there going to be a part2... Who is the pysker? Aren't the "sister"...sisters of battle? Do they have pyskers? They just killed an inqusitor... aren't they screwed..? Why attack Godwin pysically...worst he would have don't is penalize the Church or the bishop.. won't they be a bigger purge of the planet now!!! :( any one Pls explain!!
No, they are not screwed, because the Ecclesiarchy is a *powerful* institution within the Imperium. The Ecclesiarchial representatives on the planet will close ranks, and can easily offer a convincing cover story for what happened to Interrogator Godwin.
Remember that the Interrogator went into the cathedral alone, and out of vox contact with his retinue. It wouldn't be the first time a foolhardy Inquisitor (or Inquisitor-in-training) met a tragic and untimely demise in an ancient aedifice of the Imperium. Old buildings and catacombs can be unstable, even at the best of times, you know. The Emperor protects, but no amount of armour of contempt can protect a man from several thousand tons of crumbling masonry. Or a fall into a bottomless pit.
And Inquisitors _have_ gone rogue before. Who outside of that Cathedral could refute the narrative that Godwin was lacking in faith, and was struck down by the God-Emperor for his apostasy upon coming face to face with a holy relic of one of the Emperor's saints?
Exterminatus incoming :)
Plus, this would be a great setting for a long story
Lovecraft had "profane geometry"
I am new here. Was that it or a missing something? 😒
Most of the stuff they do here are self contained Short stories. But some are longer and released in parts czcams.com/video/Gy--UhuXPfM/video.html this is the first one I listened to and it got me totally hooked on this channel. All the gods are dead was wild too.
I didn't understand the ending. At all. Frankly it made no sense.
Gotta open your third eye with scopolamine to understand the Sacred Geometry.
This is my interpretation:
An inquisitorial acolyte waits hours to see a ritual firsthand, by the time he gets inside his mind is made up and no amount of proof, or lack of evidence would dissuade his conviction, hence why he took the box of bones from the shine.
Recognizing that he intends to call everyone present heretics, dispite having no real proof, Aiesha and Weram (also Inquisitorial acolytes) feed Godwin to the crowd in the belief that one death now is better than the countless later.
@@wReid-ts8bc **Arrives with chainsword revving** "Not vague enough. I'm here to chop up some Tzeentchian nerds."
I think it's left up to the listener a bit. The author's intent may be that Godwin, so eager to find corruption everywhere, became corrupted himself - and was purified in the liquid after death. Or... this happens all the time, and today, he was the sacrifice to the temple!
but im a noob to WH so other comments certainly have much better ideas :)
I get that it’s part of the lore, but calling the Imperial faith a “cult” is a bit of a misnomer. It’s more of a religion rather than a cult. Doesn’t fit the definition of a cult.
In the height of Stalin's "Godless campaign" it was widely propagated that all faiths, the Eastern Orthodoxy in particular (because of their relative power in Russia) were merely "cults". And in an effort to prove the Soviet point, they drug their native faith down to the same level as any and all other faiths including paganism. Doing this ultimately bent the greatest faith within the Russian Empire towards the will of their self-conceived "proletariat" that was the USSR, but to and including driving the common people towards war in WW2.
Its called the Imperial Cult in multiple books from black library though. Also is called the imperial faith too, so its either or. Take it up with GW writers lol.
I think you could make a point about it being a bunch of local cults following rather loose guidelines from the official church. Since there are some rather exotic versions of imperial believe that are canon seen as true believers of the emperor, be it the Cult of Sacrifice on Krieg or the "orthodox" teachings on shrine worlds or even the Allfather religion on Fenris
thats because all religions start out as cults and a cult is nothing more than a small gathering of people who belive in the same religous ideology. based on this, the imperial relgion started out as a cult and indeed it was a cult before it became the only acceptable religion in the imperium. what their getting wrong is denomination which is probably a word that dosent exist in high or low gothic.
@@ryanf4106 no, not all religions start as cults, there are, as I recall, six key identifiers of a cult. I don’t remember all of them, but key ones are: secret worship rites that nonbelievers are not allowed to see, a charismatic leader whose preaching can change on a whim and is expected to be followed no matter what, and the separation of families from nonbelieving family members. The Imperial cult, so-called, doesn’t fit this definition, that was my point.
It’s more along the lines of the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages with its charge in rooting out heresy. Compare that to an actual cult, like Jonestown or the weird alien ones.
