  • Laodikeyaa is a city built on a high hill in the middle of the Valley of Lykos (Çöksu), where there are villages such as Eskihisar, Goncalı and Bozburun, which is connected to Denizli. Due to this geopolitical position, it has been important and valued both commercially and politically throughout history. During the Hellenistic period, Caria and Lydia were located in the state borders called Phrygia during the Roman period.
    1. Where is Laodikya?
The ancient city of Laodikya is located 6 km north of Denizli province. On the Denizli - Afyonkarahisar highway, the ancient city of Laodikya is reached by continuing to the north at the intersection where sales stores belonging to textile factories are located.
In the west and southwest of the ancient city, Asopos (Gümüşçay-Goncalı) Creek, Kapross (Major) in the southeast, and Lykos (Çöksu) creek in the northeast. Since these do not have quality water resources, the city has always been in need of clean water and has provided this need from the ancient cities established on the mountain skirts in the immediate vicinity. In the cities such as Colossea and Attuda, located on the Honaz Mountain and Babadağ skirts, there are clean and fresh water resources from the melted snow waters, while opposite the city there are hot water resources with an average temperature of 35 ° C in the city of Hierapolis on the skirts of Çal Mountain.
Laodicia, which is located on a high hill in the middle of these cities, has experienced clean and fresh water shortage throughout history. For this reason, water cisterns and installation lines made of cooked soil were built at many points of the city. Today, it has been discovered that these water storage and distribution systems are covered with excessive lime, calcium, magnesium and sulfur layers on those that can be unearthed.
The mountains around the city are Salbacos - Babadağ with a height of 2308 m and is Cadmus - Honaz Mountain with the highest altitude of the Aegean region with a height of 2571 m and Çökelez Mountain with a height of 1840 m. There are ancient settlements at the foot of these mountains. Attouda and trapezopolis on Babadağ, Honaz Mountain's skirts are the ancient city of Colossea, Hierapolis Pamukkale on the skirts of Mountlelez Mountain and Tripolis ancient cities.
    2. Importance of Laodikya
When compared with other ancient cities in our country, two elements that make Laodikia valuable and important are encountered. The first is the fact that the textile industry can be maintained from the Late Chalcolithic Age to the Present from the 5500s to the present day. The weaving industry has a 7500 -year history in Denizli, known as the textile capital of Turkey.
According to the Roman writers; Together with Laodikya, it is known that Hierapolis in Pamukkale, Tripolis in Buldan, Attuda in Hisarköy, Colosea in Honaz and other ancient cities in the surrounding area and it is known that very soft black wool was obtained from these black sheep.
Vitruvius, ancient writer, attributed the soft of the wool of the sheep to the rotten scented water of the area where the sheep drank. As a result of the spinning and touching of these wools, it is stated by the authors of ancient writers that soft raven colored fabrics were produced and marketed to the world. In Laodikya, the tunic clothes called “trimita öz from these fabrics are woven and presented to the Roman market. Ancient writers, especially Strabon, praise the clothing. Because of this outfit, which has become a world brand of time, the name of the city was called “trimitaria among the people. The most beautiful textile products of the ancient period have woven in the Lykos (Çürüksu) Valley and thus Laodikya gained a considerable dey.
Another thing that makes Laodikya important is that the name of the city is mentioned in Kitâb-ı Mukaddes. The last part of the Bible, written by the Bible writer John, is that one of the letters that Jesus Christ addressed the seven churches of Asia is addressing the Christian community in Laodikia. In this respect, the ancient city of Laodikya is important in terms of being one of the first centers in which Christian communities are described and is one of the holy visits today.
In addition, the city Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD) and the Emperor Commodus (180-192 AD) were exempted from the tax by taking the title of “temple protector” twice. Considering all these factors together, it can be said that Laodicia has an important and special position among other ancient cities.

Beğenmenize sevindim. Pamukkale de pek fazla güzel bir yer yok. Ama Karahayıt a giderseniz Karahayıt girişinde kalmak için çok güzel yerler var. Travertenlere 4 km uzaklıkta. Karahayıt on içerisinde Kırmızı Su denen şigalınsular var. Ama içi neredeyse pansiyonlarda dolu.
