    Many people have knock the Trax for having FWD only. Most AWD vehicles require all four tires to be replaced when one tire is damaged beyond repair. It has to do with the tire diameters and the differential system in AWD cars. A new tire has a larger diameter than the tires with higher mileage. That is an added cost to think about. I currently have an AWD Subaru Forester and I don't feel like I am losing much by going to a FWD vehicle here in NC. It hasn't snowed enough to cover the roads here in several years. I think its actually easier to drive in snow country with FWD because they have the equipment to keep the roads clear.

  • @ganthc
    @ganthc Před 5 měsíci +4

    Nice review. I subscribed. I will say that the person that got 42mpg was probably going lower speeds. I have a Kia Niro hybrid, and I get 46mpg on the hwy when I am driving the speed limit 65-70mph. However, when I am on Texas roads that go to 80, it drops to closer to 40, so I can imagine that a driver that is just setting cruise at 65mph and riding in the right lane could get 42mpg. I had a Chevy Sonic back in the day and I got 42mpg on that little engine when I was doing lower speed highway driving. Also, they might have been using premium fuel for the turbocharged engine.
    My complaints for the Trax is that they didn't put an armrest in the backseat with cupholders, and that they aren't producing enough to meet demand, haha.

      I mentioned in a different post, but take a small turbo and go 75-85 and you aren't going to do much better than cars with larger engines. But drop it down to 65 and the small turbo will blow away the 'larger' engines by quite a bit. At slower speeds/lower rpms, the turbo is less likely to be needed, the turbo spinning up is what kills mileage.@@Allcarnews

    Great video! I did want to make a quick correction though (unless I misunderstood you in the video);
    The instrument panel screen can be customized. If you press down on the scroll wheel on the right side of the steering wheel for a second and release, a menu will open on the screen to change it. There are multiple gauges and you can even move some of the gauges from the infotainment system over to the instrument panel.
    I do agree that the MPG could be better. I did manage to get 42.1mpg on a 4 hour round trip. Even when I drive it back and forth to work, I average around 27, even in traffic, and I don't drive particularly efficiently. Good, but could be better, I think.
    Overall though, I do enjoy mine. I got the Activ trim with most of the options. It cost a little over 28k, but I think it was worth it.
    On a side note, I thought it was funny that you were saying you had to get used to the brakes. I was the opposite, the brakes feel great to me, but the gas pedal's kinda tricky at lower speeds. There's a bit of delay to the power you get (Because the turbo maybe?) so sometimes you push down to go, and it doesn't go as much as you expect, so you press a little further, and it catches up and get the power all at once so you kinda lurch a little. It's not too bad, but it does take some getting used to.

    Actually, I prefer leatherette over real leather which I have in both my Chrysler 300c and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both vehicles have beautiful leather, but I was looking at a new Grand Cherokee Limited with a Leatherette interior which looked equal if not better to my Grand Cherokee Overland. I like the new Trax, but my neighbor has problems with his including power windows and the Air Conditioning. Apparently, parts are on back order. I do like the simplicity of the car, I am tired of all the electronic nonsense that isn't necessary in most vehicles.

    Yes, I agree, the highway mileage could be better, but at the speed you're traveling, I'd say drag is probably creating more work in the engine to maintain your speed. That said, at similar speeds in hilly terrain my Maverick w/the 2.0L turbo pulls out 34 mpg. However, were the Trax will more likely excel in my commute conditions vs. the 22.8-ish I'm seeing in the Maverick.

      If I drove at 55 for an entire roadtrip I, and most of the driving population, would go insane. That’s simply not realistic not to mention dangerous on highways with 65MPH speed limits where 90% of drivers are going over 70-80MPH.

    • @laranaarana
      @laranaarana Před 4 měsíci

      @@Allcarnews That is so true. I drive this vehicle on the street at the speed limit (between 35 to 40 mph), starting from a stop like a 90 year old driver and so on, and I was able to get 28 to 30 mpg on it, but like you say, with the speed limits on the freeway being a lot higher that it was in the 70s and 80s, it is dangerous to drive at 55 mph.

  • @MikeD1101a
    @MikeD1101a Před 6 měsíci

    Low speed highway driving gets you above 40 in this. Turbo engines often amplify driving habits. For example, take a car rated at 30mph highway that is a non-turbo, and take one that is a turbo rated for the same. Drive both at the speed limit or below (baby the car) and the Turbo model will EXCEED the epa rating by a greater margine. However, the reverse is true. Take both cars and drive them more aggressively or at higher/faster highway speeds, and the non-turbo will perform better.
    When comparing EPA numbers...if you drive a bit slower (closer to the speed limit) the Turbo model will be better. Have a heavy foot or like going 75mph or more....the Turbo will NOT be your friend in terms of mileage.
    The "Smaller engines aren't as efficient as bigger ones" or "the engine needs to be bigger because the small engine has to work too hard" argument sounds good but isn't totally true. Yes, again, if you have that heavy food or like to drive fast the bigger engine will be better. But if you want to maximize mileage, the smaller turbo will be better in most cases than the larger engine but you CAN'T be driving 75-80mph or higher on the highway.

    We need a lot more vehicles in this price range bad and it is the main reason the Ford Maverick sells so well. I was a hardcore GM guy until 2005, but after that the quality was terrible and I went to Toyota. All the reviews on GM cars and SUV's were very bad for a long time. I will wait and see how reliable they are once they get into the 4th year and near 100k miles. GM should have put a dual injection system in them like Toyota to stop the carbon build up problems. Ford is following Toyotas lead because they saw the D4S system solved the carboning problems. Every brand should have a similar system. I am waiting for Toyotas Maverick competitor to arrive before I buy again. Right now still driving my 2003 GMC Sierra runs great, but will need an engine in the near future and a 2020 Toyota Camry SE which has been flawless for 4 years now. Drop it down to 60-65 and were would get (sometimes exceed) 40mpg. Small engines with turbos, when driven at higher speeds, often will do WORSE than larger non-turbo engines.
