    An impressive showing! I didn't expect Elden Ring to run without the disappearing characters and I certainly didn't expect it to hold 30 fps in Halo Infinite! What's even more surprising is that you found one for so little.

    I remember I had the Gigabyte Windforce variant of the R7 260X. It was a nice and cool GPU, served me good for about 2,5 years before I switched to an EVGA GTX 1070 SC not even a month after it launched and that was a massive upgrade in every possible way. That 1070 unfortunately died on me back in late March, got myself a used Zotac RTX 3080 AMP Holo and I'm really liking it.
    Seeing this video, it's like going down the memory lane considering how the R7 260X manages to hold even 9 years later. It managed to surprise me real well with some games back then compared to my friends then GTX 660 Ti.

      Which should not be the case. 260X should be slower than 7850/460 whereas 560 is faster than 7870.

  • @aftertheelectrike1847

    I never expected this card to perform this well! I had one paired with a Core i7-930, and they were actually quite well matched. It doesn't enjoy playing DiRT Rally (original) at 1680x1050 Medium or High very much, and so I upgraded to a GTX 1060. Glad to see this card still kicking butt today, even if it didn't meet my requirements in 2020.

    I mean, Radeon cards naming itself is already confusing between 2010-2018.
    For example, they planned RX 5800 5800XT 5900, and such. But never see light of the day.
    And then RX 5500 actually better than RX 6500, same thing with RX 5500XT better than 6500XT. Like how's that even possible a newer card perform worse than its predecessor.

    This video made my day. A well made video on many new games running on this fine wine card. 2gb r7 260x is about USD 50 here. I noticed 3 games where the gpu temperature runs below 70C. Might be a bottleneck other than gpu (maybe gpu memory? ). Just a taught, since the price is on the budget side, why don't try to sqeeze every single drop of power out of it? I see the last two games are overclocked. Anyways, Keep up with the good videos.

    Interestingly enough, the HD7790 (260X) is the world's first GPU to natively support DirectX 12 and happens to be the second most powerful GPU to feature 1GB of vRAM (only behind the HD7850 and slightly ahead of the 750Ti).

    Elden Ring DX12 requirements are a joke.
    The game by default wants DX12 Feature Level 12_0. But it's just a BS spec check. There is a mod out there that bypasses this check and the game actually runs just fine on DX12 Feature Level 11_0. So this means Maxwell v1 (GTX 750), Kepler and possibly even Fermi. Also GCN 1 GPUs, given those are DX12 Feature Level 11_1.

      @jasonandrews7355 Před 2 lety

      @@theburger_king it's the exact same card. A 580 is literally just a 480 with an OC. If you compared two cards with the same frame buffer size and the same core and memory speeds, you'd get the exact same performance.

      @@theburger_king lol, I guess so! The only real thing to bear in mind with those cards is that the 4GB cards have slower memory than the 8GB ones (7GHz vs 8GHz.) Not a huge deal, but you'll often see maybe 5% or so lower performance for the 4GB cards, even when you're not VRAM limited.

    I used a R series card until recently and for the games I play it was actually fine, mostly indie or less demanding titles. Mine had a black screen issue, though. I never could fix it and after some research it turned out to be a driver issue that AMD never solved, apparently. Decent cards still, better than you'd think.

    I have the 1gb version on a PC with i3 7100 and 8gb ram
    Fh4 plays very well (almost 60fps) at low settings 1080p, but Fh5 with low settings drops to 25-30fps
    So I use 720p with TAA on and I get 40+fps, little blurry but 40fps are much better than 30fps
    Do you thing that is a big problem the 1gb of RAM?
    You said something about 3rd part drivers, do I have to search, worth it?

    • @IcebergTech
      @IcebergTech  Před 2 lety +1

      Re: VRAM
      Some games react badly to low VRAM amounts. Either they load textures into RAM or page file (COD Warzone is a prime example of this just looking awful), some don’t allow you to make settings changes (RDR2 comes to mind). I wouldn’t upgrade a 1GB to a 2GB of the same card, but people shopping for a 260x will have a slightly better time with the 2GB version.

    i was able to reaserch that both dell and asus used higher density gddr5 chips with oland gpu's and both oland and bonaire have the same memory bus, and atombios vram config version
    so i am 90% sure that you just need to transplant memory config table from asus r7 240 4gb gddr5 to a bios from your 260x and get 4 8gigabit memory chips and swap those mad science style
